Chuck Wright, longtime member of Quiet Riot (until he recently stepped down), has released a timely and dope video for his Chuck Wright’s Sheltering Sky project. Wright has teamed up with one of the best modern vocalists and an array of talent to deliver this first video and track at a time America needs it:

The first single is a hard-rocking, intense interpretation of Björk’s 1995 hit “Army of Me” and is accompanied by a video that represents Wright’s exploration into disorder and parallels with the recent chaotic state of world affairs. The visuals include a 3D animation of an “army” of Ruth Bader Ginsburgs, the late Supreme Court Justice, feminist icon, and steadfast advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. “I chose to recognize the late Justice Ginsburg in this video as she was such a formidable presence on and off the bench. She challenged the status quo knocking down legal obstacles to women’s equality and inspired an army of believers.”

The track “Army Of Me” features several of Wright’s musical peers including the late Pat Torpey (Mr. Big) on drums, guitarist Lanny Cordola (House of Lords), and Sven Martin (Jonathan Davis Band) on keyboards along with songstress Whitney Tai, the recent “Best Vocalist” winner at The Intercontinental Music Awards.

The full-length album from Chuck Wright’s Sheltering Sky, coming in 2022, features over 30 guest performers including members of Mr. Big, Skid Row, Tesla, Dream Theater, Great White, Asia, Jefferson Starship, acclaimed solo artists Allen Hinds, Toshi Yanagi, and many others. Wright is finally stepping out on his own with a wide range of genres, from Jazz Fusion, Prog, Funk to in-your-face Hard Rock, which was in itself one of the things that led him to want to forge his own way and create this unique collection of songs within his “Sheltering Sky” project.

BESVÄRJELSEN cover AC/DC and thus prove life is good

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 6:41 PM (PST)

BESVÄRJELSEN from Sweden fuckin’ bring the vibes so hard and are simply one of the coolest bands in the modern world. Today they have seriously tipped the coolness scales even further in their favor with a solid take on a stone cold classic, “Back In Black.”

This cover is from the forthcoming MER Redux Series installment “Back in Black [Redux]. The record also features fuckin’ Red Fang, Supersuckers (!!), Heavy Temple, Earthride, Whores. and more!

Lea Amling Alazam comments: “A boyfriend gave me a ‘Let There Be Rock’ CD when I was 15 years old and I got immediately hooked”, writes the singer. “I longed to see AC/DC live, and in 2009 they were set to play in Stockholm. I sat on my skateboard outside the ticket venue for 12 hours in the shittiest weather just to get a ticket. The show was amazing, one of the best evenings in my life. Front row headbanger! When I found out that we were going to cover ‘Back in Black’, I wanted to cry, both happy and sad tears. Such an iconic, amazing rock song, and I’ve ruined it many times at karaoke. The thought of having to record it and not living up to… well, how do you even do it? I wanted to honour Brian’s bluesy vocal with a rusty stoned vibe and yeah, I don’t know, it turned out freakin’ great!”

REVOLVER streams ‘Return Of The California Takeover’

Stream The Return Of The California Takeover HERE.

Revolver Magazine is hosting an exclusive stream of The Return Of The California Takeover, the new live LP from EARTH CRISIS, SNAPCASE, and STRIFE, in advance of the LP’s release this Friday via WAR Records.

In February of 2020, EARTH CRISIS, SNAPCASE, and STRIFE joined forces in Los Angeles for The Return Of The California Takeover; two shows paying homage to The California Takeover… Live, the classic live album featuring all three bands. Released on Victory Records in 1996, The California Takeover… Live is considered by many fans of the genre as one of the all-time best live hardcore records.

WAR Records is proud to release the audio companion to the 2020 event, with the retail version of The Return Of The California Takeover. The LP finds EARTH CRISIS, SNAPCASE, and STRIFE all in fighting form, joining forces to play sets filled with the songs that helped define 1990s hardcore. The Return Of The California Takeover is a sonic document to a very special night shared by all those in attendance.

Recorded live at the Teragram Ballroom on February 23rd, 2020, The Return Of The California Takeover was produced by Aaron Bruno of Awolnation along with Eric Stenman (Thrice, Deftones, Will Haven) co-producing, engineering, and mixing. The record was mastered by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Cavalera Conspiracy) and features artwork by Linas Garsys.

EARTH CRISIS guitarist Scott Crouse offers, “I’m really glad we were all able to get together again and give the younger folks an opportunity to see something they missed out on, and also the older people the chance to relive the good old days. The live recording really turned out great. I really think it properly captures the vibe of that night.”

SNAPCASE vocalist Daryl Taberski reveals, “The California Takeover is more than just a snapshot of ‘90s hardcore, it brings out the best in each of our bands and also our audience as well. There are a lot of laughs and camaraderie when our three bands get together, but more importantly we spark an increased energy on stage for each other.”

STRIFE guitarist Andrew Kline writes, “I am so glad that the tape was rolling, and that we were able to capture the energy and positivity of that night. The Return of The California Takeover shows were not about living in the past, but rather bringing the past full circle to the present… Having younger bands like Magnitude and Hesitation Wounds on the bill really solidified the fact that the style of hardcore that we play is still important and still running through the veins of the new generation of hardcore kids…”

The feature at Revolver adds, “In 1996, Victory Records released a soon-to-be iconic live album called The California Takeover, which featured recordings from a three-band bill in L.A. that boasted EARTH CRISIS, SNAPCASE, and STRIFE — three of the most popular and influential hardcore bands of the Nineties. The live LP took on a legendary status in the halls of hardcore, and in February 2020, it happened again. Dubbed The Return of the California Takeover, those three pillars of metallic hardcore teamed up at the Teragram Ballroom in L.A. for a night that honored their legacies and proved that all three of them still got it.”

Stream the entire The Return Of The California Takeover LP featuring EARTH CRISIS, SNAPCASE, and STRIFE early only through Revolver Magazine RIGHT HERE.

WAR Records will release The Return Of The California Takeover this Friday, November 19th, on LP, CD, and digital formats. The vinyl will be available in four variants: 300 color-in-color pressed as band exclusives, 400 on olive green available through RevHQ, BrooklynVegan, Hardtimes, Revolver, Coretex, and more, and two WAR Records exclusive pressings, with 100 on glow in the dark wax with Japanese OBI Strip and 200 tricolor California Flag pressing, all including a 24”x36” poster.

Find preorders for all formats now at the WAR Records webshop RIGHT HERE.

After their postponement over the Summer, the rescheduled California Takeover East Coast dates have been issued, rebooking the shows for May of 2022, when EARTH CRISIS, SNAPCASE, and STRIFE will bring the action to Buffalo, New York on May 13th, followed by two shows in Philly on May 14th and 15th.

Hope Con are easily one of my top hardcore faves ever and it was a super highlight of my life in punk to share a bill with them once a long ass time ago. Every slice of their caustic catalogue is essential but Death Knows Your Name really holds a vaunted place in the bleak heart of many a fan. From the performances to the songwriting, tones and energy plus the intense production, it is all there in your face. There is never a time I don’t hear it and get pumped.

Now, a remastered edition arrives with an extra song and revamped packaging via Deathwish Inc. on January 14!

Originally released in 2006, Death Knows Your Name is the landmark third full-length album from the legendary Boston band The Hope Conspiracy.  Recorded by Kurt Ballou at God City Studios, the record is a powerful chapter in the band’s recorded legacy. From the haunting first notes of “They Know Not” to the Earth shaking “Stolen Days,” the unrelenting rage of the album is undeniable. From musicianship to presentation, Death Knows Your Name still stands as a high watermark for the genre.

Now, Death Knows Your Name  is receiving the deluxe treatment.  Featuring  the classic eleven-song album along with a bonus track “Eurohell” which— until now— was only previously available on their “Hang Your Cross” EP (now out of press).

The physical packaging for Death Knows Your Name has also been revamped, featuring a special “Black on Black” printing of Aaron Horkey’s incredible artwork for the release.

Pre-order Death Knows Your Name (Deluxe) here ahead of the January 14th, 2022 release date and visit The Hope Conspiracy online here.

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 5:07 AM (PST)

The Berlin-based noise rock-meets-hard rock trio MAGGOT HEART are on a roll right now. They recently had two original songs featured in the critically acclaimed Swedish crime drama series Dough, and came out with some of their best work to date on the split EP with OKKULTOKRATI in September. Next month they open up for AMYL & THE SNIFFERS, as well as headline their own Berlin show before heading out on the first leg of their “Zero Hour Tour” in February 2022 – bringing with them the Danish act Offermose as support. All dates below, pre-sale tickets on sale here.

Rolo Tomassi have released a thrilling new song “Drip”. Loving the minute and a half long headfuck of an intense build up before things get even MORE cacophonous. Thank fuck this record drops in 2022 cuz my year end list is already cluttered af and trimming it any further to fit something else new is probably gonna be hell on wheels as it is, haha.

Worldwide pre-orders for their 6th studio album Where Myth Becomes Memory are live now from becomesmemory.com

California heavyweights No Bragging Rights have released a heroic new song about addiction called “Walking Blind”. Love the melodic punk meets complex Shai Hulud vibes of this one and the vocal performances are exceptional with energy, soul and emotion in every line.

Vocalist Mike Perez comments to Lambgoat: “Getting help for addiction is extremely difficult even when the person is sincere in their attempts to get clean. The song talks about addiction and how you grab at anything to fill the void as you are spiralling. The hope is to fully surrender and to be sincere in your efforts to get help.”

I loved the band SIERRA and am stoked for their fresh start of sorts as WILLOWATER. While the band are currently seeking a drummer, they have completed an EP called Loyal and have a lot of plans for the road ahead of them.

“They’re all leftover Sierra tunes, minus Ultimatum, that we wanted to make sure got completed. Our pandemic project,” Jason Taylor tells me.

Today the band announced via Facebook that Loyal is out Dec 3rd and the first single will be out later this week.

Artwork for the EP is by @10.years.time.

I am loving the art, which sort of gives me Pink Floyd vibes. Really excited to see the wheels start turning for the Willowater machine. Stay tuned!

CYNIC preview “Diamond Light Body”

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 6:49 AM (PST)

Paul Masdival’s CYNIC releases Ascension Codes on November 26th and the progressive rock community is awaiting it eagerly (seriously, the vinyl looks like it is going to be lovely). The band is now sharing a preview and video teaser for the track “Diamond Light Body,” featuring artwork by visionary artists, Martina Hoffmann and Robert Venosa. Design and animations by Randy Gaul and Jonatan Martinez (the latter worked with Masvidal on the Mythical Human Vessel trilogy). The full track is available on their Bandcamp to hear, incidentally.

“Diamond Light Body is a song that emerges from the ashes like a phoenix” says Paul Masvidal, Cynic founder.

Also, ICYMI: Masvidal recently shared a touching tribute to late bassist Sean Malone, who died on December 7, 2020. To commemorate Malone’s legacy, CYNIC has released a never-before-heard recorded performance of the song “Integral,” in which Malone performs fretless bass.  “Integral” was originally released as a solo guitar and vocal track on Cynic’s Re-Traced EP. The emotional tribute can be found at THIS LOCATION.

As an act of support, CYNIC is inviting fans to donate as you wish for the “Integral” song download, which comes with a guitar/bass transcription of the song and an instrumental (no bass mix) to play along with. 50 percent of proceeds will be shared with suicide prevention organizations: To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) and The Trevor Project. The remaining will go towards funding a documentary about the lives and artistry of Sean Malone and Sean Reinert.

Awesome tour news today as KsE announce The Atonement Tour updates. I was lucky to briefly meet Jesse and his partner recently and have been a supporter a long time, and the band just continue to prove they are a cornerstone of the meaningful modern metal movement.

The Atonement Tour makes its return with the same powerful lineup, which includes Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s August Burns Red as main support and Light the Torch as the opening act. As fans are more than well aware, LTT frontman Howard Jones served as KsE’s singer from 2002 through 2012.

This tour package was originally planned for Spring 2020 but was ultimately postponed two dates into the original run due to the global shutdown that was a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will now include all of the rescheduled dates as well as several new locations across the U.S.

The long wait is finally over,” says KsE singer Jesse Leach. “We worked very hard to carefully piece this tour back together properly. After the tour was shut down two days in when it started in 2020, we are bringing it back! We are honored and stoked to have August Burns Red and Howard Jones and the boys in Light the Torch along to make this an ‘all killer, no filler’ line up.

Jones echoes the sentiment, saying, “FINALLY! We get to pick up where we left off on the Atonement tour with KsE and ABR! We couldn’t be more excited to resume with the same lineup, and additional dates have been added so don’t miss this noisy party. Now, stop reading this and get your tickets. GO! This will be a tour to remember and you do not want to miss it!

Both re-issues will be available on limited coloured 180g vinyl variants with new vinyl mastering (+ Bonus CD), in the CD format and as digital albums. The wait is over and we are finally coming back to North America! We are super excited to get over and see our incredible American and Canadian fans after this long.
