Music Video: Nothnegal – “Sins of Our Creations”

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 7:29 AM (PST)

Maldivian melodic death metal band Nothnegal have released a music video for the song “Sins of Our Creations.”  The song comes from the band’s debut full length album Decadence which was released early this year on Season of Mist.

You can check out the video by clicking here.

Nothnegal guitarist Hilarl has commented on the album earlier in the year:

“‘Decadence’ is NOTHNEGAL’s first official studio release and the first release featuring the current lineup, with Fufu handling both the guitar and vocal duties, Marco on keyboards and Kevin on drums.

“The writing process of ‘Decadence’ began in summer 2010 and has been quite a challenge for us as we have taken time to do a lot of experimentation on the sound shifting more towards thrash and progressive metal with industrial elements making it entirely different from the sound we had on our 2009 four-track demo, ‘Antidote Of Realism’. With a completely new and original sound and attitude we feel like we starting again from scratch as we believe Nothnegal have finally discovered its sound with ‘Decadence’.”

So apparently Ismail El-Weshahy, a lawyer for the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, has filed a complaint with Egypt’s Interior Ministry against the cultural center El-Sawy Culture Wheel because they hosted a heavy metal show on August 31 where, “satanist rituals were held.”  Huhuh…cool. So what, were they like sacrificing goats and stuff? Oh no. Way worse, they were wearing black t-shirts and dancing!!!  Whoa, seems like nothing right?  Wrong, the club at least should probably be a bit worried.  Egypt has a bit of a history of hating metalheads.  They jailed about 100 of them, some for weeks, 15 years ago claiming they belonged to some kind of satanic sex and drug cult. (this has me thinking of starting one so if anyone wants in let me know)

The center has denied any satanic activity and claims the only violations they had were things like people smoking, and that they dealt with it.  Egyptian metal musician Wael Osama commented to Ahram Online on El-Weshahy’s allegations:

“El-Weshahy made grave legal accusations against the metal bands. We should be concerned about the reactions of the public. After all, we recently saw what happened to the young man who was walking with his fiancé in Suez and was killed by radical Islamists.  I tried to use the media available to me to explain the metal subculture to the people of Egypt.  I feel sympathy for this lawyer, since he may not be familiar with the metal subculture, and therefore may find it strange to see young people headbanging and wearing black.”

The track appears on our newly released 15-year anniversary CD, ’15 Years Of Exaggerated Torment’. This song was recorded along with OffBeat studio’s sound engineer Anders Eriksson in January 2012.”

Music Video: Vision Of Disorder – “Set To Fail”

Posted by SeanB on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 9:23 AM (PST)

Legendary New York hardcore band Vision Of Disorder have released a music video for the song “Set To Fail.”  The song comes from their forthcoming September 18, 2012 Candlelight Records release called The Cursed Remain Cursed.  This will be the band’s first release in more than ten years and their first on Candlelight.

You can find the video by clicking right here.  You can find their first single, called “Loveless,” streaming right here.

Recently, guitarist Matt Baumbach and frontman Tim Williams had the following to say(respectively) about “Set To Fail:”

“’Set To Fail’ is a song that was literally finished the day before we went into the studio. [Mike] Kennedy showed up with this insane riff and it all came together very fast. This record is crazy in that some songs took three years and others took three days. It’s by far one of our strongest tracks ever in my opinion and its gonna be insane live.”

“Set To Fail” was the last song to come together for The Cursed Remain Cursed writing sessions. When the track was played back over the studio speakers it was clear from the first thirty seconds we had a monster on our hands. The track represented everything VOD was, is and will be. All the elements and chaos VOD has to offer is within the track. When our friend Kirk Farrington approached us for a video shoot there was no doubt in our minds that this song would be it. Lyrically, the utmost honest and venomous track on the record, coming from a journey through the several levels of a personal hell so deep, the even the sun could cast no shadows.”

Summer Slaughter tour delayed by gun scare

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 7:42 AM (PST)

Yesterday’s leg of the Summer Slaughter tour in Tampa, FL at the Ritz Ybor was delayed due to a gun scare. Apparently a girl overheard two guys saying that someone was going to start killing people during the upcoming Job for a Cowboy set and everyone was evacuated. The long story short is that everyone was evacuated while the cops went through the place and found nothing so they let everyone back in after about an hour. You can read the details here. The article is worth a once over if only for this description of the metal heads in attendance as “the black-shrouded concertgoers, many of them wearing T-shirts featuring such bands as Goatwhore or bearing such world views as “Living Hell.”
