Napalm Death to release split 7″ with Converge

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 6:15 AM (PST)

In some of the coolest news to come out in a while, Napalm Death and Converge are reportedly going to release a split 7″ together. Wow does that sound awesome.

Napalm Death will be recording two songs called “Will By Mouth” and “No Impediment To Triumph”, while Converge will be offering up two songs called “No Light Escapes” and a cover of the Entombed classic “Wolverine Blues” which has all kinds of guests such as Tomas Lindberg (Disfear, At The Gates, Lock Up), Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Split Cranium), Kevin Baker (All Pigs Must Die, The Hope Conspiracy), Brian Izzi (Trap Them), and supposedly more. Sounds fucking epic.

There’s no official release date as of yet, but we will keep you posted.

Album Review: Napalm Death – “Utilitarian”

Posted by Allred on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 10:05 AM (PST)

“…each of the four were unto themselves a whirlwind of doom! When the smoke did clear, many thousands were dead. There was much blood and gore. Their bodies lay broken and scattered across the battlefield, like brown leaves blown by the wind. And I saw the four ride together to the top of the hill, while below the soldiers of death assembled all those who would now swear allegiance to them.”

Why did I just blatantly plagiarize a piece of Manowar’s “The Warrior’s Prayer”? Well, because it is exactly how I felt after listening to Napalm Death’s fourteenth studio album, “Utilitarian” (JD’s #1 Pick of February).

That’s right friends, they’ve done it again. Napalm Death are simply one of the hardest working, consistent bands in the world of extreme metal, period. Throughout the last twenty-five years, since the release of their debut album “Scum”, and especially over the course of the past dozen years and six consecutive albums, Napalm Death have proven to the world that they are indeed the undisputed kings of grindcore.

MR Staff Picks: Top Albums of February 2012 (MetalRiotJD)

And a phenomenal year of metal continues through the month of February. Well, my fellow heathens and cretins, this was another month where I’m literally sweating over my top picks for the month. Let me remind you again, I haven’t listened to every single album that has come out this month. Who has that kind of time!? I wish I did.

And as always, I’m rambling. Just head on over here to see what I think to be this month’s top metal albums. Let the harassing criticism begin!

Music Video: Napalm Death – “Analysis Paralysis”

Posted by SeanB on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 7:01 PM (PST)

Napalm Death have just released a video for the first single from their brand new Century Media release Utilitarian.  The song is called “Analysis Paralysis” and is all about self analysis and the willingness to accept the perspectives of others. Frontman Mark “Barney” Greenway has quite a bit to say about the song in a track by track breakdown that you can see here (it’s the second track in).

This is the band’s fourteenth studio release, the song is brutal, and the video is low budget, so really what more do you wan’t.  It’s highly suggested that you check it out here and then go and take a good hard look at yourself and cry.

Napalm Death to re-release “Scum”

Posted by XxCrashQueenxX on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM (PST)

Napalm Death is set to Re-release their album Scum. The album was remixed and will not only be released in CD form but also in full colored vinyl by Earache Records on March 5th.

What causes Napalm Death to re-release the album 25 years later? For one, it is the 25th Anniversary of the album which was originally released in July of 1987 and secondly, they would like to lessen the bad sound quality that “Loudness War” brings to albums after years of mixing them to sound louder.

Now, you’re probably thinking….”What the heck is ‘Loudness War’?” Loudness War is the process in which media is being transferred from one recording device to another and the sound is increased each time this is done. For example; when an artist records something in the studio (using tools such as equalizers and dynamic range compression to increase the volume of their sound) and then has the media transferred and ripped onto a CD, then you rip the CD to your laptop and into your iPod the sound quality must be increased each time in order for you to hear it with the full impact on the various devices. By doing so, once the media has reached it’s peak in sound it can cause distortion of the media clips causing the sound quality to become rather low quality.

And now you know!

Napalm Death announce new album title, release date, and cover artwork

Posted by jrod1209 on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 3:07 PM (PST)

U.K. grindcore act Napalm Death is currently putting the final touches on their 14th studio album. This new album is entitled “Utilitarian,” and it will hit stores on February 27th in Europe and February 28th in North America via Century Media Records. The cover artwork was created by the Danish artist Frode Sylthe.

Singer Mark “Barney” Greenway explains the album title and concept:

“After some deliberation, we have decided on Utilitarian as the album title. We generally try to avoid generic titles, and this seemed to have a lot of scope to it. I won’t explain the full meaning of Utilitarianism here because it’s an ethical theory, and as ethical theories go, the depth and debate around it is quite heavy at times. It has a certain ‘morality’ aspect to it and that isn’t something that drives me, so I also certainly have issues with it.”

“So, rather than just nail that straight to the mast, of course we wanted to put our own spin on it by suggesting that those (i.e. the utilitarian in us, perhaps) who try to challenge everything, or fight against conventions, well, we go through periods of real self-doubt where we wonder if we’re really making a difference. I suppose the conclusion is that, for the sake of all our freedoms, you should never stop, as even the feeling of resistance is at least a signal to those who would like to entirely control and dominate us – meaning everything from our instinctive behavior to our human entitlement to walk the earth unprovoked.”

“Regarding the album overall, the final creases should be ironed out fairly soon, and immediately after that, we thought it would be good to top it off with a few UK dates. We’ve been playing one new song (“Quarantined”) out on a tour of Canada and it’s been well received, so we hope to perhaps throw in another one for now. Either way, we’ll be bouncing off the walls again near you very soon. Cheers all.”
