System of a Down confirm headline slot at Rock at Rio

Posted by jessepac on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 9:39 AM (PST)

After announcing a string of comeback dates in the United States, LA’s System of a Down is making the biggest splash in South America where they will be headlining Rock in Rio alongside Guns n’ Roses.

The band left a short and sweet message for their fans concerning the booking:

“South America, we look forward to seeing all of you soon!”

Rock in Rio is one of the largest music festivals in the world and has housed some of the greatest heavy metal acts of all time, including a Iron Maiden concert considered to be one of their best. This year features a diverse line up, with Metallica and SOAD being joined by non-metal acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shakira, Coldplay, and even Sir Elton John.

The band announced their European tour this past November saying: “We are excited to announce that System will be playing some dates together in 2011. We also want to thank you for your loyalty and support, not only to System Of A Down, but to all of our solo efforts as well. We have no master plan of sorts – we are playing these shows simply because we want to play together again as a band and for you, our amazing fans.”

No reports yet on a follow up to 2005′s “Hypnotize/Mezmerize” dual disc from Columbia Records.
