Intronaut announce U.S. headlining tour

Posted by longhairedpoet on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 11:08 AM (PST)

Intronaut-Tour

Los Angeles prog metallers Intronaut have announced that they will be headlining a U.S. tour.

Intronaut will see support from The Ocean and North. They are currently touring in support of their album The Direction of Last Things.

Intronaut commented on the tour:

“Intronaut would like to thank all you amazing people for your continued support of our band over the past decade, and especially with the release of our latest album. You guys are the best fans ever, and we’re lucky to have you! We are very excited to announce our first headlining run of 2016, with support coming from two bands we love. To give you an idea of our show, we are planning on playing all the songs from “The Direction Of Last Things,” as well as some songs from all our past records. We are also working hard on a beefed-up visual production that should take you from zero to I’m-freaking-out-man in record time.”

Under Black Flags We March: 2015 recap in 12 Metal Instagram posts.

While twelve photos cannot capture the full year in metal, I looked around on Instagram for some shots or moments that seemed to me to fit the overall spirit of the year.

I tried to keep it more celebratory , so there aren’t any Paris attack photos in here, though it was an important event for all music. I also chose to show different genres of metal, to remind us we are stronger with one another.

See the choices (including some gig fliers) BELOW.

What were your biggest moments?

At The Gates release “The Night Eternal” animated clip

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 4:44 PM (PST)

at_the_gates_2013

Melodeath kings At The Gates have revealed a moody and dark new clip for “The Night Eternal” from recent return record At War With Reality. One of the best “comeback” albums in recent metal history, or any genre, the album features jaw dropping performances that will make you potentially forget all the years since Slaughter Of The Soul or agree the wait was worth it. My only gripe is the song name is really close to one of my favorite Moonspell tunes, but it rules nonetheless.

I hope the jean jacket wearing drunk and stoned dolphin in Intronaut‘s new video remembered to throw out the plastic ring six pack yokes from the many beers it likely consumed so as to not injure itself later on when it hops back in the pool. The “Fast Worms” clip from the prog metal band is truly…unique?

Perhaps the title of this article is click bait, for in the end the dolphin seems unhappy and seems to realize the simpler things in life are more enjoyable than “chasing the dream”.

If you want to see a dolphin ejaculate out of a blow hole while getting busy with a girl who looks vaguely like Megan Fox or see a drunk and stoned dolphin get in a bar fight, this bud’s for you.

Album Review: Queensrÿche – “Condition Human”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 11:11 AM (PST)

queensrycheconditioncd

The only way it could be more apparent at this point that losing Geoff Tate
was the best career saving decision Queensryche ever made was if the current
line up performed some Frequency Unknown songs in the set and did a better
job at those as well. Understand that every time I have to write something
like that about Tate-ryche and the fall from grace of one of metal’s once
towering voices, a little part of the kid in me who fell in love with every
track on Empire dies. But the new band have made me believe again, along wth
many others. Geoff Tate is grasping at straws with his distastefully named
Operation: Mindcrime band, a move that cheapens the iconic album’s brand more
than a new Queensryche line up that kicks ass and has a classic sound ever
could.

And I feel for Tate. It’s gotta hurt. But make no mistake…Condition Human is hands down the best Queensryche album in
20+ years, the best since Promised Land by far and the first to finally once
and for all make you say ,“Chris DeGarmo who”?

To be fair, I liked moments of Tribe and even Dedicated To Chaos had a few late Tate great moments where his better character shone through like “Get Started” which sounds a little like Pearl Jam doing a mid tempo Queensryche song but was fun. But the “we don’t suffer fools” lyric from that song and “Time to change the view” line turned out to fit Tate the best.

IWABO robbed, let’s help them out

iwrestledabearonce deserve some support.

On the night of Sept. 20th, 2015 our trailer was stolen in Denton, TX. Inside that trailer, we had a lot of our touring gear (Mikey’s drum set, speaker cabinets, road cases) and all of our merchandise.. The total amount of everything stolen is over $20,000, not including the trailer itself. Our bass player Ricky was moving the van and trailer from one safe storage space to another and parked the van overnight across the street from his house in a church parking lot. The same place we’re used to parking every time we have a stop in his town. This was discovered the next day, on the 21st, and police reports were filed. The police have informed us that recovering any of this is extremely unlikely, even though we have no idea what use someone would have with a whacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man with our band’s name on it; plus all of our merchandise that we were going to sell on this next tour.

Help the band HERE if you can.

TesseracT will return to North America for a healthy batch of tour dates slated for later this year. The band has tapped THE CONTORTIONIST as main support along with ERRA, and SKYHARBOR. “Five years ago we bundled ourselves in to a van and set off on our debut North American tour,” says bassist Amos Williams. “It was not only our North American debut but also our first major tour, really.”

Dates will kick off on November 2nd at the Theater for Living Arts in Philadelphia and run coast to coast making a few stops in Canada before wrapping things up at Irving Plaza in New York City on December 7th.

Dates BELOW.

I think when you bring an album out, our job’s done. You’ve recorded it.
It’s that moment in time. When the record is released people need sound bytes
and a reason to buy a record. We’ve seen that. It’s always something. This
time around it’s “return to the roots”. That wasn’t what we were thinking when
we were writing it. – Greg Mackintosh

Paradise Lost are one of the most important metal bands of all time. Their
influence is hardly measurable, the sign of a next level tier of influence
occupied by bands with revered names like Candlemass, In Flames, Emperor,
Christian Death, Moonspell, Type O Negative or Celtic Frost. Bands who all
were or are so unique yet deeply affected the sound of the era they are mostly
associated with. Often imitated but never duplicated,so to speak (Did I
mention Draconian Times just turned 20?!)

It was an honor to speak, very early in the morning my Upstate, NY time, with
UK metal hero Greg Mackintosh about The Plague Within. This high charting and
no fucks given record is a later career milestone for the band, proof that
their morose glory still melts “Flesh From Bone”, to mention a newer song.

Read our discussion BELOW and be sure to purchase the new, brilliantly dark 14th album!

3 Inches of Blood Has Decided to Part Ways

From the very 1st note that graced my ears (“Deadly Sinners”), 3 Inches of Blood spoke to me with a deep resonance. When I discovered they’re avid D&D players like myself, it all made sense. But sadly that era has come to an end. 3IoB have just announced they are separating. This is what they posted on their official Facebook page just a few hours agohg:

“Unfortunately this is not the sort of news you were wanting to hear but here goes.  It is now that we come to announce that 3 Inches of Blood has decided to part ways. Naturally, people will have questions as to why we have collectively made this decision. While our reasons are personal, just know we are all still good friends, but it is just time to move on. All of us will continue to pursue musical projects, so refer to our social media pages to keep up with that. We are eternally thankful to our fans, friends and family that have stuck by us through thick and thin and always believed in us. You are the reason this band got anywhere and kept us going. We’d also like to thank our musical peers and former 3 Inches of Blood members for all your love and support over the years.

We’d like to put one last stamp on the band’s career and end it in grand style. Our final performance will be in our hometown of Vancouver, BC, Canada on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the fabulous Commodore Ballroom. We’re pleased to say that, Fire Up the Blades-era bassist, Nick Cates will be playing the show with us. As well, we intend to deliver other special surprises that will make this a night to remember. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 5 and you will be able to get them here.”

Raise your tear stained metal horns in eulogical honor. \m/ #RIP3IOB

Napalm Death announce US festival and European tour dates

Posted by longhairedpoet on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 4:39 PM (PST)

Maryland DeathFest 2015

British grindcore godfathers Napalm Death are preparing to be on the road this summer.

Napalm Death are touring to promote their 15 album Apex Predator – Easy Meat.

Bassist Shane Embury had this to say about the upcoming tour:

We had an awesome time down in Australia & New Zealand with our old friends Carcass! A lot of history between us as everyone probably knows and the crowds were very appreciative with most of the shows sold out. And what a great line up, also with Extortion opening…a truly awesome band from Australia. All in all a killer tour and I almost got Bill Steer up onstage for a few of the old songs, but we never quite managed it with all of the crazy traveling and early flights. But one day soon though, I tell you…Cheers!

Check out the Napalm Death tour dates here.

Make sure to check back for details on an upcoming Napalm Death 7″ split EP.

British progressive metal mischief-maker’s Tesseract have decided to stream Odyssey/Scala in its entirety on Youtube.

Odyssey/Scala will be TesseracT’s first foray into releasing full-length live audio/video concert footage. It also sees the return of vocalist Daniel Tompkins.

Instead of the DVD being one full go, a traditional live concert, the band recorded the audio portion (Odyssey) while on the European and Russian legs of the Altered States World Tour.

The video portion (Scala) was filmed at home in London, UK.

Check out the video here.

“We strive to create. It is an essential part of who we are as individuals. We will only stop when we are dead!” – Matt

Cryptopsy vocalist Matt McGachy  was awesome and checked in to tell us about the Back To The US 2015 Tour the death metal veteran tyrants are engaging in (Tickets HERE! Get them). Cryptopsy have been curdling blood since before you popped pubes, so give them respect! Also, check their new crowd funding effort and chip in, metalheads!

I’ll tell you what…I just rode 6 hours on a bus today. Mother’s Day I went to babysit my sister’s kids out of state as a favor. It was good to se family but the long ride back to Upstate, NY was ringing my ears. People in early summer in NYC are either amazing to look at, day walker hipster scum or Romero zombie/walkers who stink of piss and mental illness. I mean, it depends on where you are. I love NYC to death, even now. Still, I had forgotten to take my meds for 3 days and swicthed seats so a nice Asian couple could sit together and my last hour home this “large framed” woman in a sleeveless shirt was sweating and fainting on me half asleep, really edging me out. Seeing all this beautiful former countryside roll by as I came back through Rhode Island and Mass and then crawled past NJ adult gift stores and empty lots, it bummed me out. I try to be compassionate and believe in the best in humanity but sometimes you see the swarming, hungry masses just now learning to not have GMOs in their Chipotle and you wanna barf and scream “why, God?! Why are we such slaves to wolfish, murderous impulse.” Then you want to listen to metal and scream and cry.

Fucking Cryptopsy, whichever album (and I do mean ALL of them – seriously, how could you think “The Headsmen” wasn’t fucking insane?!!) have more guts, dedication and tenacity than half the citizens of the United States in guitarist Chris Donaldson ‘s little picking finger alone. These dudes have slaved over countless riffs, logged many miles and held on to the torch of extreme and deadly music long before social media troll-core blog page comment nazis started wearing big ass ear gauges.

Tesseract release live video for “Nocturne”

Music keeps a lot of us sane, though Tesseract‘s nerve defying dare-devilry IS often insane. Taken from the live album,’ Odyssey/Scala‘, Century Media, 2015, the performance is a well shot and extremely capable expression of melody, climbing and complex arrangements and a plunge into the unknown. Prog fans can dig it BELOW.
