So as of now for the immeasurable future while I am running this site we will not be covering ANY artists on Agonia Records. We have heaped resounding praise on many of their artists before. Some of my legit favorite metal bands are on the label. Forgotten Tomb, Centinex, Varathron, Hail Spirit Noir…sorry, take it up with your label. In Mourning even made our top albums of 2019 last year. But I am not doing shit to help promote a label that signs a band who have been accused of unrepentant transphobia against a former band member, Vis Crom aka Melissa Moore. Now there is an attempted very slight rebranding going on, which one Facebook comment noted was akin to IHOP changing a letter.
Moore has issued a new and more detailed account of her firing from Absu and a screenshot of a phone call that appears to show Russ being a complete gaslighting piece of shit. It is so disgusting it makes me want to throw up.
Proscriptor aka Russ Givens and Ezezu aka Paul Williamson are transphobes who threw me out of Absu like a piece of trash because I’m trans. This is not the whole story, I’m just starting it here right now…it’s really hard and painful for me. I need to find a way to talk about this in more detail. If they just recorded a full new 12 song album that’s none of my business, but it’d be incredibly disappointing to learn that after kicking me out they still used my playing and songs. I hope that’s not the case. During our final tour in 2017 I told my bandmates that I’m trans. This was the moment everything changed between us. I didn’t ask them to call me a different name or use different pronouns. I just let them know I was trans, and that’s it. They started treating me like a pariah. Like, they didn’t even want to share a hotel room with me. I figured their obvious negativity would resolve itself once the realization had time to settle. Nothing was different about my performance in the band or my quality as a person. Shortly after that, Russ fired me in a text message (attached). When he references “your decision” he’s talking about my “decision” to transition. After receiving this text I called Russ back and told him he couldn’t use my playing or my songs on the album we just recorded. His response: “Uh, why?” I said, “First tell me why you fired me,” and his response was “You fired yourself…with your decision”.
You’re legacy, Russ? Friends don’t guilt other friends for being trans, asshole. How about the fact that it isn’t edgy or esoteric to be a transphobic cis dude? WTF is cool and magical about that? Literally nothing. It is incel reddit garbage.
ANYONE ought to find that offensive but as a Demiflux person I super find it offensive. Here is a great article for anyone reading this who might be inclined to write ,”science doesn’t care about your feelings.”
We are in no way obligated to platform bands that are unapologetic about messed up shit or labels who think it is cool to deflect looking at these concerns. There can be restorative justice in the world and scene but this sure as fuck aint it. And the label DELETING my comments about it on their IG post below SURE AS Hell didn’t make me less inclined to write this article, morons!

Agonia Records today confirms the signing of the new, Texas-based “mythological occult metal” act Proscriptor McGovern’s Apsû (@officialabsu). The debut/self-titled album’s release date is to be announced in the latter portion of 2020. When drummer/vocalist Proscriptor (Russ R. Givens) dissolved Absu on January 27th 2020, his main intention was to splinter the 30-year old faction into a renewed songwriting concord. Proscriptor McGovern’s Apsû is the obvious by-product of that chemical breakdown and securing the ranks is continuing bassist/vocalist Ezezu and new guitar virtuoso Vaggreaz. #proscriptormcgovernsapsû #absu #apsû #apsu #occultmetal #mythologicalmetal #blackmetal #usblackmetal #zemial #rosstheboss #possessed #auranoir #vltimas #agressor #agatus #zbigniewbielak #jtlongoria #karldanielliden #thrashmetal #deathmetal #heavymetal #barathrumvitriol #TheSunofTiphareth #TheThirdStormofCythraul #Tara #InTheEyesOfIoldanach #Abzu #tracklisting #newalbum
