Trollfest begin recording a new album.

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 9:46 AM (PST)

TrollfestNorwegian folk metal band Trollfest have begun recording a new album. The as of yet untitled album will be a follow-up to the bands 2012 release Brumlebassen and there is no word yet on the release date. The album will be recorded at Endre Kirkesola’s Dub Studio in Oslo and is set for release via NoiseArt Records.

The band stated the following about the album: “We will record eleven metal tracks and we also have a couple of acoustic songs up our sleeves, but at this stage obviously we are not sure which ones will make it onto the album. We will, however, be taking a slightly different musical direction with this album. The sound will undoubtedly be Trollfest, but it will vary from our last two releases. We will also be using a different studio this time. We have been more than happy with the Strand Studio who did an amazing job on ‘En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral’ and ‘Brumlebassen’, but we just wanted to get a different sound to match our new musical direction so we decided to use Endre Kirkesola’s Dub Studio in Oslo”

Finntroll begins recording new album

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 9:23 AM (PST)

Finnish folk metal band Finntroll, whom many of you man know as actually being fronted by a troll at one point, have announced that they have begun recording their 6th album at Sonic Pump Studio in Helsinki. The as of yet untitled album will be a follow up to the bands 2010 album Nifelvind and will be released by Century Media in late March of 2013.

You can listen to a demo of the upcoming album here.

The band made the following comments regarding the upcoming album:
“Combining our trademark sound with even more influences from non- traditional genres in metal music, we have created 11 songs which show you everything we want to offer. And boy, wasn’t that one of the hardest tasks for some time. After all, how do you keep your sound fresh, yet familiar, after 6 albums and 15 years?

At some point, we were afraid that the songs are not melodic enough. Then we started to fear they became too melodic. Then we let the songs rest for a while and molded them more in a way that the non-melodic stuff got something to hum with, and the cheesy pop songs were arranged more stripped and aggressive. We were confident, yet sometimes scared what will people think of the stuff we’ve been doing so hard. What if they hate it? That would be fine, but if they would hate it because the material was uninspiring, boring and done-to-death, that would be a huge disappointment. So, we kept pushing and tried to keep it fresh all the time, while still having the ‘this has to be Finntroll because no other band sounds this insane’ – grinning going on.”

Album Review: Finsterforst – Rastlos

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 3:57 PM (PST)

Germany’s Finsterforst return with their patented “Black Forest Metal” on the epic, ass kicking RASTLOS (“Restless”). This band is for any pagan metal loving music fan. Their sound is sure to stir wanderlust in the heart and appeals to anyone who has an overactive imagination. Dark and vast yet soaring in scope, these songs cover a wide terrain. Corny as it sounds, it’s really like a dream journey into a lost forest of yesterdays.

Harsh black metal vocals collide with melodic choral sections, accordion, chugging metal rhythms and ambient sections. It all combines into a hypnotic and fully engrossing experience that will appeal to metal fans worldwide. Hopefully this band gets a big bump from this excellent Napalm Records release, because they clearly put a lot of work into RASTLOS and deserve it. When “Ein Lichtschein” finally explodes into black metal fury and then accordion somehow works on top of the established darkness, you will swear this band is a bunch of geniuses. This is bold music that takes risks yet they pay off and also the band are very true to form in maintaining a bedrock of traditional metal influences as well.
