In Mourning release ‘Yields of Sand’ official lyric video

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 3:17 PM (PST)

Garden of Storms is sure to be one of the finest offerings of 2019. Let’s just say I have been anticipating it a lot more than releases by way bigger bands. IN MOURNING are one of my favorite metal bands operating currently, so talented and able to squeeze real emotion and innovation out of some familiar forms. They just write tremendously cohesive albums and songs and have never disappointed. Loving the new tune ‘Yields of Sand’ which charms and challenges with emotional battle filled allegory and paints vivid pictures of reflections over music that showcases proggy, death and super intricate melodic elements; many of the aspects of the group that fans enjoy.

Press release for the new album follows:

Sweden’s melodic, progressive death/doom metal masters IN MOURNING, will release a new studio album titled “Garden Of Storms” on October 4th worldwide via Agonia Records. Shortly following the album’s release, the band will embark on a European tour with Omnium Gatherum.

Hailed by many as the heir to Opeth’s melodeath throne, IN MOURNING was formed in the Swedish woods in the year 2000. Since then, the band has evolved, striving to refine its sound to what it is today. Musically, the group blends a broad spectrum of influences into a foundation of melodic death metal. Thrusting from doomy metal-riffs, blasting drumbeats and deep growling vocals, to calm breezes of clean flowing melodies and harmonies.

“Garden Of Storms” features seven new tracks replete with artwork from Kristian Wåhlin (Bathory, At The Gates, King Diamond).

Cattle Decap remind us on The Anthropocene Extinction that we might never get to make another end of century list if we keep up the bullshit.

I recently perused The Guardian’s inconsistent and often absurd best 100 albums of the 21st Century List. While I was shocked and pleased to see PJ Harvey, Joanna Newsome and especially mighty Deftones included relatively high up and while I do love Amy Winehouse, there was some really silly shit on there as well. Really? We are still doing the kiss Kanye’s ass thing? You guys put the album with “All of The Lights” on it in the top 5? A song that praises MJ and calls for forgiveness for “misunderstood” domestic abusers who just need to be shown Rihanna’s body for the rest of their life and who jealously once they get out of jail beat up the lover of the woman the character beat up first in the song? Can we just not? Hey, redemption is great when and if it is actually deserved in life, but Ye as that character sounds like an asshole still in that song and very self-centering…and I am 100 percent certain every Clutch album released in the 21st Century is better than the majority of their list. Shit, my fucking friends bands have made better albums than a lot of that list. Not to mention we are talking about the ENTIRE world of culture and all we can come up with is Kanye and LCD Soundsystem yet again like every shitty homogeneous festival headlining package of the last decade plus? Barf.

Anyway, to each their own but…I was kind of planning on a semi-“best of” list of the last 20 years as I hate how metal and punk often are thrown to the trash heap on these lists. Instead of that however, as taste is at times subjective, I wanted to do a piece on 10 specifically punk and metal or underground albums I think deserved more love which were all fucking excellent and made between 2000-present. All of these babies certainly deserve as many fans as, say, friggin’ United Abominations, And Justice For None or Death Magnetic or whatever the heck. Here are my OWN personal picks BELOW.I am not saying these are like the best of all albums post 00′ but that they deserve revisiting and way more popularity. What are yours?

Lo-Pan release mind bending new video for ‘Savage Heart’

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 12:18 PM (PST)

Lo-Pan return with a staggeringly cool new music video for their song “Savage Heart.” This trippy and creative clip will make even straight edge kids feel like they swam underwater to the Moon. Into it. Created by collage artist Somsara Rielly using old school stop-motion animation, it is one of the more refreshing videos I have seen in 2019.

Order new album Subtle today! The album is available on LP with a sleeve designed by Eric Palmerlee, and as always for Aqualamb releases, as a 100 page art book/digital download package. RIYL Torche, Nebula, ASG.

Weekly War Drums: LUNA13, Hate Eternal, Hour Of Penance news items.

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 9:58 AM (PST)

Welcome to a fresh week of metal news. I am gonna endeavor to give you some cool options other than the very underwhelming new Tool record (seriously, THAT took over a decade? Literally mind boggled at how by the motions it seemed compared to anything pre-10,000 days) which is also overshadowed by the fact that MJK has been defensively sus for awhile and even if they are ‘legal’ you don’t need to allegedly use crew to separate young women from boyfriends, abuse power dynamics and then give a terrible response about it that helps victim blame culture grow. Also, Joe Rogan soft hands the fash. Periodt. Y’all don’t have to agree with me but all this shit ended my support of a band I have enjoyed since the early 90’s and have seen live a half dozen times. Like sick shows and tours you chuds would be jealous of. The fanbase also praise chakra research and Alex Grey and enlightenment and shit on paper but meanwhile now all sound like god damn Alex Jones contrarian fucking morons bullying people. No. Done. Fake jock wading pool goth rock fan base can bug off and go circle j++k a calculator. If you can’t answer for an allegation like a grown man and instead sound pressed and like can barely be bothered or how dare anyone question you, that hurts people and also will make plenty of survivors who maybe formerly supported you wary.

I’m really enjoying the fucknuts mad hatter industrial black metal marriage of sounds on the excellent Wicked Gods by dark sound practitioners Luna13 from Los Angeles. It’s a new offering backed by Cleopatra. The sinister crawl of “Serpent” is severe and hypnotic, perfect harsh dirge to make you wretch and clutch at the sky with hate while “Death Box” has dark poetry and stomping manic moments OTEP fans could love. The torn throat vocals and black metal parts remind me of glorious cross-over moments of yesteryear when bands like BILE and Skrew or Wax Trax acts got into really pushing the range of genre malleability, while “Toxic Black” has a very cool creepy almost hip hop intro that then becomes an anthemic Nu-industrial/blackened hybrid leering over a radioactive wasteland of souls. I guess this band is known for an over the top theatrical live show and they seem pretty damn cool, so I have decided to (sa)stan. I am glad to know there are still industrial influenced West Coast acts like this band, Patriarchy or 3Teeth who are willing to give fans more than just a downcast shrug and a wrinkled t shirt for their live show. Anyway, I am really digging this album and so should you.

In impossibly bad ass death metal news, HATE ETERNAL’s Erik Rutan has shared a guitar play-through video for the track “All Hope Destroyed.” The song is taken from the band’s 2018 release, Upon Desolate Sands. The video can be found at THIS LOCATION and if you can play along to anything by these titans you are a better musician than I am, hahaha.

Speaking about the clip, Rutan comments; “This has been a long time coming, and something many people have asked me about me for years. I’ve always wanted to do a guitar play through. The time has arrived and I’m super excited about it! I could not think of a better song off our new album to release a play through for than ‘All Hope Destroyed.’ It showcases some of my different styles, techniques and approaches that I use as a rhythm and lead guitarist. I hope everyone enjoys it. Cheers!”

Lauded Italian death metallers HOUR OF PENANCE, reveal the first single “Flames Of Merciless Gods”, from their upcoming studio album “Misotheism”, due out on October 25th via Agonia Records. The song is available in the form of a lyric video created by Stefano Mastronicola, below. How about that merciless intro?

The band commented on the new single: “Flames of Merciless Gods” is a song about a new empire built on the illuministic values of reason and equality, who wages war against the wealthy ones hidden in their ivory towers, worshipping their only god: Money. They are the ‘bastard race’, because they have no fatherland and no motherland: their loyalty stands to no one but themselves. Their way of life is a blasphemy to everyone who is exploited by the inequalities created by their greed and is starving because of that. They are so afraid to atone for their crimes that they choose to commit mass suicide rather than face justice”.

New album alert! The Agonist are back… faster, harder, and darker than ever. Their new album Orphans is a thesis in evolution: After 5 years, 2 albums and countless international gigs (with the current lineup), the band have gelled into a paragon of extreme music. In this spectacularly dark work of art, The Agonist combine the melodic death you know and love with an array of other elements (including groovy prog metal and metalcore) that will keep you guessing all the way to the end. Each component shines: In addition to Danny Marino’s multilayered guitar parts, expect pulsing bass lines, machine-gun drums, harmonic clean vocals, and even vocalist Vicky Psarakis singing in Greek. This album is sure to please longtime fans as well as pull in new ones.

And speaking of Vicky Psarakis, this week we had the opportunity to speak with her about Orphans, The Agonist’s upcoming tour with Jinjer, and more.

On Black Friday 2019 (November 29th), Cattle Decapitation will release their long-awaited 9th studio album, Death Atlas, via Metal Blade Records. It feels weird to mention Black Friday and consumer capitalism in conjunction with a band who have used their platform more and more to rage against plastic in our oceans and the impending environmental catastrophe, but here we are. Hear the very relatable first single, “One Day Closer to the End of the World” below and also visit: metalblade.com/cattledecapitation – where Death Atlas can also be pre-ordered. The song continues to show the band ever-refining their death metal drive into something unique and in the larger scheme of where they came from initially, pretty monumental.

PSYCROPTIC will hit the road in North America alongside Revocation, Voivod, Skeletal Remains and Conjurer starting next weekend (full dates below). The eclectic bill kicks off on September 12 and runs for a full month.
PSYCROPTIC tour dates.

Ahead of the journey, the ferociously skilled band have revealed a new video for the neck injury conducive new whiplashtastic banger “We Were The Keepers” from As The Kingdom Drowns. Check it at Metal Injection HERE.

Of the video, drummer Dave Haley comments:
“We took a few days out on our recent Australian tour to shoot a couple of film clips – the first one being ‘We were the Keepers’. Our longtime friend and collaborator Wilson Bambrick handled everything behind the camera, and things turned out great. We wanted the clip to be an extension of our live show, and he did very well at capturing that.”

Sabaton in car crash in Tunisia

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 6:04 PM (PST)

Epic historical metallers Sabaton are used to the clashing of steel as one of the most larger than life and important power metal bands in the world, but that doesn’t mean the band was keen to be in a scary car wreck. The band shared a message and pictures HERE and are lucky to be alive. We wish them all the best in their recovery. Maybe help the dudes out if ya can and grab more copies of The Great War, ok metal fam?

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES recently wrapped a successful run of international summer festival appearances and will continue to tour in support of their highly acclaimed album To Drink From The Night Itself (Century Media Records, 2018). The band is set to tour across North America in an All-Swedish package with Amon Amarth, labelmates Arch Enemy and Grand Magus, before heading out on another European tour, this time as headliners with Nifelheim and labelmates Deserted Fear as support.

“Finally it is time for us to return to Europe for a real headline run! We have been looking forward to this for a while…It is always so special playing in front of your own crowd. We can’t wait for these special shows. We also have the privilege to share the tour with our Swedish metal brothers Nifelheim. We have played a few select shows in Sweden together before and it is always a blast. This will be the one tour you don’t want to miss this winter. We are all very fired up! Along for the ride is also German death metal warriors Deserted Fear. Prepare for a night of classic metal mayhem in your hometown! See you there,” states AT THE GATES frontman Tomas Lindberg about the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Big news today on the murky death metal front as VASTUM‘s new set of deranged arrangements is announced! The first single ‘Reveries in Autophagia’ marches in boldly with not a moment’s hesitation from the get go, lots of Morbid Angel-drenched riffery on this one. Even by the two minute mark on first listen this shit makes a lot of other metal songs this year sound quaint and frankly mouse-like in contrast.

Havok announces US headlining tour with Ringworm and Mobile Deathcamp

Posted by longhairedpoet on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 5:19 PM (PST)

Colorado thrashers Havok are preparing to head out on a headlining US tour with Ringworm and Mobile Deathcamp.

The band will be hitting the road this October for the West coast tour starting October 15th in Colorado Springs and wrapping on October 23rd in Grand Junction.

Says Havok frontman David Sanchez about the tour: “We’re pumped to hit the road with two great live bands and hit some roads less traveled in the process. We don’t often make it to many of these cities, so get out to a show because it may be a while until we roll through your neck of the woods again!”

Havok will be touring in support of their most recent full-length album Conformicide, which was produced, engineered and mixed by Steve Evetts (Sepultra, The Dillinger Escape Plan, M.O.D.).

“Whatever you may see. The change resides in me. Fluidly. Any genre any dream sphinges, sibling selves and queens. A rollercoaster for each moment mood or picture frame. Please love me the same.’ from “Observation Deck/Shinges Sibling Selves And Queens”

I identify as multi-gender at this point, after a lot of research and therapy and trans groups and not feeling quite like what other people were discussing wrapped up my experiences similarly in a bow. I know that can be confusing for people. They are like ,”what do you want? It has to be this or that.” Nope. MYE.

This is a lengthy interview conducted in July by Kriegmaster Hatesturm of the great anti fascist agitators Neckbeard Deathcamp, kind enough to inquire into the guest artists, overall album background and the reasons behind prominent multi-gender/non binary themes on my new Walking Bombs album Sphinges, Sibling Selves and Queens. The album is out now via Nefarious Industries HERE.

Pittsburgh metallers Signs of the Swarm have released their newest lyric video for their track “Tempting Death.” The track features Tom Barber of Chelsea Grin.

The track was released via Slam Worldwide and comes off the band’s forthcoming album Vital Deprivation. The album is due out October 11 via Unique Leader Records. The 10 track album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland (August Burns Red, Rivers of Nihil, The Last Ten Seconds of Life) at Think Loud Studios in York, Pa.

Signs of the Swarm said of the release:

“We are pleased to present our third album via Unique Leader Records, Vital Deprivation. We began writing for the album shortly after TDOE was released. From the beginning we had a sound in mind that was more aggressive and fast paced, but equally as brutal as our previous releases. What makes this album different from our past is that we wrote with pleasing ourselves in mind first and foremost. We’ve covered a lot of ground in just under 40 minutes. Some of the album may be what you expect to hear from us, and hopefully some may not. David Simonich is a powerhouse of a vocalist bringing a whole new range of motion to the band’s spectrum. His lyrical content and cadence bring a more emotional and poetic energy to Signs while retaining the aggression he’s become known for. We’d like to thank Carson Slovak & Grant McFarland for helping us to shape this album into a coherent message from beginning to end. Thank you to our fans who have supported us relentlessly, this is the first of many to come. Please enjoy Vital Deprivation.”

Signs of the Swarm will hit the road this Fall as part of the Disentomb-headlined Bloodletting North America tour alongside Visceral Disgorge, Continuum, Organectomy, and Mental Cruelty.
