Heavy gloom crew Twitching Tongues to release “Disharmony” LP

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 10:40 AM (PST)

TwitchingTongues-Disharmony

Twitching Tongues have been taking hardcore passion and the disdain of the grimiest metal to new heights/depths, banging out quality release after release. Hard to believe album number three is here already and on mighty Metal Blade! Great work pays off and this band have earned it with a sound that recalls a knife fight between Carnivore and newer styles with heavy, modern distortion. In Love There Is No Law was the next level from good but uneven break out Sleep Therapy .I am confident Disharmony will take it even further down the moonlit path of blessed misery for these guys. These dudes have always had a strong merch game so I rooted for them, haha (isn’t that odd how it can work now?)…but it’s great that through discipline and gig seasoned growth they are truly coming into themselves.

This record represents every single thing we have done and have worked towards these past 5 years…It is a new beginning for this band, and it feels incredible to finally share it with all of you.” – Colin Young

The record is due in early October and the band has also unleashed a new video, directed by Tyler Bradberry, for the record’s title track and launched a pre-order for the record today at metalblade.com/twitchingtongues. They’ve already been crushing this song live , so you might recognize it already.

RiversOfNihil-Monarchy

Rivers Of Nihil are back with Monarchy, a Metal Blade release that is a big
victory for the death metal genre, the well regarded label and the East Coast
band. It is a captivating listen from start to finish, a record that rules
like a dark monarch’s shadowy yet obeyed decrees. This fucker has some
technical moments, some pure hostility and even more potent vacations into the
unknown.

Oh, and their “Sand Baptism” music video was half shot by kids!!

While the ‘Earth in peril/Sun worship’ plot subtheme of the lyrics reminds me
a bit of Shai Hulud’s excellent Reach Beyond The Sun, 2015 is a time when
people are more commonly embracing Earth conscious lyrics and subtexts. Its
cool that Metal Blade has released a lot of the best recent records in metal
that has more important environmental lessons under the surface of great riffs
and screams, from Cattle Decapitation’s The Anthropocene Extinction to the
aforementioned Hulud release.

wovenwar-archers
Wovenwar continue to grow and impress. The band are more melodic than some can handle but I personally love it. The group are not afraid to incorporate their metalcore and emo emo roots but have pushed their corners, becoming more epic in the process. Skywriting vocals match the energetic and quite metal influenced leads and intricate lines, maximum energy on both songwriting and give and take with the fans.

Nick Hipa adds: “Our video for “Archers” is cut from live footagefilmed by Josh Knofffrom our recent hometown show at Brick by Brick. The lyrics heavily reference specific themes and songs from Shane’s previous band (Oh, Sleeper) as a sentimental nod to how that chapter in his life was unforgettably formidable. With that in mind, it felt appropriate to create a visual edit captured from our venue in a room filled with quite a bit of family and friends… it kinda just completes the whole vibe as positively nostalgic.

This is the kind of band who you would love to see live or in a perfect world share a stage with. There is a kinetic excitement in what they are doing and I had to finally show their album to my current guitarist in my band GET OUT. the other day, a big As I Lay Dying fan who is still adjusting (“Dude, it’s awesome. Promise.”). Wovenwar might be different but they are forging a new legacy with sharpened tools from their experiences. “Archers” is great evidence.

Watch it NOW.

Josh Elmore of Cattle Decapitation should be proud. His band have arguably made yet another record that could be called THE album of their career, they are killing it on The Summer Slaughter tour and the band are more relevant than ever as our world chokes and burns in anguish. I knew years ago when these guys came out that this band was special and while Elmore has been in the band since the early 00’s, his contributions are tremendous. I spoke via phone with Elmore about new album The Anthropocene Extinction, current placeholder for Death Metal masterpiece of the summer and perhaps even year (we’ll see when winter rolls around).

king

Abigail has long been my absolute favorite King release, though many prefer Them. I’m happy the King’s finest, IMO, hour is getting the US full tour treatment! Read my recent interview with the legend himself HERE about his near death experience and how he hates saxophones, then check dates out below. Mayhem Fest might be gone, but they went out with the coolest band to ever grace their tour (besides another Mickey Dee alumni band, Motorhead). Yes, the black horseman ride again and that jerk Jonathan is gonna have kind of a hard time.

Official statement:

King Diamond will be back on tour soon for an extra special event for fans – one not to be missed! As part of the set, the band will be performing the classic 1987 album Abigail in its entirety! The tour will begin on October 29th and runs through December 5th with legendary bay area thrash metal band Exodus as the opening act! The full list of confirmed dates is below. The general on sale for tickets begins Friday, August 7th at 10am ET.

Hey punk rock and prog history buffs! Got some PMA? We’ve got a special treat today. One of the BEST and least documented properly scenes ever is the Woodstock/Kingston 90’s scene. We had Jason Christopher (now of Prong and currently on tour w Corey Taylor), Shabutie (early Coheed & Cambria), Lounge (feat John Naclerio who would go on to record My Chemical Romance, Polar Bear Club and many more), Three (featuring guitar virtuoso Joey Eppard), all my early bands and many more! Oh yeah, and half of the freakin’ BAD BRAINS live in Woodstock!

Take a look back in time with reflections from many of the scene participants of the day. Special thanks to Mic Todd who was unable to contribute but gave it a good try.

Links to many of the bands current and past are present as well. RIP Pat Howland. Crank some mearth., Pitchfork Militia and Shabutie today!

Check out “Secret Youth” , a look back at the 90’s Woodstock scene HERE.

Album Review: BTBAM – “Coma Ecliptic”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 2:32 PM (PST)

btbam_comaecliptic

Between The Buried and me are in a great phase right now, already respected
and with several classics under their belt, more plenty of “prove your mettle”
tours under their belts and a reputation up there with the best. BTBAM, with
Coma Ecliptic, step out of the shadow of Parallax and into their most concise
yet still deftly ambitious work ever. Alaska had heart and showed promise and
other moments like The Great Misdirect (a personal favorite) showed BTBAM were
unafraid to reinvent themselves or push at their corners with a flare akin to
Wilco, Mastodon, Candiria, Radiohead- bands with the hunger. Parallax is a
Crack The Skye or Dark Side of the Moon moment in BTBAM’s history, but not
their last hurrah.

“The Coma Machine” is perhaps my fave statement from the group yet as it is
really air tight even though lengthy and full of movement. Perhaps it is the
Scrooge-like theme of a man looking back on memories within each track, but
entire journey is impossible to miss. If you skip a track, like Cynic’s Kindly
Bent To Free Us, you’ll likely be compelled to go back and hear what you
missed. And with good cause, as “Memory Palace” alone is several awesome movements.

Shai Hulud bring more misanthropic tour dates to your zip code

Hardcore/metal hybrid pranksters Shai Hulud retain their bite/whimsy and demonic charm release after release. Matt Fox leads his band of mighty heroes on tours aplenty, but this one ought to be special. I feel also that they should write a song called “The Misanthropic #rapsongs of #ShiaLaBeouf” so that Shai Hulud would show up in more search engines. I’ve been listening to these dudes all week. Excelsior!

Dates BELOW.

Death metal’s speed obsessed sons of darkness Hate Eternal don’t ever fuck around in their quest to represent metal to the fullest. Their newest song is a real scorcher, one of the more listenable (some people can’t take this band’s intensity) songs they’ve done yet still truly punishing. Love these dudes. There are some riffs in here you will want embedded into your face/skull. The track titled “The Stygian Deep”, is streaming now at Stereogum.

Regarding the new track, HATE ETERNAL founder Erik Rutan comments: “”The Stygian Deep” has a very compelling and intriguing energy to it, dynamic and expanded yet aggressively rooted in the tradition of Hate Eternal. A very black mysterious journey that develops through many passages as you listen.  A musical landscape of much depth and darkness…”

Infernus  will be released worldwide by Season of Mist on August 21. Pre-orders for the album across multiple CD and LP bundles are available at the Season of Mist E-Shop. HATE ETERNAL previously released the first track from ‘Infernus’, “Pathogenic Apathy”, here.

New album Infernus is sure to be a thrill ride if other tracks are half this good and I’m loving the snare attack. Between this, Gutter Instinct and the mindfuck of the recent Alkaloid record, this is an awesome death metal year even if this is only a “halftime report”.

Cattle Decap Flexi Series Entry “Cannibalistic Invasivorism.”

Posted by Metal Riot on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 3:37 PM (PST)

San Diego deathgrinders, CATTLE DECAPITATION, will make their Decibel Flexi Series debut in the August 2015 issue with previously unreleased track, “Cannibalistic Invasivorism.” The ravaging new hymn – which will not appear on the band’s forthcoming new full-length, The Anthropocene Extinction – is currently available for public ingestion courtesy of MetalSucks.

Expounds frontman Travis Ryan of the tune, “One thing we learned from our last couple albums was that an album’s flow can make or break an album and it’s an often overlooked part of the album-making process. We ended up with a couple songs that got squeezed out of the album’s flow that were naturally then deemed ‘bonus tracks,’ and the track ‘Cannibalistic Invasivorism’ was one of them. It’s a song about doing away with pestiferous, invasive species of life through eating them, similar to the invasivorism movement by culinary artistes who use things like snails, squirrels, etc., or any animal/insect that need their numbers thinned down in any given area or ecosystem to have a positive impact on the region. Of course, in the ‘turning the tables’ nature of CATTLE DECAPITATION, in this song we find the target being the single most invasive species on planet earth: the human being. Enjoy!”

Sample “Cannibalistic Invasivorism,” now streaming at MetalSucks at THIS LOCATION.

A limited number of issues which include the flexi are currently available for purchase HERE but hurry!
