For Today reinforces my hatred for Christian metal.

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 9:25 AM (PST)

Sioux City metalcore band For Today recently found themselves in a dill of her pickle due to comments made by guitarist Mike Reynolds. Mike Reynolds went on twitter in response to Pastor Louie Giglio withdrawal from Obama’s inauguration ceremony and stated that “homosexuality is a sin” among some other Medieval things.  I am not gonna lie to you I never really figured that Christian metal would be responsible for bad press in the metal community but it looks like I was proven wrong.

I suppose you could file this under the “knew it would happen” category. Once powerhouse metalcore leaders, All That Remains now seem to be unable to fill their own shadow. Mediocre and catchy melody run rampant through this release, along with Phil’s vocals going even further away from say, The Weak Willed. Am I gripping to the edifice of a decadent past? Maybe, but they could at least fake a metal album, or do a concept pretending to be a metal band. Something, just not this.

Shadows Fall’s new album Fire From The Sky was released May 15, 2012 under Razor & Tie and is the follow up to 2009’s Retribution.

Singer Brian Fair recently commented on the release:

“‘Fire From The Sky’ is not a concept album by any means, but a few common themes do link these songs together. These days, the world seems to be spiraling out of control into a frantic state of confusion, corruption and chaos. It’s as if we are living under the shadow of an impending apocalypse. The songs on this album were inspired by this chaos and the struggle to find answers in these dark days.”
