The Birmingham Post is reporting that Philip Parkin of the Birmingham City Council is such a huge Black Sabbath fan that he has gone so far as to write other city officials urging the creation of an official “Black Sabbath Day”.

The “Destination Birmingham” document said:

“Black Sabbath’s reunion and their agreement to headline Download Festival in June is an opportunity we should not miss. Early discussions are taking place about how best the city should celebrate this and the council should be supporting any celebrations.”

Guitarist Tony Iommi was recently diagnosed with cancer, but is reportedly responding well to early treatment and plans to play Download Festival are still on as far as anyone seems to know.

Phillip Parkin had this to say about his plans for “Black Sabbath Day”:

“The report is saying that Black Sabbath reforming is significant, Black Sabbath are huge and metal is huge. Given this, it is us saying to the council that we need to celebrate the fact these people come from Birmingham and there could be various ways we could do it.”
