By now most of you have heard the shocking and incredibly tragic news that Trevor Strnad of melodic death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder has passed away. Through nine albums of punishing and unapologetic death metal worship and funny antics, Strnad led the band to amazing heights and inspired countless kids to feel excited to be part of this scene.
It just…underscores mental health month being a bunch of fucking lip service to most people. Sorry if that sounds mean (and is certainly not directed at any of his friends or loved ones who have tried to help him over the years), but this is pretty triggering to me. I just lost my own mom and just feel for dude so hard. It is really hard to feel like you are supposed to just go through that and then go back to being normal right away. Fucking hell. I just mean that society in general really fails to have enough mechanisms in place to catch everyone when they are falling.
TBDM wrote on socials: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Trevor Scott Strnad. Beloved son, brother, and Shepard of good times, he was loved by all that met him. A walking encyclopedia of all things music. He was a hugger, a writer, and truly one of the world’s greatest entertainers. His lyrics provided the world with stories and spells and horror and whimsy. It was his life to be your show.” The band also shared the telephone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
