Tickets go on sale October 19th for 2018’s Roadburn! The line-up is still developing but some amazing stuff has been announced so far, as usual for this esteemed fest. This year we are especially excited about Uniform, Cult of Luna with Julie Christmas, Weedeater and Maggot Heart but there is plenty for (almost) everyone who has tastes outside of the mainstream. Check it out HERE.
Add to My RadarOur friend Ignacio Orellana over at ArmyOfOnetv.com caught Goatwhore and Venom Inc. (all ex-Venom members who pretty much smoke Cronut’s Venom at this point) performing impressively surly sets to the ravenous Gramercy Theater crowd a few nights back in NYC and was chill enough to send some of the shots with us over here at the Riot of all things METAL.
Check out some highlighted shots BELOW.

TRIPTYKON have made the following statement announcing upcoming festival appearances and their search for a new drummer:
“We feel very honoured to have been invited to play Spain’s Leyendas del Rock and Germany’s Party.San festivals this August. Both festivals hold a unique significance for Triptykon: our concert at Leyendas del Rock will mark the first time Triptykon will play in Spain, fulfilling a desire we have had for quite some time.
The return to Party.San is equally important for us. Triptykon’s first appearance at the festival, in August of 2011, was heavily marred by the unexpected shutdown of the main stage due to storm damage, and by a number of local organizational issues. Party.San is a truly extraordinary festival in our eyes, and we feel privileged and delighted to be given the opportunity to finally honour it with a proper concert.
But these two festivals are significant to us for yet another, far more personal reason. These will be the final concerts we will play with our drummer, Norman Lonhard.
Norman joined Triptykon in December of 2008, thereby completing the freshly formed band. He recorded two acclaimed albums, an EP, and a single with the group, appeared in all of Triptykon’s video clips, and performed uncounted concerts around the globe with us.
We are proud of Triptykon’s exceedingly stable line-up, not least in light of some of the events that transpired in Triptykon’s predecessor, Celtic Frost. It reflects Triptykon’s internal spirit of harmony that this first departure of a member of the group occurs in true friendship and deep mutual respect. After eight and a half years of invoking supreme darkness with Triptykon onstage and in the studio, Norman has indicated his desire to explore different musical avenues in the future. It is a wish we fully understand, of course, but also one we bemoan on a personal level.
We all wish Norman the very best for any and all of his future endeavours. He will forever remain one of us.
Triptykon is thus now looking for a new drummer, before continuing work on the group’s third album and returning to the world’s stages. We are taking the required technical capabilities for granted, and we are completely open with regard to age and female and male applicants. Of decisive importance to us, however, are uniqueness, an unrestricted musical horizon, creativity, artistic courage, a stable and professional personality, and an appearance that reflects the group’s music and unique historic background.

Add to My RadarMighty Asphyx are treating fans to a celebration of three decades of Netherlands extreme metal.
In addition to the previously announced and sold out anniversary show at the Turock venue in Essen, Germany on Saturday, November 18, 2017, ASPHYX have now announced a second (matinee) show in the same location for the day after, Sunday, November 19, 2017. These two “30 Year Anniversary” concerts will not only be supported by metal comrades Pentacle and Soulburn, but also feature long ASPHYX sets, special merchandise and Meet & Greet opportunities with former band members like Eric Daniels, Bob Bagchus, Wannes Gubbels, Ronnie van der Wey, Roel Sanders or Sander van Hoof.
Tickets go on sale today and will sell out quickly, hurry and reserve yours now here! Further details can also be found directly on the venue’s website: http://www.turock.de.
ASPHYX have checked in with the following message about the anniversary shows:
“Salutations Asphyxians! Due to the unexpected, rapid sell out of our 30 years anniversary show in Turock, Essen, Germany on November 18th, for which our massive gratitude, we decided for those who could not obtain a ticket, to do an extra show the very next day. So, Sunday the 19th of November 2017. Same bill, same set, same goodies, same price. Just a little earlier, doors open at 15.00 hours, so everybody can get back to work on time the next day. Cheerz and see you all in November!”
November 17, 2017 will also mark the long overdue release date for a special and limited anniversary version of ASPHYX’s classic debut album, “The Rack”, as a double-album, containing both the original album as well as a special bonus version of the entire album sequence covered by friends and peers of the group. More details and formats of this project will be unveiled soon, so stay tuned!
ASPHYX‘s most recent effort, “Incoming Death”, was released worldwide last September via the band’s longtime label Century Media Records. It was once again mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studio and entered the official sales charts in various European countries upon release as follows: Germany: # 30, Switzerland: # 67 and Belgium (Wallonia): # 78.

Add to My RadarI like all of Mastodon’s releases for various reasons, but Emperor Of Sand is certainly the best one since Crack The Skye, IMO. Even if you don’t like all the material or more melodic vocals, the guitar solos on this album in particular are fucking earth scorching. Anyhow, the band slogged through a fun version of “Show Yourself” last night and you can’t deny the song is catchy as heck. Check the footage out HERE.
Add to My RadarWe have not had any photos for a little bit from our beloved butter muffin/camera pro Matt Slater (also of the band Beneath The Remains), as he has been chillin’ and here and there doing some stuff for the cool Outsider Magazine. Today Slater Master Hate returns to the Metal Riot fold with some cool shots of Sweden’s reigning melodic spooky gang Ghost from their recent off night from Iron Maiden tour headlining stop in Albany, NY. I can imagine it was a hell of a great show in such a good venue to see Ghost and Zombi.

The initial line up for Basilica Hudson‘s Basilica SoundScape 2017 shows the gem of a little festival continuing to be insanely well curated and offering some of the best in envelope pushing performers every year since inception.
Basilica SoundScape 2017 will feature a wide array of performers, writers, and visual artists whose work spans many different genres, mediums and approaches. More participants will be announced in the coming months, and the initial lineup can be viewed in full below.
Very stoked for the bulk of performers announced so far. Been jamming Zola Jesus’ old album The Spoils a lot of late and serpentwithfeet is one of the most next level performers – with a scary potent voice – I have heard in years.
Meltasia announced an as to be expected doozy ass line up today (with a few holes left to fill). Mungo Jerry and Midnight on the same weekend? Say no more. I will def try to be there to see Roky’s set and of course mighty Tower, but there is plenty of other juicy radness to go around. Be nice to the goats.
More info BELOW.
Add to My RadarSeether and Letters From The Fire just rocked Upstate Concert Hall in mid May and our own Catharina Christiana was there to capture some of the energy with her camera. Check the shots out BELOW.
Add to My RadarWell, seems weird to be posting about music when the GOP just voted to make rape a pre-existing condition, but I guess cheer and motivation in the form of art is always important. I’m drinking tea and listening to “Linchpin” from Fear Factory and hoping everyone out there doesn’t give up the fight.
Anyway, some good news for rock and metal lovers. Mastodon have been added to the already insanely dope Psycho Las Vegas bill this year. King Diamond is doing classic Abigail entirely, Laura from Kylesa is unveiling a set of herself and special guests, you’ve got up and coming heralded as the next generation of top quality acts like Gatecreeper, Oathbreaker, Chelsea Wolfe and Inter Arma, varied styles of experimental metal from USNEA to Dark Castle plus a lot of my personal faves in the scene like Jex Thoth, Conan, Blood Ceremony and even the Cult of Luna collaboration with Julie Christmas!
Then you also have legacy bands like Diamond Head, Melvins, Swans, Carcass, Corrosion Of Conformity, Magma, Cirith Ungol. I mean, Jesus Christ!
Damn, yo. The event is set to take place from August 18th through August 20th, 2017 with a pre-party August 17th at the Hard Rock Hotel And Casino Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada.
