According to Rolling Stone, Nine Inch Nails founder Trent Reznor is intending to contribute at least two new songs for a greatest hits album that will arrive in 2014, likely to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the group’s 1989 multiplatinum debut album Pretty Hate Machine.

Reznor also stated that there are plans “to write music for a new album afterwards” and that “(new material is) in its gestation period”, which backs up statements made by the frontman last month relating to the likelihood of new material.

Nine Inch Nails, who went on hiatus from touring in 2009, last released the albums Ghosts I–IV and The Slip, both in 2008 independently.
