OCTOBER TIDE‘s Fredrik Norrman (ex-Katatonia), co-founder and guitarist of the Swedish, melodic death metal group, reports that the band has been writing songs for their sixth studio album, follow-up to “Winged Waltz” from 2016, and has booked a studio for the end of November, to start the recording process.

Norrman commented: “We haven’t made much noise about this so far, but we have written a bunch of songs lately. In fact, we have almost a whole album more or less finished”.

The plans are to have the album – whose mixing and mastering duties will be handeled by Karl Daniel Liden (Bloodbath, Katatonia, Cult Of Luna) – completed by late January, and released on Agonia Records in spring 2019.

OCTOBER TIDE‘s last live appearance took place in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) on October 26th. Shortly before the recording sessions, the band will travel south to Bucharest (Romania), where they’ll perform at the Metal Gates Festival with Rotting Christ, Shining and Draconian. Whilst recording the album, they’ll play a show at December Doom Festival in Vantaa (Finland), with plans to do a special  setlist from their debut release,“Rain Without End”.

Formed in 1995 by Katatonia members, Jonas Renkse and Fred Norrman, OCTOBER TIDE spawned two, now-cult releases, “Rain Without End” (1997) and “Grey Dawn” (1999), before going on hiatus for over eleven years. Reunited in 2009, the Swedes released three studio albums: “A Thin Shell” (2010), “Tunnel Of No Light” (2013) and “Winged Waltz” (2016), all of which featured exceptional guitar work, on top of the band’s emotional touch on death metal.

Heavy metal doom bringers CASTLE have announced a 12 date headlining trek across the US including a performance at this year’s Maryland Doom Fest in Frederick, MD on June 23. The tour will kick off in Pittsburgh on June 19 before hitting select cities on the east coast and winding its way back to California where the band have just completed writing their new album. Scheduled to begin recording over the next month in Portland, OR with producer Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Eyehategod), CASTLE‘s fifth full length is set for a September release.

Additionally, the band have announced several European shows upcoming in October and November, including a string of dates in Germany with The Skull as well as festival appearances at The Malta Doom Fest (Oct 19), Doom Over Vienna (Nov 10) and Dutch Doom Days (Nov 24). Expect more European dates to follow.

Cool death metal news today as Gruesome have completed the follow up to Savage Land. Yes, the other releases from them were EPs. Their latest studio offering, titled Twisted Prayers, was recorded with producer Jarrett Pritchard (Exhumed, 1349, Goatwhore, Wolvhammer) at New Constellation Studios in Orlando, Florida. Twisted Prayers follows Death’s paradigm shift during the Spiritual Healing era, incorporating more cerebral, melodic instrumentation with elements of thrash and thought-provoking, socially conscious lyrics. The record once again features artwork from the legendary Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth, Venom) and is expected to be released this summer via Relapse Records. POP EVIL has released a behind the scenes studio video surrounding their time spent at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville this past summer. The video, the first in a series of videos to come, documents the band living together as they embarked on the writing process for their fifth studio LP.

The band will embark on the Music Over Words Tour, which will serve as the official kickoff for their recently announced all-new, self-titled LP. Additionally, POP EVIL is confirmed for festival dates Carolina Rebellion on Friday, May 5th, and Fort Rock on Sunday, April 29th.

The massive US tour kicks off on February 14th in Sault Ste. Marie, MI at the Kewadin Casino. The band will hit both sides of the U.S. coast before wrapping things up at The Fillmore in Detroit on April 6th. Band VIP goes on sale Tuesday at www.popevilvip.com. PALAYE ROYALE and label-mates BLACK MAP will serve as support for all dates.

My favorite hard rock band Clutch, indeed the truest road tested road doggin’ purveyors of rabble rousing rock n roll in recent modernity, have done and entered the studio to begin tracking a new album and follow-up to 2015’s gosh darn straight up ear-aphrodisiac Psychic Warfare. Recording is currently taking place at Sputnik Sound in Nashville, TN with producer and engineer Vance Powell (The White Stripes, Red Fang) at the helm.

The greatest band on this scorched rock are also playing the Bud Light sponsored Rocklahoma in May alongside other greats like Halestorm, A Perfect Circle, Godsmack, New Years Day and Diamond Head (to name a few). Shit yeah to all that.

A mid 2018 release of the title TBA Clutch record (in progress) via Weathermaker Music is expected.

New York City-area powerdementia faction GRIDFAILURE has completed a new video for “Sew Nothing, Reap Nothingness,” while many other new recordings and projects are nearing completion for release in 2018.

“Sew Nothing, Reap Nothingness” is found on GRIDFAILURE’s I Shall Not Survive Another Winter, which was independently released on the Autumnal Equinox. Each song on I Shall Not Survive Another Winter grows longer than the one preceding it, the record exploring a vision of Post-Sixth Mass-Extinction Skullduggery which is the concept of the upcoming Teeth Collection and Drought Stick albums, portraying a grim vision of humanity’s future. A nearby reality where those who have survived mankind’s override by artificial intelligence, the ecological rebellion of our planet, and thermonuclear warfare amidst our own kind strive to rebuild society, and are continually thwarted.

With multiple new full-length titles, EPs, videos, and other projects in the works, GRIDAILURE is also heavily immersed in fully cooperative albums with a wide array of artists. The second collaborative album with Brooklyn experimentalist MEGALOPHOBE and a collaborative EP with upstate New York anti-folk/punk act WALKING BOMBS are both halfway completed. A collaborative EP with FYRHTU, a new project formed by Leila Abdul-Rauf (Vastum, Ionophore, Cardinal Wyrm) and Nathan A. Verrill (Cardinal Wyrm), is well underway, and a fully audio/visual collaborative release with PORNOHELMUT – the side project of Neil Barrett of Austin-based experimental/grind metal act Blk Ops and Novel Concept TV – is currently under construction.

Expect a new record on the horizon from extreme art grinders Pig Destroyer.

The celebrated band has entered the studio to begin recording their 6th studio album and follow-up to 2012’s Book Burner. The yet-to-be-named full-length is being recorded at the band’s own Visceral Sound Studios in Bethesda, MD and recorded/produced by guitarist Scott Hull. The album is expected to be released Summer 2018 via Relapse Records.

Additionally, PIG DESTROYER has announced a few exclusive concerts for the winter. The band will tour the weekend of December 7-9 in California with a tremendously intense line up featuring Despise You, Necrot & labelmates Call of the Void!

PIG DESTROYER kicks off 2018 with two East Coast shows in New Jersey and in Long Island at Obnoxious Noise Fest. The band has also been confirmed for Maryland Deathfest 2018 on May 26 in Baltimore, MD. Stay tuned for further tour details in the near future.
