Dream Theater posts new studio vid

Posted by GageT on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 8:27 AM (PST)

dreamtheater2013Since I’m apparently just in that kind of mood today, here’s more in-studio footage. This time prog legends Dream Theater have released the second video in a series documenting the creation of their upcoming self-titled record, out September 24th via Roadrunner.

The band also comments:

“Dream Theater, our first self-titled album, will be released September 24th. While that’s still a little while from now, today we released the second clip in a series documenting the making of the record. In it, John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess (along with engineer Richard Chycki) discuss their creative process and how the band holes up in the studio for months at a time to write and record. Petrucci and vocalist James LaBrie also discuss the way the lyrics come together.”

Check out the second (and first) studio vid here.

New Dream Theater record is coming on 9/24

Posted by GageT on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 8:29 AM (PST)

dreamtheater2013Renowned progressive metal outfit Dream Theater are set to release their latest record on September 24th via Roadrunner. Surprisingly, after a nearly three decade career, they’re finally doing a self-titled album. The lineup for Dream Theater is as follows: John Petrucci on guitar, John Myung on bass, James LaBrie on vocals, Jordan Rudess on keyboards and continuum, and Mike Mangini on drums. After drummer Mike Portnoy’s departure back in 2010, this is the first record to have new drummer Mangini fully integrated in the creative process.

Dream Theater was recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, with John Petrucci producing and studio luminary Richard Chycki (who has done work Aerosmith and Rush) engineering and mixing.

Petrucci had this to say about the new record:

I see every new album as an opportunity to start over. To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about Dream Theater and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

They’ll be recording at Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden with Jens Bogren (known for his worth with Opeth, Soilwork, The Devin Townsend Project, and more). This album will be the second to feature vocalist Marc Hudson, who joined the band in 2011.

Guitarist Herman Li had this to say:

“Right now, everyone in the band is itching to get into the studio to record probably the most epic DragonForce music ever written. With so many ideas flying around and songs already written, we decided to team up with producer Jens Bogren to help us take the DragonForce sound to the next level and beyond!”

Killswitch Engage headlining US tour this summer

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 9:26 AM (PST)

Killswitch-EngageBoston metalcore band Killswitch Engage have announced their first headlining U.S. tour this summer in support of their new album Disarm The Descent.  The album was recently released via Roadrunner Records.

Joining the band on tour will be As I Lay Dying, Miss May I and Affiance. The tour will kick off on May 30th in Oklahoma City and will end on July 8th in Joliet, Illinois. Click here to check out a complete list of tour dates, cities and venues.

Vocalist Jesse Leach commented on the upcoming tour:

“Everyone in the Killswitch family is excited to get out on our first U.S. headlining tour in support of our new record. We are hitting some great cities and have a great mix of songs from every era of Killswitch as well as of course a handful of new ones.”

Leach continued, “We look forward to sharing this tour with our old friends and brothers in metal As I Lay Dying. I personally have never had the chance to tour with them and I am looking forward to having such a quality band out with us to give this tour even more fire! We will also be joined by a talented and up-and-coming band Miss May I and a new band we’re all excited to see live called Affiance. Thanks to all the U.S. fans for your support! Our live show will be full-on energy with all of us ready to take this to a whole new level.”

Bassist Mike D. concurred saying, “We are super excited to be back out with our good buds in As I Lay Dying! They are some of our favorite dudes to hang with on the road, so assumptions are high that utter chaos shall ensue. There will be so much metal riffage — you could build your own Carnival Cruse Ship. That’s right, ‘CHUGGA CHUGGA Paralysis’ is surely imminent.”
