In shocking news, ex-The Gates of Slumber member Jason McCash has passed. No report yet on cause of death. Rough day between Jason, Leee Black Childers, John Pinette and (far less importantly) the Undertaker’s streak. WTF!??

Karl Simon posted this brief and heartbreaking statement:

My best friend died last night. There will be no reunion – no more of TGoS. It’s dead beyond dead, and I’ve lost a brother. Please be respectful or silent. It’s a small world and I’m still alive. Remember that shit.

Members of the metal community from Dave Witte to Nachtmystium to Star & Dagger to Church Of Misery expressed sorrow at the unexpected passing. Doom onward through the Gates of the next world, Jason.

Ghost B.C. posts “Papaganda” documentary clip

Posted by GageT on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 8:14 AM (PST)

ghostbc2013cdMysterious doom metallers Ghost B.C. (or Ghost, as you still probably know them in Europe), premiered part one of their new documentary series called Papaganda.

Papaganda looks at the reign of frontman Papa Emeritus II and the future of the band. Director Greg Olliver had this to say:

“You can’t point a camera at Ghost without every frame of footage looking like heavy-metal gold. To work with a band that’s on a fast rise to fame and has a mysterious story which is currently unraveling requires an entirely different approach. Add in the anonymity of the group and the look that they have… and you suddenly have a whole lot to chew on as a director. The only downside is that I felt a bit silly on stage filming NOT wearing a robe and black mask.”

Filming for the series began earlier on the festival circuit and will continue through the year. Apparently a full-length documentary will follow after that.

Check out the Papaganda clip here.

Ghost B.C.’s new album just topped the Swedish charts

Posted by GageT on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 8:09 AM (PST)

ghostbc2013cdIn an oddly awesome turn of events, Ghost B.C.‘s new record, Infestissumam, has risen to the top of the Swedish music charts, according to the Swedish music-industry web site Musikindustrin.se, selling nearly five times as many copies as the number 2 spot, Miss Li’s Wolves. Apparently Sweden just can’t get enough of those lovable ghouls.

What makes this even better is the fact that four CD manufacturers initially just refused to print the CD because of some of the deluxe edition’s artwork. The manufacturers all objected to the Gustave Dore-inspired sacrilegious imagery, which apparently depicts something like a forest nymph orgy.

Ghost cover and release studio version of ABBA’s “I’m A Marionette”

Posted by SeanB on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 5:34 PM (PST)

Mysterious Swedish heavy metal group Ghost have released a studio recording of their cover version of ABBA’s “I’m A Marionette.”  It is being reported that the track actually features Dave Grohl on production and drums, but that hasn’t been confirmed.  Release is via Spotify and as the B-side on a limited 10-inch clear vinyl of the band’s new single, “Secular Haze.”

To listen to the song for yourself click right here.

Ghost are slated to unveil their sophomore album Infestissumam sometime in the spring 0f 2013. It will be released under the new label Loma Vista Recordings and produced by Grammy Award-winning Nick Raskulinecz.  One of the band’s Nameless Ghouls recently spoke with Decibel about the decision to cover ABBA:

“We are Swedish, and ABBA has always been a very, very strong part of our modern musical heritage. We all grew up with their music very present. Not only that — ABBA basically took a few hundred years of traditional Swedish music and made it into pop songs. I’m talking about folk music from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Anybody outside Scandinavia probably isn’t familiar with those tones or musical language. But one of the reasons ABBA broke through so enormously first in Sweden was probably because of their folk music influences. I think anyone from Scandinavia is easily infatuated with that sort of music, so ABBA has a deeper meaning to us, I think.”

Ghost sign major record contract

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 8:50 AM (PST)

Swedish satanic mystery metal group Ghost have been signed to Seven Four Entertainment, reportedly for an advance in the neighborhood of $750,000.  This is apparently a new label formed by ex-Warner Brothers exec Tom Whalley and is part of the Universal Republic family.  There’s not much info around about Seven Four and there’s a Myspace page for what looks to be a defunct hip-hop label that goes by the same name, so this may be their first signing.

Ghost recently wrapped up a North American tour where they opened for Mastodon and Opeth and no doubt earned quite a few new fans and probably some leverage with contract negotiations.

Random Metal Shit Monday: Heavy Metal Jesus

Posted by JDKleinhans on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 10:00 PM (PST)

A good Monday to all my fellow heathens and cretins out there and welcome to Random Metal Shit Monday. This is the place where you come to get your metal fix and laugh, scream, cry, punch away the dreariness that is the dreaded Monday.

Today’s randomness is in honor of the most honored and epic of liches, Jesus. No zombie Jesus here. He was a lich damnit! In honor of his lichness we bring you two videos of varying taste. One a piece of sludgy goodness that quotes from the New Testament and the other a statement done in the form of epic power metal.

Today’s RMSM is brought to you by the letter “L”, because JESUS WAS A FUCKING LICH!

Come get some!
