New Video: Gojira – “The Making Of ‘L’Enfant Sauvage'”

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 7:02 AM (PST)

French death metal heads Gojira recently recorded four mini videos documenting the recording of their upcoming Roadrunner Records release titled L’Enfant Sauvage.  The recording was done at Spin Recording Studios in Long Island, New York with Josh Wilbur from Lamb of God.  The band has decided to combined the videos into one condensed super video which you can check out right here.

L’Enfant Sauvage is due out June 26, 2012 and when asked about the direction of the album, vocalist/guitarist Joe Duplantier commented:

“It’s more mature . . . There’s less bullshit. [laughs] There’s more intensity and simplicity at the same time. Drum-wise, for example, Mario [Duplantier] has been serving the music, but with a lot more of his experience in the drumming, and a lot of reflection in the work. His drum fills, for example, are be simpler, yet more technical. For a real drummer to hear [what he’s doing], they’ll go, ‘Holy shit, man. What did you do?’ For someone who is not into drumming, they’ll go through the song and say, ‘Wow, cool.’ There’s more technique and more experience.” He continued, “Personally, I had a vision of this album, with what I would like to see happening. I was imagining something very organic and very deep, with more natural sounds. Music-wise, it’s something like a dream and a storm… it’s magical. I had this vision with colors, sounds and shapes in my mind. I almost dreamed about it. ‘Wow, I feel like this album is going to be like that.’ But I didn’t know.”

Gojira reveal album title and release date of upcoming album

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 8:21 AM (PST)

French death metal band Gojira have revealed their album title and the release date of their upcoming album. The album’s title is L’Enfant Sauvage which translates to “The Wild Child.”

The album, featuring 11 tracks of mind-bending thunderous metal is set to be released on June 26th via Roadrunner Records.

“When you become a musician, you don’t have a boss telling you what to do so you have to be very responsible,” singer/guitarist/songwriter Joe Duplantier said, shedding a little light on the title and its meaning. “With freedom comes responsibility, so I’m asking myself, ‘What is freedom? What does it mean to me?’ L’Enfant Sauvage reflects on that. There’s no answer though. There’s just life and questions.”

A special collector’s package of the album will feature two bonus tracks and a double-colored vinyl version of the record, along with an exclusive t-shirt.

Sonisphere 2012 has been cancelled

Posted by jessepac on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 1:31 PM (PST)

Sonisphere 2012The pride of Knebworth, England has is no longer, as the 2012 edition of the Sonisphere Festival is no longer happeneing.

Here is the full statement from the promoters:

“It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012. Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect. We want to express our deepest regrets to the artists and to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors who worked so hard with us to try and pull off what has proven to be an impossible task and we know how much they share in our disappointment. We also want to send a huge thanks to the Sonisphere fans who stuck by us and we are so sorry that we can’t fulfil what we set out to do. Ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund direct from their ticket agents.”

Metal acts like Mastodon, Gojira, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Electric Wizard, and many more were slated to play.
