I’m fighting back tears as I write this. 2016 has been a horrible year for musician deaths, and sadly, we have just added another name to the list.
The metal world suffered a tragic blow last night when Nick Menza passed suddenly from heart failure at 51 while on stage in LA as he performed with OHM at The Baked Potato club.
As the drummer for MEGADETH from 1989 to 1998, Nick played on 4 of the band’s biggest albums to date, and became a huge influence to millions across the globe. Nick also appeared on some of Marty Friedman’s solo albums, and had even recorded his own solo album after his release from MEGADETH titled Life After Deth. He also recently announced he was set to unveil a collection of “Rhythm-On-Canvas” art he’d been working on that he called “Rhythm Hits The Wall”.
My heart goes out to all those Nick has left behind – family, friends, bandmates, and millions of fans worldwide. Nick was a tremendously talented man who lived a legendary life and died doing what he loved.
