Periphery’s ‘Hail Stan’ is here and may be their biggest statement yet

Today is the big release day for one of the most anticipated (and rightly so) albums of the year, the hysterically titled Hail Stan, by Periphery. In a sense, it is a pretty perfect name for an album in these days when stan culture is really off the charts bonkers and semi-satanic half the time. It also happens to feature some of the progressive metalcore band’s heaviest and most elaborate work. The Juggernaut era is hard to top for me but this new record is phenomenal.

Periphery manage to give themselves a pat on the back via obviously pure love of the artform, give the fans what they want and STILL challenge them. Has the pact between art and artist, stan and musician ever been more blurred? The beauty of this record is it reminds us all we are fans at heart. And lucky to be alive.

It is only 1/4 of the way through the year but I know that this and the Venom Prison record are gonna be very hard to dislodge from my top ten of 2019. The hype is real. If nothing else, you owe it to yourself to check out the massive opening track ‘Reptile” today, which is one of the most ambitious moments from the band to date.
