Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 4:21 PM (PST)

599346_502865936443991_445892684_nOrange Goblin are pure rock n’ roll… feared, respected and mentioned in whispers by awed rock fans and youngsters across the world. Orange Goblin are the modern UK metal heroes who never give up and always keep kicking ass. Back with their first live album, the pants-seat scorching A EULOGY FOR THE FANS (Candlelight), “The Goblin” just get better with age. Seriously, could this band be any more awesome? I think not.

When asked about the lyrics and theme of “From The Cradle To The Grave,” Havok vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez stated:

‘From The Cradle To The Grave’ is about America’s first serial killer, H.H. Holmes. In the late 1800s, in Chicago, Holmes built a hotel specifically with murder in mind. It included doors that opened up to brick walls, staircases that lead to nowhere, and one-way rooms that once you entered, you never came out. He was a religious man and firmly believed that since he was born, the Devil was at his side. That being said, bang your head.”

Havok are about to embark on a short tour with Goatwhore and The Casualties which you can find dates/venues and all the rest for with the video.

Posted by SeanB on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 3:49 PM (PST)

absutour2013Texas based mythological occult metal group Absu have announced a special North American tour called The North American Connexus Conjuration.  The band will be rolling through 26 cities starting April 5, 2012 and concluding May 4th.  The band will be playing two full sets of music covering their entire 20 year career.

For a list of dates and venues click right here.

This will mark the band’s first tour since the 2010 release of the band’s seventh album Abzu.  Vocalist and drummer Proscriptor had the following to say about the tour:

“Since the release of our latest recording, ‘Abzu’, the response has been extremely vehement and now is the perfect moment to commemorate the album’s essence throughout North America. We purposely waited until the timing was ideal to embark on this journey, as we shall contaminate the communities with our craft of mythological occult metal. We’re attempting to divide the concerts into two sections: the first act will showcase songs spanning from our entire discography, as the second act will focus on Phase Two from the album ‘Tara: The Cythrául Klan’s Scrutiny’. For the past couple of years, many of ABSU’s followers have requested specified songs from this chapter of ‘Tara’, so it is our aspiration to give the people what they want.”

Woe releasing new album “Withdrawal”

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 12:06 PM (PST)

Pennsylvania black metallers Woe have announced that they will be releasing their new album on April 23rd via Candlelight Records. The album, Withdrawal, is the band’s third album.

The album is produced by vocalist/guitarist Chris Grigg and mastered by Colin Marston. It features seven new songs with a running time of 43 minutes. It is the first new material by the band since 2010’s Quietly, Undramatically. It also reunites the band with artist and long-time friend Justin Miller.

Chris Grigg commented on the album’s creation: “I spent a ton of time focusing on the production. We examined what WOE created since its inception in 2007 and broke it down to its core elements. The result is something that is a synthesis of the strongest elements: the unstoppable black metal ferocity of A Spell For The Death of Man mixed with the bold dynamics and smarter, more direct and personal songwriting of Quietly, Undramatically. It is our most intense, our most cohesive, our most personal.”

The album was recorded at studios in New York and New Jersey during the latter months of 2012. It benefits from 18-months of live performances. “This is music that was made to be performed live,” Grigg notes. “Working with other people keeps WOE fresh. They bring new ideas and perspectives, fill in the gaps of my own abilities, and keep things moving when I slow down. This is the first WOE album to include not just riffs written by others but entire songs. Ruston (Grosse, drums) wrote “Ceaseless Jaws.” Ben (Brand, guitar) wrote the initial draft of “Exhausted” and then we reworked it. It’s also the first album to include vocals other than mine: Grzesiek (Czapla, bass/vocals) doesn’t just do backups; he has entire verses in a number of songs and is more “second vocalist” than anything else.”

Album Review: Daylight Dies – A Frail Becoming

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 7:54 PM (PST)

Candlelight Records is lucky to have a band as good as Daylight Dies on their roster. This group is so consistent and embody why metal can be so much more than a cliché  small brained, violent party soundtrack. For anyone who has ever experienced true loss or the types who are up early in the cold morning to reflect, for those who need time to themselves to center their thoughts, Daylight Dies is your soundtrack. I actually save them for when I am in a certain mood and no other band will do. If I listen to them casually it is awesome but soon pulls me completely into murky, if bleakly beautiful, thoughts. It is all to tempting to live in that place.

The best moments of LOST TO THE LIVING were a new high water mark for the band, and it is great to hear that they have not stopped pushing themselves on A FRAIL BECOMING. The  Jens Bogren (Opeth, Devin Townsend) mix is near perfect. Everything that is great about Daylight Dies is still present; crushing, My Dying Bride snail-paced guitar, dynamic and chilling yet warm quieter classical passages, death metal growls that convey actual deep/difficult emotions, intoxicating solos that will make you fucking sob if you drink too much wine. Their albums should be part of every metal collection.

Music Video: Daylight Dies “Dreaming Of Breathing”

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 9:50 AM (PST)

North Carolina metalcore band Daylight Dies released their fourth studio album, A Frail Becoming, yesterday via Candlelight Records.

The band recently premiered the music video for “Dreaming Of Breathing” which is off the new album. You can check it out right here.

The video was directed by Ramon Boutviseth. Drummer Jesse Haff commented on the course taken in bringing the video to fruition:

“We worked with director Ramon Boutviseth back in 2006 when he filmed the ‘Lies the Bind’ video. We were blown away by what he delivered, and by his talents and ambition. We knew without hesitation he was who we wanted to work with for the ‘Dreaming of Breathing’ video. It was important the video not only visually matched the aesthetic of the album art, but also communicate at least metaphorically some of the meaning behind the song. He filmed the narrative bits in Malibu, California, and the band shots in a small studio with no air conditioning during a sweltering hot evening in North Carolina. We think the end result is gorgeous and fitting, and are just so pleased to have worked with Ramon and his team once again.”
