SepulturaMax Cavalera, (frontman for Sepultura, Soulfly, and Cavalera Conspiracy) sat down with Westword to talk about lyrical subject matter and how it’s changed from the beginning of his musical career to now.

Westword explains “As the leader of Sepultura for over a decade, Max Cavalera helped put Brazil on the map. From the beginning, the outfit was clearly influenced by punk rock as much as it was by other metal bands, as evidenced by its socially conscious lyrics, its grassroots efforts to get its music out into the world, and its disregard for strict genre conventions… Since its debut, Soulfly has been a different kind of metal band, not just in terms of lyrical content, but also for its unique use of guitar sounds and non-traditional instrumentation..”
