Metallica singer and guitarist James Hetfield sang backup vocals on "Twist of Cain" and "Possession" from Danzig's 1988 self-titled debut album, but was uncredited. The reason he was uncredited was because of record contract issues.

Annihilator and Archer Nation Euro Tour Dates are here

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 2:37 PM (PST)

California metal act ARCHER NATION are set to cross the pond again as main support to Canadian thrash legends Annihilator for a 2-month/40-show run across UK and Europe.

Says vocalist/guitarist Dylan Rose, ” Archer Nation previously supported Annihilator in the UK and Europe in 2015 so it was a huge honor to get the call again. Jeff Waters is such an underrated guitarist and contributor to thrash metal, and his band is better than ever. We’re very excited to bring our new album to our friends in Europe for the first time.”

Archer Nation released their Mike Clink (Guns N’ Roses, Megadeth) produced LP Beneath The Dream earlier this year on David Ellefson’s EMP LABEL GROUP, before heading out on tour supporting Anvil, and David Ellefson himself on his Summer MORE LIFE WITH DETH tour, where the band performed an impromptu version of “Tornado of Souls” with Ellefson and HATCHET guitarist Clayton Cagle, as a tribute to Dave Mustaine who was recently diagnosed with throat cancer, at SWEETWATER in Ft. Wayne, IN.

Cynic‘s Traced In Air makes me feel like friggin’ Light Hope from She Ra has appeared in a vision above me and told me the universal deep feels hidden truths of prog metal. It is crazy that it has already been over a decade since the bold album brought the well-heralded band from a fifteen year dormancy and bursting back into the scene with a more melodic yet superbly potent tendencies. Now this week there is an incredible NEW version of the album Traced In Air Remixed for us nerds to lose our collective gushing shit over…and it is a huge blessing! It was an integral birth of a new era for the band and deserves more scrutiny in any form that takes.

Now, a decade later, CYNIC usher forth a renewed edition of that very album. Featuring new tracking by virtuoso bassist Sean Malone and a vibrant new mix by PERIPHERY’s Adam “Nolly” Getgood (ANIMALS AS LEADERS, DEVIN TOWNSEND, HAKEN) plus mastering by Ermin Hamidovic (PERIPHERY, THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT, ANIMALS AS LEADERS, etc.), ‘Traced in Air Remixed’ underscores the record’s importance within the genre.

GRAB IT SEPT 27th!

Track List:
01. Nunc Fluens (02:57)
02. The Space For This (05:47)
03. Evolutionary Sleeper (03:36)

Thrash icons Slayer have released a live clip of their ferocious current live opener, the recent late career single “Repentless”. While it is a newer addition to the band’s storied collection of ragers, it is nonetheless a favorite in the fandom. As the band performs the last show of its Final World Tour on Saturday, November 30, they felt the urge to release this live document of the beginning of the band’s concert, Slayer’s entrance on stage, and aforementioned opening song, “Repentless.” Taken from the upcoming two-part Slayer: The Relentless Killogy motion picture and companion LP/CD release “Live At The Forum in Inglewood, CA” due out November 8 (Nuclear Blast), this proves the band can still make Hell Await when the fire stirs inside of them.

Pre-order Slayer: The Repentless Killogy (Live at the Forum in Inglewood, CA) HERE and receive an instant download of the single “Relentless” (live.” The single is also available on all streaming services,. Listen now at https://geni.us/SlayerKillogy.

Slayer will begin The Final Campaign, the last leg of its Final World Tour on November 2, wrapping up its touring career with two shows at The Forum in Los Angeles on November 29 and 30. Tickets and VIP Meet N Greet Upgrades are available at www.slayer.net.

Daring Norwegian black metal horde 1349  have released the official music video for the song “Dødskamp.” The track was originally recorded in conjunction with the Edvard Munch museum and will appear on the band’s new record, The Infernal Pathway. The clip, which was filmed and edited by Carl Eek Torgersen / Necrolust Productions at Inferno Festival 2019 in Oslo, Norway, can be seen at below.

Earlier this year, “Dødskamp” was commissioned by Innovation Norway, Visit Norway, and the Munch Museum. Along with four Norwegian artists within four different genres of music, 1349 were asked to interpret their angle on a freely selected work by the famous painter Edvard Munch.

Since the release of the single, Visit Norway has shared a video in which 1349 gives detailed insight as to their inspiration behind the song and why they chose that particular piece. The video can be seen HERE.

The Infernal Pathway will be released worldwide on October 18 and can be pre-ordered HERE.

Fall Free For All: High Command, Gatecreeper news items

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 10:15 AM (PST)

Worcester, Massachusetts-based crossover band High Command shall take a smoldering cauldron of heavy metal and fantasy worship and dump it on top of all your soon to be steaming heads this week when their Southern Lord backed Beyond The Wall of Desolation drops on Sept. 27th. “Impaled Upon The Gates” MIGHT be the most metal song I have heard all year (though the new Dark Throne has a lot of other candidates going for it in that department, I gotta say). The band have been supporting Spirit Adrift and are ready to embrace the coming victories that will surely follow this album’s potential glory. You can safely bet that this record turns skulls to powder for undead armored alligators to snort.

The mighty GATECREEPER rage back with a new video “From The Ashes” below.

GATECREEPER vocalist Chase Mason comments:
“From The Ashes is the most anthemic song we have ever written. Although we have flirted with the idea in the past, there are more melodic guitar leads in this song than ever before. I’d say this one is primed and ready for the European Metal Festival circuit.”

The intense old school vibes and dark wonder of this song is smooshing me into pulpy radness. God damn, the riff potency.

Additionally, GATECREEPER recently announced a Fall co-headlining tour with labelmates EXHUMED. The tour begins on October 31 in Austin, TX and ends December 4 in Las Vegas, NV. Additional support by Necrot & Judiciary. Tickets are on sale now.

Deserted is due out October 4th on CD/LP/CS/Digital. Physical packages are available for pre-order via Relapse.com HERE. Digital Downloads / Streaming Services are available HERE.

Omnium Gatherum – New song and lyric video for “Chaospace”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 12:06 PM (PST)

Happy afternoon, fellow metal backyard yokels. I am zoning out watching Azealia Mermaid Ball “Jumanji” on YouTube (one of her best songs, still). Anyway I paused a minute to check my emails and learned some sick ass metal news regarding a current favorite.

Melodic death metal masters OMNIUM GATHERUM are excited to announce the release of their new track “Chaospace”. The previously unreleased track was written and recorded during the sessions of the band’s latest and critically acclaimed full-length album The Burning Cold. “Chaospace” is released as a 2-track digital single that also features a cover version of SEPULTURA’s “We Who Are Not As Others”. Watch it below.

I caught like heavier + more technical Colony-era In Flames vibes from parts of this one, certainly a killer new song and everyone’s parts work really well together!

OMNIUM GATHERUM guitarist Markus Vanhala states, “‘Chaospace’ – head banging, skull crushing straight-forward OG melodeath assault and the evil cousin of “The Burning Cold” legacy! It’s not exactly “the new” song representing where the band is heading at the moment, as this song was recorded already during “The Burning Cold” -sessions back in early 2018. It didn’t exactly fit the album drama and entirety, so we decided to keep it to be released later as a stand-alone single track and a reminder that we’re here alive an’ well! …And now’s the time to unleash this beasty – right before our European headliner tour, that’s starting next week, where we’re gonna kick your arse every night with this “Chaospace” bastardo too. N-joy & see you down the road once again!!!”

“The song is about inevitability of change, and the chaos it brings forth before routine sets in,” adds Jukka Pelkonen about the lyrics.

Get the 2-track single digitally here: https://omnium-gatherum.lnk.to/ChaospaceSingle

Furthermore, the never resting OMNIUM GATHERUM will be hitting the road again in late September and October. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the band’s website.

Richmond’s .gif from god‘s complete monster of a Prosthetic debut is currently eating alive anyone who previews it in full over at Mathcore Index RIGHT HERE. Trust us when we say it is kind of a good time. You can tell the band white knuckled their deepest emotions into these sick ass, rollicking demonic freight train performances.

“Possible Futures In The Minds Of Children” is prob my favorite tune on here so far, giving me mathcore version of FNM’s “As The Worm Turns” vibes on the intro before exploding into jealousy inducing levels of chaos. Also love the way “Take The Flesh, Make It Stretchy” kicks off, just one of those songs that you know people will be likely to freak out live when they hear a split second of it begin.

approximation_of_a_human is available Friday, September 27th. Pre-order is available HERE. This band fucking rules and are def our favorite of the groups who are kind of showing some 00’s mathcore and screamo snark/mosh influence currently.

Band Spotlight: Green Druid

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at 3:24 PM (PST)

Winter may be around the bend but climate change is real and you will not find apathy from the Denver doom riff inclined metallic/nature honoring covenant known as Green Druid .

Who better than druids to know with a grim certainty that the Earth needs our help?

Want to hear one of the most timely and heavy slow molten lava toe tapping tempo songs on environmental issues all year? “The End of Men” has got you covered with a captivating psychedelic visualizer video HERE. We all have to embrace this moment in time and face this era with our most determined artwork, habits and as much pragmatism as we can muster in order to survive.

“The End of Men is a commentary on the general state of decay that our planet is currently in,” comments guitarist and vocalist Graham Zander. “In recent years it has become increasingly common for people among our generation to feel an overall sense of doom. This stems from everything from the impending climate apocalypse to world politics.”

In Mourning release ‘Yields of Sand’ official lyric video

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 3:17 PM (PST)

Garden of Storms is sure to be one of the finest offerings of 2019. Let’s just say I have been anticipating it a lot more than releases by way bigger bands. IN MOURNING are one of my favorite metal bands operating currently, so talented and able to squeeze real emotion and innovation out of some familiar forms. They just write tremendously cohesive albums and songs and have never disappointed. Loving the new tune ‘Yields of Sand’ which charms and challenges with emotional battle filled allegory and paints vivid pictures of reflections over music that showcases proggy, death and super intricate melodic elements; many of the aspects of the group that fans enjoy.

Press release for the new album follows:

Sweden’s melodic, progressive death/doom metal masters IN MOURNING, will release a new studio album titled “Garden Of Storms” on October 4th worldwide via Agonia Records. Shortly following the album’s release, the band will embark on a European tour with Omnium Gatherum.

Hailed by many as the heir to Opeth’s melodeath throne, IN MOURNING was formed in the Swedish woods in the year 2000. Since then, the band has evolved, striving to refine its sound to what it is today. Musically, the group blends a broad spectrum of influences into a foundation of melodic death metal. Thrusting from doomy metal-riffs, blasting drumbeats and deep growling vocals, to calm breezes of clean flowing melodies and harmonies.

“Garden Of Storms” features seven new tracks replete with artwork from Kristian WĂĽhlin (Bathory, At The Gates, King Diamond).

Cattle Decap remind us on The Anthropocene Extinction that we might never get to make another end of century list if we keep up the bullshit.

I recently perused The Guardian’s inconsistent and often absurd best 100 albums of the 21st Century List. While I was shocked and pleased to see PJ Harvey, Joanna Newsome and especially mighty Deftones included relatively high up and while I do love Amy Winehouse, there was some really silly shit on there as well. Really? We are still doing the kiss Kanye’s ass thing? You guys put the album with “All of The Lights” on it in the top 5? A song that praises MJ and calls for forgiveness for “misunderstood” domestic abusers who just need to be shown Rihanna’s body for the rest of their life and who jealously once they get out of jail beat up the lover of the woman the character beat up first in the song? Can we just not? Hey, redemption is great when and if it is actually deserved in life, but Ye as that character sounds like an asshole still in that song and very self-centering…and I am 100 percent certain every Clutch album released in the 21st Century is better than the majority of their list. Shit, my fucking friends bands have made better albums than a lot of that list. Not to mention we are talking about the ENTIRE world of culture and all we can come up with is Kanye and LCD Soundsystem yet again like every shitty homogeneous festival headlining package of the last decade plus? Barf.

Anyway, to each their own but…I was kind of planning on a semi-“best of” list of the last 20 years as I hate how metal and punk often are thrown to the trash heap on these lists. Instead of that however, as taste is at times subjective, I wanted to do a piece on 10 specifically punk and metal or underground albums I think deserved more love which were all fucking excellent and made between 2000-present. All of these babies certainly deserve as many fans as, say, friggin’ United Abominations, And Justice For None or Death Magnetic or whatever the heck. Here are my OWN personal picks BELOW.I am not saying these are like the best of all albums post 00′ but that they deserve revisiting and way more popularity. What are yours?

Lo-Pan release mind bending new video for ‘Savage Heart’

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 12:18 PM (PST)

Lo-Pan return with a staggeringly cool new music video for their song “Savage Heart.” This trippy and creative clip will make even straight edge kids feel like they swam underwater to the Moon. Into it. Created by collage artist Somsara Rielly using old school stop-motion animation, it is one of the more refreshing videos I have seen in 2019.

Order new album Subtle today! The album is available on LP with a sleeve designed by Eric Palmerlee, and as always for Aqualamb releases, as a 100 page art book/digital download package. RIYL Torche, Nebula, ASG.
