It’s totally  free! That’s the terribly dark single artwork over on the left. You can download (or just stream) the track over at the Adult Swim site, along with tracks from a bunch of other really great non-metal artists like Andy Stott and Autre Ne Veut.

Cattle Decapitation releases “Your Disposal” music video

Posted by longhairedpoet on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 1:42 PM (PST)

Cattle Decapitation San Diego deathgrinders Cattle Decapitation have released the music video for their song “Your Disposal” from their most recent album Monolith of Inhumanity.

Vocalist Travis Ryan had this to say about the video:

“Director Mitch Massie has presented us all with a bizarre retelling of the story of Adam and Eve using themes from our latest albumMonolith of Inhumanity. Here we see Eve giving birth to humanity, a living, breathing piece of primordial meat birthed into the dirt making its way through the Garden Of Eden, hell-bent on destruction… A clean and conscious monolith foretelling what could be possible given the fact that humans exhibit superior traits of intelligence, instead the earth is flooded with technological fallout and debris by the hands of man. This video is very much a prequel to our other videos ‘Forced Gender Reassignment’ and of course, ‘Kindgom of Tyrants.’”

Check out the “Your Disposal” video and Cattle Decapitation tour dates here.

Show Review: Rotten Sound at The Acheron, Brooklyn, NY- May 22, 2013

Posted by NichTheHair on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10:03 AM (PST)

ROTTEN_SOUND_5_22In Dante’s Inferno, Hell is bordered by the Acheron river. Souls were ferried across this river to their eternal torture. That night in Brooklyn, Hell could have easily opened up beneath us. The shadows twisted and the lights burned dim as each of the opening bands grinded out their menacing set. With overwhelming cheer, Rotten Sound took the stage, celebrating twenty years as a band this tour. Before the room erupted, I had a chance to sit down with bassist Kristian Toivainen for a one on one. Check that interview out here.

For a full breakdown of the show, click here.

Interview: Kristian Toivainen of Rotten Sound

Posted by NichTheHair on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 8:15 AM (PST)

Kristian_Toivainen2Finland’s megalithic grind leaders Rotten Sound are touring the States in celebration of a twenty year career. While at Brooklyn’s staple for live metal, The Acheron, I spoke with bassist Kristian Toivainen. We had a nice talk over cold beers about Kickstarter, their latest release Species At War, and some current events. The show afterwards was deafeningly delightful and the opening bands really amped the crowd up for what was to be a very brutal night.

Hivesmasher goes on tour.

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:15 AM (PST)

Hivesmasher LogoMassachusetts grindcore band Hivesmasher have posted tour dates for their upcoming US tour. These lovable rapscallions released their album Gutter Choir in October of 2012 on Black Market Activities and will be kicking off their tour on May 30th at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn.

You can see a full list of tour dates here.

Hivesmasher had the following to say about the tour: ‘This tour is centered around two concepts–we like playing shows in places where we don’t live, and we like playing shows with our friends. Combining the two is perfection.

Originally, Tiger Flowers and The Binary Code proposed that we do a few dates together at the end of May beginning of June, starting in Brooklyn and heading south. Of course, we leaped at the opportunity. As soon we started working on booking those dates, Cognitive proposed three shows with us the following weekend.

Since we kinda like doing this whole touring band thing, we decided that we’d be better off staying out on the road between the two smaller runs. Since it had been just over a year since we last traveled through the Rust Belt, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get back!’

Ex-Gaza members have apparently become Cult Leader

Posted by GageT on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 8:02 AM (PST)

cult_leaderSo remember when Gaza released an awesome record last year (No Absolutes in Human Suffering) and then broke up back in March? Well, cry no more. Last night, announced through the former band’s Facebook page, every member except vocalist Jon Barkin have apparently become a new band called Cult Leader. Here’s what they had to say:

“Some of us continue to make music together. The new band is Cult Leader. Our first show is with Full of Hell, Seven Sisters of Sleep, and Rile at the The Shred Shed SLC. We’d appreciate it if you could be there, like the page, and also if you would spread the news (but from the Cult Leader page if at all possible). Thank you, and kindly continue to fuck yourselves.”
So there was clearly some kind of dispute between involved parties, but we really don’t know. Frankly, though, it doesn’t matter. Cult Leader have promised new material as soon as possible, and if last year’s Gaza record is anything to go by, it’s going to blow some minds.

Cattle Decapitation drummer David McGraw undergoes surgery in Berlin

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 6:17 AM (PST)

Cattle DecapitationSan Diego deathgrind band Cattle Decapitation’s drummer David McGraw underwent surgery for an abscess in his armpit on Monday, April 15th in Berlin, Germany. In spite of the surgery McGraw was able to play a show that evening as part of the European tour with Cryptopsy and Decrepit Birth.

You can read a quote from McGraw here: “Berlin! You rule! I had the gnarliest abscess under my arm pit, and you took care of me for only 50 [euros]. I had a full-on surgery, general anesthesia, private recovery room, everything, and I’m not even from here, just another foreigner on tour coming through town. I was treated like if I was at a private clinic. I had enough time to let the drugs wear off and made it to perform at the show tonight. I didn’t get to see any of the sights, but instead I experienced something way more meaningful to me… seriously, thank you!”

Album Review: Nails – “Abandon All Life”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 9:20 PM (PST)

“Lesser men want control. They’ll never have what I hold.”

Nails return with a true vengeance, following up the acclaimed and super grim UNSILENT DEATH with an even more intense record (maybe the meanest album of 2013 yet). “God’s Cold Hands” is everything that makes Nails so raw, an explosion of message, intent and purpose. The Kurt Ballou tracked record melds crust, hardcore and sludge so well it will crush the (few) haters who think they are a hype band.

The bass on this record really brings a level of punch and body to the songs, each tune rattling in your chest. Some riffs in life, regardless of genre, just seize the throat and don’t let go (think ‘Priests Of Sodom’ by Cannibal Corpse, ‘When All Is Said And Done’ by Napalm Death or ‘Red Tide Rising’ by Orange Goblin). This album is full of such memorable moments where you find yourself staring at the radio or whatever music playing device and not believing the awesomeness of the sounds.

“Wide Open Wound’ shows the band killing it at a slower pace, while ‘Cry Wolf’ is brevity that kills in the best way. They really…no pun intended…NAILED tempo control on this LP. And the lyrics are also direct and right to the point. “Hate won’t hide these wounds. No coming back from your abuse”

Nails are a valuable entity in the heavy music world, a reminder of what the underground is about and a violent denouncement of vapid efforts. If you want a serious meditation on constructive yet full fury filled rage release, grab this fucking now. Near indecipherable yet deep lyrics (like label-mates The Secret), gnashing teeth adrenaline levels and sick art by Farron Kerzner just make this so much more than vibe. Great work, boys.

Pig Destroyer release unheard EP in memory of Pat Egan

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 3:48 PM (PST)

massvolumeThe unfortunate passing Pat Egan (Director of Retail Sales for Relapse Records) due to complications from pneumonia last month has has really gotten people banding together to help honor his memory and support his family.  Relapse has already put out a 20 song compilation with all proceeds going straight to a college fund for Pat’s daughter and now Pig Destroyer is doing the same with an EP of unreleased material.  This is a 25 minute, 2 song EP of straight up doom that is available as a digital download only for 10 bucks.

You can find it by clicking right here.

Pig Destroyer has released the following statement on the release:

“This ep was written and recorded during the final day of the Phantom Limb sessions with unexpected extra studio time and resources. In the following years, with Natasha being released on its own and Brian no longer being in the band, our intentions of releasing Mass & Volume basically evaporated. However, looking back now, Mass & Volume serves as a great epilogue to that particular era of the band.

Pat Egan was a friend and a keystone member of the Relapse family for many of the years we have been involved with it. He devoted his life to supporting underground music and he immeasurably helped develop the bands he worked with. His untimely passing on February 18 2013 shocked the many people that his life and work had touched.

This EP is dedicated to the memory Of Pat Egan and to the loving family he left behind.  RIP Pat.”

A memorial event for Pat has also been scheduled for Tuesday March 5th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM EST at Idle Hands Bar in New York, NY. Everyone is invited to attend with all proceeds again going directly to his daughter Katie’s college fund. More information on the event can be found right here.
