Gary Holt To Fill Guest Spot with Slayer

Posted by Christine on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 8:09 PM (PST)

Slayer logoGary Holt of Exodus will be temporarily filling in for guitarist Jeff Hanneman during Slayer‘s upcoming tour dates. He will immediately join Slayer members Kerry King, Tom Araya and Dave Lombardo on their five-date Australian Soundwave Festival that begins February 26.

Gary Holt offers the following comments about his upcoming stint as touring guitarist for one of metal’s most venerated bands:

“How can I put into words how excited I am to have been asked to play with Slayer? Hard to describe for sure. Legendary band, check. Old friends since the birth of thrash metal. Check. Get to play “Angel Of Death” live, priceless! I’ll do my best to live up to the standard they’ve set for so many years, while we all wish Jeff a speedy return to health and his rightful place in Slayer.”

Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman is currently recuperating at home after emergency surgery on his right arm after contracting a serious infection, possibly caused by a spider bite. He is expected to make a full recovery and will return to the Slayer line-up as soon as he has fully recovered.

Slayer receives fifth Grammy nomination for “World Painted Blood”

Posted by Lucas Riot on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 10:24 PM (PST)

Slayer logoA harrowing “end of the world” song, “World Painted Blood,” the title track from Slayer‘s most recent release, has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of “Best Metal Performance.” This is the band’s fifth Grammy nomination, with the band having taken home the prize twice, first for “Eyes of the Insane” in 2006, and then again with “Final Six” in 2007, both in the “Best Metal Performance” category.

“I admit, I’m excited and kind of surprised,” said Slayer’s bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, who co-wrote (with guitarist Jeff Hanneman) “World Painted Blood.” “To have Slayer’s music recognized by an organization as traditional as the Grammys – five times now – is like that gold star that someone puts up by your name. It’s unexpected, but it’s cool.”

The “World Painted Blood” nomination caps off one of the band’s most challenging yet successful years of its career. Beginning with Araya’s successful neck surgery that now has him pain-free, Slayer went on to co-headline (with Megadeth) the “Canadian” and “American Carnage” tours, a UK/European headline dates, the historic summer series of “Big Four” Sonisphere European concerts with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax, and the recently completed “Jagermeister Fall Music Tour” that Slayer co-headlined with Megadeth and featured Anthrax.
