Amon Amarth Announce New Album Title, Track Listing, and Artwork

Posted by JDKleinhans on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 9:34 AM (PST)

Sweden’s epic death metal Vikings Amon Amarth are set to unleash their eighth studio release “Surtur Rising” upon the metalheads of the world. The album derives its title in tribute to Surtur, leader of the fire giants of Muspelheim (“flame land”) and the oldest being in the nine worlds of Norse mythology.

One of the most anticipated albums of 2011 features 10 tracks of sword-wielding, fist-pumping, hyper climactic battle anthems. “Surtur Rising”, the follow up to 2008’s monolithic “Twilight Of The Thunder God”, was recorded at Fascination Street Studios Örebro, Sweden with Jens Bogren and will be released in North America on March 29, 2011 via Metal Blade Records. The strikingly brutal cover art was created by Tom Thiel. Click here to check out the full track listing.

Swedish death metal lords Amon Amarth will drop their eighth studio album “Surtur Rising” in spring 2011 from Metal Blade. This highly anticipated release follows 2008’s “Twilight of the Thunder God,” which landed the #7 spot in Revolver Magazine’s Top 20 Albums of 2008 and what Metal Sucks called “[a] bottomless gauntlet of riffs that the band endlessly takes gargantuan swigs from, sounding both lush and emotive as well as skull crushingly heavy… every goddamn one is a chest-beating anthem.” Outburn declared how ‘Twilight of the Thunder God’ “will render you nothing short of ecstatic” and Time Out New York noted that “Amon Amarth plays some of the most unabashedly epic metal you’re likely to find these days.”
