Gamma Ray get “Hellbent” in new lyric video

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 8:38 PM (PST)

The perpetrators at Revolver are pleased to premiere the lyric video for “Hellbent,” from German power metal icons, GAMMA RAY. The new tune comes by way of the band’s long-anticipated new full-length, Empire Of The Undead, set for release this Spring.

A record that almost wasn’t, Empire Of The Undead was composed throughout 2013 with Eike Freese (Dark Age) at the mixing desk alongside bassist/co-writer, Dirk Schlächter, and was nearing completion before Hammer Studios, their home, rehearsal space, and meeting point for many metal bands throughout Germany, had burned down leaving much of its contents in ruins. Fortunately, the Empire Of The Undead masters managed to make it through unscathed.

“If this could not stop us, nothing ever will,” joked light-hearted GAMMA RAY vocalist Kai Hansen, adding that, “We got rid of a lot of shit that we gathered there. Unfortunately, a lot of good equipment as well. Anyhow, we look towards the future, we saved the production and we can continue now in this new place.”

Sample triumphant new teaser track, “Hellbent,” now playing at Revolver at THIS LOCATION.

Empire Of The Undead will be released in North America on CD, LP and digitally via Armoury Records in conjunction with earMusic on April 15, 2014.

Ben Varon, guitarist and main songwriter, said of the track:

“‘Fallen Leaves & Dead Sparrows’ is a concept album, and ‘If Not Here, Where?’ sits right in the middle of the album and the story, marking a turning point in the protagonist’s journey. We wanted the first taster to really represent the whole album.”

Iced Earth begin mixing new album “Plagues of Babylon”

Posted by GageT on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 8:20 AM (PST)

Iced_Earth_2012Power metallers Iced Earth have begun mixing on their new record Plagues of Babylon, set for a January 2014 release via Century Media.

In an interview with Metal4 magazine at Rockharz festival in Germany, frontman Jon Schaffer said about the record: “It’s a bit of a different thing for us, because it’s half of a concept and the other half [isn’t]. Musically, I think it’s just another step in the right direction. It’s really heavy, it’s very melodic. It has a really epic feeling. Even though there isn’t, like, a monster, long epic track, the overall feel of the songs is very epic. I mean, there’s no ‘Dante’s Inferno’ or ‘Gettysburg’ or the ‘Something Wicked’ trilogy or something like that on here, but I’m really happy with it.

Firewind announce “Apotheosis – Live 2012” with trailer

Posted by GageT on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 7:03 AM (PST)

firewindapotheosisThose melodic headbangers from Greece are up to it again. Firewind just announced a new live album, called Apotheosis – Live 2012 to be released on June 24 via Century Media. The album contains 17 tracks from special anniversary shows in Greece along with European shows from their “Few Against Many” tour last year in support of their album of the same name. It was recorded just before the departure of vocalist Apollo Papathanasio, making it the last release with him.

Guitarist Gus G. had this to say about the new record:

“Apotheosis = the glorification of a subject to a divine level. That is the word that came to my mind while thinking of how I could best describe the feeling and the vibe of those four anniversary shows we played in our homeland Greece and our last European headline tour in 2012! So that had to be our live album’s title. You can feel the energy on these recordings, you can hear the screams of the most hardcore fans and the Firewind chants… it’s all there. No doubt about it, it’s the sheer love from our fans and supporters that has kept us alive and strong for 10 years and we wanted to celebrate all that with this album. We recorded all those shows, chose the best performances and now we can’t wait to release this one!”

Sounds like it’ll be a great release. You can check out the trailer and the album track listing here.
