Cattle Decapitation will be performing a brand new song off their upcoming 2015 Metal Blade release at the mid day show of the Housecore Horror Film Festival. The show will be at Midway’s on Friday, 10/24 with Unearth, Brian Posehn, Origin, fellow San Diegan and friend Author & Punisher, and Evil United! The band is looking forward to debuting new material for the festival crowd. Later that same evening, Cattle Decapitation‘s vocalist Travis Ryan will be performing vocals with Wizards of Gore (the legendary gore thrash act Rigor Mortis under a different name) for his all time favorite Rigor Mortis track “Foaming at the Mouth”, which will mark this the band’s first time playing the song in over 25 years!

Ivar Bjørnson picks Skeletonwitch for Roadburn 2015

Today, the prestigious Roadburn Festival announced that SKELETONWITCH has been invited to perform at the 2015 edition of the event, which takes place in Tilburg, Holland next April. Pre-sale tickets go on sale Oct. 16.

“Simply put: if you want blackened thrash (or whatever you want to call it – everybody has their own definition of what these Ohio rednecks are supposed to be defined as) of the absolutely highest order, these are your guys,” proclaimed Enslaved guitarist Ivar Bjørnson, who alongside Einar “Kvitrafn” Selvik (Wardruna) has curated the line-up for Roadburn 2015.

Having hand-picked SKELETONWITCH to play, Bjørnson — who toured alongside the group earlier this year — added, “Okay, I’ve gotta admit that once again sharing a backstage area with these wonderful specimens of the human variety is a motivation in itself – but it is of course first and foremost the music that brought about the invite. This is the perfect band to tear down the walls at Roadburn 2015 and seriously shake things up/slap us silly. If ‘Witch’s high-octane metal doesn’t make you headbang like there’s no tomorrow, you’re probably dead.”

Falconer announce final live shows

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 8:08 PM (PST)

falconer

ProgPower USA has announced the line up for ProgPower XVI, which will include Falconer‘s final live performance. A video featuring music from the bands announced so far can be found on facebook.com/ProgPowerUSA. The festival is scheduled to take place in Atlanta, GA September 11-12 next year. Tickets will go on sale on October 4 through Ticketmaster.

Falconer has released the following statement online:

“As the news has been dropped that we won’t continue as a live act we take the opportunity to explain, not that it really differs much from the state the band usually is in. The last show will take place at ProgPower USA in 2015.

“As I (Stefan Weinerhall) started Falconer in 1999 it was meant to be a studio project, I have always looked upon myself as a writer more than an artist, the creative work has been the reason and driving force. We started doing some shows after a while but never really going all in although the shows themselves was really rewarding, fun and filled with fond memories. It is due to conscious decisions that we have built the band up around our obligations, work schedules and family lives so there is no bitterness to this decision although the decisions were harder to make in the early years when everything started rolling. If we’re not a proper live act we’re better of as the studio project we were meant to be.

“The inconsistency of doing very few shows with huge gaps between them has meant that we’ve had to start up the rusty machinery from scratch each time. So now as we all are becoming grumpy old men, we realise that the output don’t match the input although the experiences from the past gigs have been great!

“We owe it to our fans and ourselves to do some more appearances before becoming even more reclusive than we already are, haha! So for 2015 we have looked into our windows of opportunity and seen which festivals we CAN do. Those festivals are now contacted and know of the exclusivity in the offer. So with this I hope that those of you who really want to catch us a last time will succeed, even though we haven’t directly booked a world tour!

“Cheers from the metal minstrels from the north!”

Stefan, Mathias, Karsten, Jimmy and Magnus

Falconer’s most recent album, Black Moon Rising was released in June of this year and can be previewed and purchased at metalblade.com/falconer.

Much luck to the band in their future endeavors and thanks for their efforts to date bringing great metal to true fans.

Kingston, NY’s hardcore kings Painmask are underground vets who real heads know have been in this dogfight for decades. Now, the band have an upcoming gig with Cro-Mags and Sub Zero in Poughkeepsie, NY

Says intelligent vocalist Jay Avery:

“Were really excited for this upcoming show and the chance to meet and hang with great local acts and support two legendary New York Hardcore bands. Both Subzero and Cro-mags have pioneered the style and scene that we have always been proud to be part of. We’re taking this  opportunity to introduce new members of the band and material that is soon to be released. We’re confident that the new additions to the Painmask roster will once again deliver! Were a solid group of lifelong metalheads with endless ambition. Our strict mission is to deliver the most intense, thought provoking, heavy music set one could ask for.  And If you don’t believe me come see for yourself. We offer a money back guarantee!”

I asked Avery how about the material they recently tracked with Joey Z. of Life Of Agony fame at various studios?

“Were working on final mixes with the new tracks and couldn’t be more happier with the outcome. We were a little concerned at first with the recent member changes, but what has emerged is incredible! Life’s circumstances have parlayed into something bigger and stronger then we could have imagined. JoeyZ really is a cut above to work with. His advice and professionalism is second to none! But with the recent resurgence of Life of Agony and their European shows this month, we’ve had to take a short pause from mastering. We should have these songs available by mid September. But if you’re one of the lucky ticket holders and we see you at the sold out LOA reunion on Sept 13 in Sayreville NJ. I might even have a copy for you.”

Ereb Altor to decimate Summer Breeze 2014

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:50 AM (PST)

So, this news is a month old, but I am looking for any reason to post about Ereb Altor today. I am stoned and listening to “Nifelheim”. More people simply need to appreciate the majestic, vast strength of this band.

The festival announcement update from the Summer Breeze folks recently proclaimed:

All fans of harsh, yet epic sounds are already familiar with our next confirmed band: EREB ALTOR are coming to SUMMER BREEZE 2014!
The Swedes can be considered the legitimate successors of Bathory, because, just as the viking metal pioneers, EREB ALTOR know too well how to perfectly combine snappy melodies with epic song structures. Add to this a bit of ice-cold nordic atmosphere and what you get is a sonic brew that grabs you and won’t let you go. As an example, may we mention their 2013 album ‘Fire Meets Ice’, the title of which is a pretty accurate description of EREB ALTOR’s music, and that belongs in every proper metal collection. Check it out!

Tickets: http://www.summer-breeze.de/de/tickets/info.html

Some of the other confirmed acts this year include Alcest, Bodyfarm, Of Mice & Men, Enforcer, Biohazard and too many more to list!

Show Review: The Vans Warped Tour 2014

Posted by XxCrashQueenxX on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 7:09 PM (PST)

WT Punk rock summer camp…wasn’t so punk rock. The Vans Warped Tour rolled into town on June 20th in Pomona, CA. The Warped Tour line up this year is made up of heavier bands, but punk bands? Not so much. (I’m not complaining).

Show Photos: “Trust” in Sevendust at Upstate Concert Hall

Some bands go acoustic and make a hot mess of it, but not Sevendust. The melodic and syncopated groove metal road warriors killed it on 2014’s crowd sourced win win win Time Travelers & Bonfires.  Live the retooled classic material like “Black” and “Crucified” and great new cuts like “Come Down” or “The Wait” are singalong ritual release. Dudes prove yet again you can never count them out and they can’t be pigeonholed. I feel bad for anyone who has missed out on so many great moments in the 7D timeline for fear of liking a “Nu Metal” associated act.

Catharina Christiana shot the band at Upstate Concert Hall on a recent tour stop for us and you can check the warm and energized photos out HERE.

Fozzy fucking rule and Buckcherry have the party survival prowess of a world class hard rock act. To this day both bands remain true to their values and rebel with style to packed houses.

Jericho really knows his metal. Chasing The Grail is still one of my favorite albums (especially the epic “Wormwood”). I like that Fozzy has Stuck Mojo roots and weren’t too high falootin’ to not play covers in their early years. Chris loves The Scorpions and Ozzy, which is cool.

I always wondered if Buckcherry could face a tornado and survive.

Here are some exclusive shots from Catharina Christiana of the band’s pairing off recently from their NYC and Poughkeepsie gigs. Oh and buy Rival Sons tickets at the Big Apple venue coming up HERE (if ya want a hot tip).

Anyhow, click HERE to see the photos.

Show photos: Twelve Foot Ninja at The Loft 5/15/14

We are big Twelve Foot Ninja fans around here (that way they wont make burgers out of us). But, seriously…the Australian band and Revolver Mag’s recent Best New Artists Golden Gods winners are a fucking blast (with a bit of a Faith No More thing going on with modern twists). So yeah, a blast a half of rock n roll ninja goodness. We had to send photographer Catharina Christiana to capture these guys givin’ it hard to The Loft in Poughkeepsie, NY as part of their first headlining US tour. And just for fun I threw the “Mother Sky” video into this post past the photos, cuz I mean…those girls. Yeah.

(I haven’t seen them SINCE a show with Glassjaw, Coheed and American Nightmare in Jersey fuck knows how many years ago), Neutral Milk Hotel , Nas and a ton more. This is gonna be a good little vacation, me thinks!
