Coal Chamber and Napalm Records have announced the studio return of the Nu Metal West Coast spooksters.

“Napalm Records is pleased to announce the signing of Los Angeles, California’s COAL CHAMBER, a band that stood as leaders at the forefront of new genres, constantly reinventing their sound and not fitting any mold except their own. With sold out tours, and millions of records sold, COAL CHAMBER owned the Scene from the mid nineties until their tumultuous breakup in May of 2002. Now they have returned to take their place at the top where they once were and intend to be there for years to come. Call it what you want, ‘The Return’, ‘The Second Coming of’, but no matter what you call it, be prepared for COAL CHAMBER to rule again.”

I for one am psyched. Dark Days is way fuckin’ underrated (and incidentally was produced by my half-sister Stephanie’s uncle Ross Hogarth). I am very curious to hear what this band will sound like in 2014, especially since Dez has been on fire with Devildriver. I think CC are gonna hit it hard and be real hungry to prove themselves again, like on the fist album. Word up.

Knotfest is back, and so far the lineup is awesome!

Posted by SeanB on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 8:43 PM (PST)

knotfest-poster-2014So if you haven’t heard yet, Slipknot is making new music and bringing “Knotfest” back once again.  So far the festival is featuring all sorts of awesomeness on 5-ish different stages.  There’s no mention of a 4th stage on the official site, but plenty of mention of the 5th.  So is there a fourth stage, and if so who’s playing???(or is the fourth stage just some other type of entertainment like fire breathers or midget stripper wrestlers?)

For the current list of bands and full press release click right here.

Judging from the info we have now, maybe the fourth stage will be full of other types of attractions.  What we do know is that the festival will feature performances by The Black Dahlia Murder, Chelsea Grin, Suicide Silence, Butcher Babies, Alterbeast, Satyricon, Otep,Amen, Prong, Immolation, In This Moment, The Devil Wears Prada,Butcher Babies, Miss May I, One OK Rock, Testament, Carcass, Maximm The Hormone, King 810, Man With A Mission, Danzig, Anthrax, Black Label Society, Hatebreed, Fear Factory, Napalm Death, Atika 7, Exmortus, Rattlehead, Killswitch Engage, Whitechapel, Upon A Burning Body, Anti-Mortem, Of Mice & Men, Devildriver, Veil Of Maya, Nothing More, Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat, Tech N9ne, Atreyu, and even Hellyeah!.

Now that’s just so far.  I don’t feel like tagging each band individually so if you don’t know on please look them up.  The whole of this insanity is unraveling at San Manuel Amphitheater & Campgrounds in San Bernardino, CA on October 24th-26th.  You can find tickets right here.  There’s sure to be more bands announce so keep your ears and eyes open.

Slipknot release freaky video for “The Negative One”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 9:43 PM (PST)

Slipknot have released a brand spankin’ nu video for recent single “The Negative One”, which is rumored to feature Chris from Lamb Of God on drums. I’m not so sure. It doesn’t sound as hard hitting as his drumming usually does, but maybe he adjusted things to sound a bit more tribal, if it is him.  The song is fuckin’ cool, though. Very much reminds me of the first Slipknot album but a bit more chaotic.

It’s been a good time in metal for sexy ass crazy demonic babes who are scary and seem possessed in music videos of late, between the girl in this Clown directed clip, the (scariest one) contortionist exorcism chic Pixie (from Game of Thrones) in Savage Messiah’s recent video and the chic in the recent fucking A+ evil awesome new Belphegor joint “Conjuring The Dead”. Something weird is in the air.

Slipknot stream “The Negative One”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:40 AM (PST)

Slipknot logo

Iowa masked ambassadors Slipknot have released a new song for streaming called “The Negative One”, a real thrash and basher that hearkens back to their first album’s insanity with a bit less nu in the metal. Corey sounds pretty darn peeved in this one and the whiplash riffing and grooves you’d expect are all there, though the drumming is noticeably less awesome than when Joey was in the band.

You can unlock the track at the official website HERE. Maggots everywhere weep tears of blood.

This will be on Slipknot’s pending fifth album and the only one to not feature deceased bassist Paul Gray or fan favorite Joey Jordison, who was asked to exit the band last year.

DragonForce-MaximumOverload

DRAGONFORCE will release Maximum Overload in the US on August 19th via Metal Blade Records. Maximum Overload is available for pre-order HERE, in CD, digital, and limited edition vinyl formats! While there be sure to check out the band’s new video for the song “The Game“.

Today DRAGONFORCE unveils the second song from their upcoming masterpiece. The second single, entitled “Defenders” is being premiered exclusively by Loudwire. Get an insight into guitarist Herman Li’s thoughts on the song and get a first listen HERE.

Produced by Jens Bogren at Fascination Studios in Örebro and Varberg, Sweden, the new opus will be the band’s first ever album involving an outside producer, having historically opted to record themselves in association with Karl Groom.

Working with Jens gave us a different perspective on the songs and a different sound dynamic. We always previously recorded in our own studios but recording in Sweden made us focus and maybe drove us harder, Jens certainly did, he doesn’t believe in days off!” said guitar maestro Herman Li.

Maximum Overload” features a couple of surprises, notably a guest appearance on some of the songs from Trivium’s Matt Heafy. “We’ve always gotten on really well with the Trivium guys and it was great when Matt had a couple of days to spare and agreed to weigh in on some of the songs!” added bassist Frederic Leclercq.

The album also features an all time first for DRAGONFORCE…a cover song! Guitarist Sam Totman explained: “Just before the last Australian tour, our manager suggested it might be interesting to do a cover for the next album, something we’ve always refused even to consider. Because we had all had a couple beers every band member wrote down 3 songs each and we compared them all, just for a laugh. I wrote down ‘Ring Of Fire’ by Johnny Cash, an idea which the rest of the band loved, so we’ve DRAGONFORCE-ized it“!

WT-Xzibit-e1394258285148

Symphonic metal top sellers  Within Temptation have released a new video from their Hydra release, a very sci-fi enhanced production for the song “And We Run”, which features rapper Xzibit. Startlingly, the sort of baritone barrage rap style of Xzibit sounds pretty cool over the crazy string arrangements and vocal chants of “I can do this epic shit in my sleep” mega talented chanteuse Sharon den Adel.

Hydra features some of the band’s catchiest and most realized material and is one of the most exciting releases in the genre in recent memory (along with tourmate’s Delain’s The Human Contradiction).

The band unleashed the following statement:

The song is about the fact we sometimes get caught up in a situation where we can’t be ourselves; breaking loose and moving on can be difficult but it’s necessary to stay true to who you are. The video is about escaping darkness, solving your issues and moving into a brighter future. Check it out now!

Machine Head‘s latest single “Killers and Kings” is now online and ready to shove a boot in your ear. There is a pretty monstrous breakdown, some rough but on the $ vocal work and great thrashing groove metal the way Machine Head deliver when they are operating on all cylinders. This bodes well.

Meg White chosen as new drummer of Slipknot

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 12:18 PM (PST)

Well, this was unexpected.

1558549_10203055236208990_413075197_n

In news sure to shock the metal community, it turns out Meg White has been out of the limelight since the White Stripes broke up because she has been plotting big things…becoming the new “Number 1” in Slipknot. It turns out White has always been a metal fan and that the mask will help her acute anxiety.

Comments Meg (turning down the Black Keys and putting down her Alison Mosshart voodoo doll):

“Maggots are white. How’s that for starters! I just wanted to call our 5th Stripes album ‘Satan’ but Jack insisted on adding the “get behind me…” part. Now Behemoth are getting all this press for ‘The Satanist’. I could fucking murder somebody. You want to hear an Icky Thump!? How about I smash you over the head with this tiny red drum kit! But yeah, that was the start of the end. It really caused a rift between me and Jack. I wanted to bring in elements to the Stripes to show where the blues eventually evolved…ass thudding metal! Throw in a Krokus or W.A.S.P. cover. But no! Jack was so always busy making guitars out of bird feeders. Well now I am “Number1″ in reality! Bitches will finally get to hear my speed and brutal finesse.”

According to sources (a dream I had), Meg has already penned a few contributions for the top secret next ‘Knot release. Working titles include “Raconteurs = Shit” and “Black Orchid”. Personally, I adore Meg and think this is going to be a lot of fun.

Slipknot-Logo-White-WallpaperSlipknot drummer Joey Jordison has taken to Facebook to announce that his departure from Slipknot was not voluntary.  To paraphrase his statement, which you can read below, he announces that he did not leave but implies that he was forced out for reasons he cannot go into.

You can read Jordison’s statement here: “I would like to start the New Year by addressing the recent rumors and speculation regarding my departure from Slipknot. I want to make it very clear that I DID NOT QUIT SLIPKNOT. This band has been my life for the last 18 years, and I would never abandon it, or my fans. This news has shocked and blindsided me as much as it has all of you. While there is much I would like to say, I must remain silent to further details at this time. I would like to thank you all for your unwavering love and support, and wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year.”

Slipknot and drummer Joey Jordison part ways

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 9:18 AM (PST)

Slipknot-Logo-White-WallpaperIowa metal band Slipknot have announced the departure of long time drummer Joey Jordison. It looks like the his reasons for leaving the band were personal but no word of those reasons as of yet. The band has not yet announced his replacement.

The band had the following to say:
“It is with great pain but quiet respect, that for personal reasons Joey Jordison and Slipknot are parting ways. We all wish Joey the best in whatever his future holds. We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future.

“It is our love for all of you, as well as for the music we create, that spurs us to continue on and move forward with our plans for releasing new material in the next year. We hope that all of you will come to understand this, and we appreciate your continued support while we plan the next phase of the future of Slipknot.

2013 Highlights In Reverse: Blood Orange Blues

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 6:10 PM (PST)

melvins-1

King Buzzo at House of Vans NYC by J.M.

2013 was a great year for music. I can’t recall a year in recent memory where I was so torn between so many great releases for my year end “list”. From Tidal Arms to Across Tundras to Ephel Duath to Nails, so many great bands just killed it. Other band greats tried to kill people as well. It was certainly a year for upheaval in the metal world, with scandals from the camps of As I Lay Dying to Nachtmystium to the horribly wrong Lost Prophets saga (you sick fucker, you are a shame to humanity and especially the Welsh, my heritage) upsetting the general public. As I Lay Dying is a real drag since The Powerless Rise is a fucking great album. But on the bright side it was a killer touring year, many albums that will be loved for years came out and heavy music is strong as ever-if not more. And if nothing today suits your fancy or makes you want to say Hail to the King, crank the Dave Grohl mixed B’last record Blood! for an old school slap in the face back to reality!

From my “best of” top pick Killswitch Engage‘s Disarm The Descent to Gorguts’ Colored Sands to Ghost invading the mainstream as the new nameless faces of metal to Corrections House shockingly cold Last City Zero, there was so much to inspire. So horns up, y’all. Here is an array of my thoughts plus year end reflections from members of Mares of Thrace, Storm King, Candiria, Landmine Marathon and more! Also I’ve got some exclusive 2013 live pics of Emmure, Filter, Melvins, For Today and more!

Music Video: Killswitch Engage- “Always”

Posted by flixdestroyer on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 4:12 PM (PST)

Killswitch-Engage-2013The beginning of the week saw Killswitch Engage premiere a brand new video for their latest single, “Always.”  The single is taken from last April’s Disarm the Descent, released on Roadrunner Records. The video sees the band experimenting with a narrative form as none of the members appear in the video.  Instead, the plot revolves around the relationship between two brothers.

Killswitch Engage are currently on a co-headlining tour of the U.S. with Lamb of God with support from Testament and Huntress.
