Posted by GageT on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 6:36 AM (PST)

Slayer-SpotlightMore bad news for Slayer’s lineup. After guitarist Jeff Hanneman was sidelined for over a year because of his metal-as-fuck necrotic spider bite, yesterday the news broke that drummer Dave Lombardo is out of the band, at least for now. Citing money and an apparent disput with Kerry King, Lombardo released a statement on his Facebook page explaining the situation from his side. Check it out here.

Corrupt the young with this Slayer lullaby album.

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 6:00 AM (PST)

Slayer used to soothe me to sleep when I was completely suffering from booze induced nervous system collapse back in my overly stressed college days, but an album of Slayer lullabies? That’s crazy talk.

From the Press Release: “They said it couldn’t be done.  Some may have suggested it shouldn’t be done.  How on earth (or somewhere much hotter) could you possibly take the music of thrash metal kings Slayer and turn them into haunting yet soothing lullabies?  We could tell you the six hundred and sixty-six ways we did it, but you’ll just have to listen for yourself.”

Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star is proud to release “Lullaby Versions of Slayer” featuring lush instrumental versions of 12 classic thrash tracks. Fans can now share their love of metal with those little ears not quite ready for the amps cranked to 11.

Jägermeister has made a wise decision by featuring Kerry King in their new, and their first ever, television commercial.  Who can really be surprised as Slayer have headlined multiple Jägermeister tours in the past. ( I even got to work security at on of them, and it ruled)  Jägermeister was invented by a passionate hunter as a strong drink to toast achievements and seal bonds amongst strong men, so this commercial makes a lot of sense in that context.  It features an All-Pro Wide Receiver, World Champion Boxing Trainer, NASCAR Pit Crew Chief, Famed Street and Tattoo Artist, a Big Wave Surfer, a champion Bull Fighter, and of course Kerry Fucking King! (His middle name isn’t actually fucking in case anyone was confused.)

Michael Volke executive board member of Mast-Jägermeister SE had this to say about the campaign:

“Jägermeister has always been consumed socially. This product was originally developed for, and dedicated to, hunters that have deep connections to their craft and each other. The ‘Stronger Bond’ campaign triggers stories of this kinship and bonding from the brand’s deep history and highlights that bond amongst this exceptional group of men.”

The one and only Slayer have just released an update on the status of their guitarist Jeff Hanneman’s condition after being bitten by a necrotic spider over a year ago (most metal injury of all time by the way). Apparently he is still unable to tour with them at this time and Gary Holt of the legendary Bay Area thrash band Exodus will continue to fill in on this summer’s Mayhem Festival dates.

While this isn’t the worst news ever as Holt is amazing and has been doing a great job filling in, it’s pretty f’d how bad Hanneman’s injury actually was.  It sounds like he’s lucky to be alive.  Slayer have been working on and recording new material as well, so one has to wonder who will play on the finished album etc.

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 9:53 AM (PST)

Slayer logoIn a recent interview drummer Dave Lombardo of Slayer announced that although the band has written the lion share of a new album they will be releasing an EP prior to the full length release. The album will be a follow up to the 2011 World Painted Blood released via American Recordings. When asked when the new full length would be released Dave Lombardo stated:

“I don’t know, but we’re going to do a three or four-song EP to keep the fans pacified until we come out with the full-length record. Kind of like what we did with “Psycopathy Red,” which was like a two-song 45.”

Slayer singer comments on Metallica and Lou Reed collaboration

Posted by SeanB on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 9:49 AM (PST)

Slayer logoTom Araya of Slayer recently had some pretty interesting things to say about Metallica in an interview with Jenn Selby of The Quietus.

When asked about the collaboration between Metallica and Lou Reed he was quoted as saying:

“No, I haven’t listened to the album. I don’t want to. To me, it’s like, I hate to say this, but it’s trying too hard to be cool.”

Cheesy Valentine’s Day merchandise or not, you can always count on Slayer to tell it like it is and sound just like Slayer.

Slayer to give away condoms for Valentine’s day

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 8:42 PM (PST)

Slayer logoNothing says romance like Slayer.  Period. So it’s great to hear they’ve decided to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit.  How you may ask?  By giving away condoms of course!  Like most metal heads you probably pick your signifigant other based on whether or not they can recite every word to Angel of Death, so this is probably right up your alley.

The band’s webshop is apparently giving one custom Slayer condom away with the purchase of one of several select shirts.  So yes, you do have to buy something.  I mean it’s Valentine’s Day, did you really think you could get the coolest gift ever for free?

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 7:43 AM (PST)

SlayerThere’s good news today for Slayer fans everywhere, and really who’s not?  Artisan News recently caught up with guitarist Kerry King and asked him about the band’s future recording plans, and it looks like they may be getting in the studio sometime in March or April.

This is also really good news because it means that guitarist Jeff Hanneman has recovered from the flesh eating bacterial infection he got from a spider bite last year.  A.K.A the most metal thing that could possibly happen if you play guitar for Slayer.

Click here to read comments from Mr. King.

This will be the bands twelfth studio album, and first since 2009′s World Painted Blood which released on American Recordings.

It was reported last night by The Gauntlet, that injured Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman appeared on stage with Slayer during the band’s set at the “Big 4” concert in Indio, California. After Slayer’s regular set had ended, Hanneman got on stage to perform “South of Heaven” and “Angel of Death” with the rest of the band. Hanneman has been out for the past few months due to a spider bite  which left him with a crippling skin disease. Slayer decided to go on with their current tour as scheduled with the addition of Gary Holt, filling in for Hanneman. So far there have been no further updates on Hanneman’s condition, so stay tuned to MetalRiot for more news.

In a press release today, Kerry King has proclaimed that long time heavy metal outfit Slayer is going to focus more on Christian values.  He states:

“Greetings fans and loved ones across the world. Have you heard the news? He is risen. He, being my lord and savior Jesus Christ. I have repented my evil ways and found the light. After years of doing the bidding of the dark one, I have ultimately realized I was living an empty life. Jesus has saved me and the band, who has also joined me in spreading the good word.

From here on, we will no longer be playing songs like, “Angel of Death,” “Dead Skin Mask,” or “Mandatory Suicide.” Also, we are immediately beginning writing a new album reflecting our new found hope and love. The album will have very Christian values, and with God’s will, we can cleanse ourselves from the filth we lived in for thirty years. In order to raise awareness of His glory, I have adopted to monicker of Kerry “Christ Is” King. I can only hope to be as He was, but I will carry His name with me forever. God loves you all.”

Just Added: Slayer to Headline MetalCamp Festival

Posted by jillettinger on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:59 PM (PST)

The latest announcement from the MetalCamp HQ is the addition of Slayer. Call them thrash gods or just call them Slayer, but call their names at the festival main stage this summer.

Struggling with a lineup shift as Slayer’s guitarist Jeff Hanneman had to excuse himself from current tour dates due to the most metal disease ever–necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh eating infection. Exodus’s Gary Holt will be filling in for now. No word on whether Jeff Hanneman will return by MetalCamp.

MetalCamp runs from July 11 – 16, 2011 in Tolmin, Slovenia.
