Death metal icons, Opeth, have announced an exclusive 7″ release for “US Record Store Day 2011,” taking place on April 16th. Managed by the Music Monitor Network and organized in partnership with the Alliance of Independent Media Stores and the Coalition of Independent Music Stores, US Record Store Day celebrates independent record stores through in-store events and performances, autograph signings and special product releases.
The Opeth track, “The Throat of Winter,” was originally featured on the “God of War: Blood & Metal” digital EP, and will see its first and only physical incarnation on this limited edition release.
The 7″‘s B-side is etched with Opeth’s logo and jacket artwork created by longtime band collaborator, Travis Smith.
A very limited number–only 40 units–will go on sale on Opeth’s Web store on Monday, April 18th with a signed Watershed promo card.
