Technical death metal pioneers DEEDS OF FLESH return after a seven year hiatus with their 9th studio album Nucleus, set for release via Unique Leader Records on 11th December 2020 (Vinyl release 15th January 2021). The band's first release since the tragic passing of guitarist / vocalist and Unique Leader founder Erik Lindmark, who lost a battle with sclerosis in 2018, Nucleus features guest performances some of the biggest names in extreme metal to celebrate his life and contribution to metal. Vocalist Jacoby Kingston is joined by members of Pathology, Gorguts, Dying Fetus, Submerged, Decrepit Birth and more. With a mix of the old and new style of DEEDS OF FLESH writing, this album is the completion of a story that began with Of What's to Come (2008) and ran through Portals to Canaan (2013). The music was written by Erik Lindmark (RIP), Craig Peters, Ivan Munguia and Darren Cesca, and had been recorded and partially mixed for almost four years. When Erik Lindmark passed in 2018, vocalist Jacoby Kingston came out of retirement to help finish the album. Alongside long-time drummer Mike Hamilton, they finished the story arc, wrote the lyrics and made the vocal arrangements for Nucleus.

The hardcore and metal community are in shock and very sad from the breaking news that legendary NYHC guitarist Todd Youth has passed away. He leaves behind a legacy of creativity that saved countless people’s lives. Hardcore will never be the same.
Todd’s Fireburn bandmate Ras Israel Joseph I (also of Bad Brains Rise fame ) posted on Facebook:
On the passing of my friend, and my Brother Todd Youth
There are no words to express how sad I am at the passing of my brother Todd Youth. The music he made will forever be remembered, and I’m so thankful that I was able to work with him and that we created Fireburn together. Todd and I were living separate lives doing hardcore and reggae music. We met each other in 1992 and then never spoke again until 2017. We created Fireburn within two weeks of knowing each other and finished writing two of my favorite hardcore records that I ever worked on: “Don’t stop the youth”, and “Shine”. Closed casket records signed the band and we were on our way. We had great shows and lots of people showed up to them. We toured with gbh from England, hung out with the guys from Negative Approach, and got our blessings about our music and our records from the Bad Brains. I know that Todd is now resting in peace and I know that Krishna is taking his soul to a better place. He was a devout Hari Krishna and The Devout human being. Todd wherever you are I hope that we will make music again one day. Life is a circle and I know I’ll meet you again in that circle brother. We will meet again. Rest In Peace, Rest In Power, rest my brother. I am saddened that we cannot make music again together, but I am happy that you are finally going home to be with Krishna that Haile Selassie has finally giving you peace and comfort my brother. one day, I too will lay down and die. This body that I ware is temporary. I will probably be alone. They’re probably be no one around me. However I know that I will join you and all of our other friends in that good place and we’ll all see each other again. I’m sorry you died Todd. I’m sorry I can’t see you again. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to help you. You are my friend and my brother and I love you. Rest in peace my brother. May your visit to our Heavenly Home be full of peace, and comfort, and closeness to Krishna. Haribo. Haile Selassie I. FIREBURN.

Today is a extremely sad day for the NYHC Scene. Our friend, brother and early member of Agnostic Front Todd Youth has passed. This is a very hard time for his immediate family and those that were close to him, so we ask that you please respect his family by giving them the space they need as they move through the initial stages of this tragedy. There is still a lot unknown, in the meantime thank you for respecting their wishes. Rest In Peace my brother, please say hi to Raybeez for me ?

Man, Season 3 Episode 4 of Daredevil with the jail situation was stressssful af! Please stream that show so it does NOT get the axe like Iron Fist and Luke Cage did just as they were really hitting their groove! WTF they are just gonna sleep on Daughters of The Dragon now or Heroes For Hire? This is some bullshit, Marvel! Anyhow, here for some random metal items and to send some love out there to the LGBTQAI folk in the scene today who need support after a horrible 24 hours in this bad dream. Let’s get down to it.
Ozzy has been recovering from an infection but now we have the great news of a big New Year’s Eve Ozzfest Celebration for the big lunk. WE LOVE YOU OZZY!!! Body Count, Marilyn, Rob Zombie and Jonathan from Korn’s solo band along with the Ozz-meister himself are gonna make sure it is a night fans will remember for many years to come. I have a feeling this will be a historical concert in metal history as time passes. Info below!
I wish Ozzfest was still a huge full summer tour. I know it had some bands too “mainstream” for some cooler than thou types, but I for one think the scene benefits from bigger tentpole bands as it allows smaller bands to open for them. My friends Gizmachi played one year. I first saw Killswitch with Howard there. Lots of good memories. Plus, there are a lot of bands Ozzy has supported over the years big and small on the festival who I like still to this day from Mudvayne to Kittie to Neurosis. Who remembers Drain STH? Right on. Metal is a big enough tent for all kinds of bands (except Nazis).

Samsara from Catharsis is now on Bandcamp along with pretty much every Crimethinc release! This is awesome. Blasting “The Evolution of Dying” as we speak to celebrate.
Next up, I wanted to thank some trans folks and some allies in the scene (or really anyone who falls in that category during these times or ever). Trump is trying to erase trans people’s rights to exist as we KNEW he would. Well, most of us who aren’t super gullible at least.
just remembering this gem of a take this morning https://t.co/9eOq9abb7p

Anyway, I made a little video today (below) and want to also suggest you read this thread and support the Equality Act! It will make this kind of bs much harder to do to marginalized communities. Please support artists and regular trans people in your communities (binary, enby or whatever) and educate yourself to defeat tired talking points with ease. And ASK how you can help? I am lucky and have several platforms as well as a very supportive community but these are also hard times with rights threatened and not everyone is in the same boat.
Thanks trans folk + allies in scene @JessieRaeFisher @MinaCaputo @otepofficial @PopeRichard @globelamp @gileadmedia @eyehatethou @kngwmn @Doomstress + others. Not all have a platform like them so if you care please ask how you can help. Self discovery matters! #wewillnotbeerased pic.twitter.com/PLdRYfgZ6r

Ozzy Osbourne has now cancelled the remaining four shows on his North American “No More Tours 2.” Following additional evaluation from his doctors, Osbourne will likely require another surgery in the coming days to treat multiple infections in his right hand.
The four cancelled shows were originally scheduled as follows: Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA (October 6), Mattress Firm Amphitheatre in Chula Vista (October 9), the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (October 11) and MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (October 13). The three California shows had previously been rescheduled following his initial prognosis from doctors. All four shows will be rescheduled for 2019.
“I’m so fu**ing bummed about cancelling these shows,” Osbourne says. “The tour had been going great and we were really looking forward to these last few gigs. We’re hoping everyone will be patient and we’ll look forward to seeing them at the shows next year.”
Ticketholders for the four shows should hold on to their tickets, as they will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Refunds are also available at point of purchase.

I was listening to Epica’s The Quantum Enigma today kind of baked and driving in the intense gray rain, the passionate performances and unabashed soaring complexity of the material inspiring me as Upstate, NY’s dampened fall colors blurred by under a wet obfuscating temporary canopy of droplets. The song “Victims Of Contingency” hit me powerfully and re-centered my focus on the mantra that time is a special, fleeting yet permament construct. What we do in our limited moments become our choices and how we lived. It is so simple but we overlook this out of the familiarity of routine daily, even as we are constantly surrounded by so many miracles and options it is a wonder anyone ever decides to “BE” anything.
Anyhow, that said I love when people are decisive and make bold artistic statements and this year has been loaded with them, from the assuredly high constitution rolling persistence of Anicon’s ferocious and focused Entropy Mantra to the compositional and emotive brilliance of Oceans of Slumber’s The Banished Heart to the groove metal activism of Otep’s Kult 45. Whether the emotional performances/beauty in the branches between spare folk and acoustic black metal simplicity is your bag or being inspired to be the next Dimmu and you aim for extremely elaborate compositions, here is some respect for the artists out there. We toast you with a cup of my liberal tears (which only make me more Goth, eternal win. Take that, chumps).
Oh that reminds me, anyone want to start a cover band of pre-Born Again Dave era Megadeth called Magadeth and we cover just “Foreclosure Of A Dream” and early Metallica songs and make fun of Alex Jones and people who think Obama was behind False Flags instead of, y’know, rampant lack of rational gun control being a cause in rising and alarming gun violence trends and school/public shootings? Kanye was visiting Trumpy with Kid Rock today, so I guess racism is solved. Guess what, stooges? The only invisible wall (to quote Ye) is gonna be the one on the border we don’t allow to be built as vile stain on our nation’s alleged love of diversity.
Where was I? Cool metal stuff to tell you about today to underscore my point about this fertile scene of special decisive statement making artists! Actually most of us have anxiety but that doesn’t mean the albums always sound like it!
First up, speaking of Oceans Of Slumber (a serious album of the year contender at the moment), they are selling the ONLY backdrop from their Winter era at Big Cartel! This is a cool opportunity for a dedicated fan to have a major piece of the band’s history. I would snatch it up if I had the scratch for sure! \m/

In bummer news for them (and great news for Visceral Disgorge) Soreption have had to drop out of their slot on the Farewell Frank Suffocation Tour. Cattle Decap shared a tweet letting fans know that the tour line up had changed. I mean, I assume other bands shared that info also but I stan Cattle Decap the most so saw it there first, haha. Fucking Krisiun is on that tour as well. Christ, that is a bad ass line up even with a little switch-around. Let’s support!
Unfortunately due to Visa Issues @Soreption is forced to step down from the tour. Taking their place in the lineup will be @VisceralDisgorg We wish the best to Soreption but we know that Visceral Disgorge will not disappoint!!!

Here for a little reminder that today is National Coming Out Day, a tweet on the subject from our account:
#NationalComingOutDay the punk/metal scene IS a place for queer perspectives. You wouldn’t have either genre without influencial gay outsider culture. Thanks @otepofficial for making me feel confident to come out as bi during a chat years ago. And enby last year. ?️????
— MetalRiot.com (@MetalRiot) October 11, 2018
Huge high fives and horns to queer creators and fans out there. Sing Priest’s Turbo as loud as you can into a shower head today at some point. We love you all. Remind people that The Sex Pistols wouldn’t have had such a cultural impact if it weren’t for the UK Club scene and fashion attitudes, thanks! XO.
Lastly today, CHTHONIC have a new video out for “A Crimson Sky’s Command”!
With many tracks from CHTHONIC’s fresh Battlefields of Asura album being associated with different Taiwanese gods and goddesses, “A Crimson Sky’s Command” was inspired by the god of war “Te-ia-kong”, or “Xuantian Shangdi” in Mandarin. The lyrics naturally takes on warpath and aggressiveness, however, frontman Freddy Lim states that “on top of the imagery at the face value, it also represents the courage we need to face, confront and overcome our own weakness”.

Agonia Records, one of our favorite extreme labels around here, are working with the Greek band Lucifer’s Child. If you haven’t heard of them the group consists of vocalist Marios Dupont (Karma Violens) and drummer Nick Vell (Chaostar), George Emmanuel (ex-Chaostar), Stathis Ridis (a member of another long-running Hellenic metal unit, Nightfall).
Now they’ve released new single “The Order” in the form of a music video directed by George Koimisis and the band themselves. It’s the title track from the band’s fothrcoming album, set to be released on November 9th via Agonia Records. Watch the video HERE.Add to My Radar
London heavy metal bruisers Amulet announce the addition of talented new permanent singer Federico “Mace” Mazza and finish writing second album.
Mace joined in early Summer following a successful show supporting Cirith Ungol and Angel Witch at The Underworld in Camden in May 2018. Since that show the new line-up have been working hard with Mace to finish writing their long-gestating second album. The band are excited about the addition of his powerful pipes and confident about the 12 heavy new songs they are preparing. Mace has lived in London for several years and has fronted tasty Italian metal act Asgard since a teenager 15 years ago. He replaces original singer Jamie Elton who moved to Sweden in 2016. Amulet said farewell to Jamie with a German tour in June 2018.Add to My Radar
Canadian heavy metal trio CAULDRON will drop their New Gods full-length this Friday via The End Records in North America and Dissonance Productions in Europe. Crowned, “a classic heavy metal ripper,” by Metal Injection, the band’s fifth full-length and follow up to the acclaimed 2016 offering In Ruin was captured by Chris Stringer (Timber Timbre, Wooden Sky) at Union Sound in Toronto and again highlights the band’s now-signature strong emphasis on songwriting and melody, complete with high-end organic production to match.
Stream New Gods in full alongside an interview with frontman Jason Decay courtesy of New Noise Magazine, at THIS LOCATION.
CAULDRON’s New Gods will be available on CD, digital, and vinyl formats. For preorders go to THIS LOCATION.
In conjunction with the release of New Gods, CAULDRON will be playing a handful of US shows in with support provided by (the quite excellent) Barrow Wight this week. The band has also confirmed a special record release show in their hometown of Toronto, set for September 15th at Junction City Music Hall. See all confirmed dates below.Add to My Radar
MARTY FRIEDMAN‘s presence in the world of music, the world of guitar, and Japanese pop culture is mystifying, bizarre, and nothing short of inspiring. His 14th solo album, ONE BAD M.F. Live!!--set for release October 19 on Prosthetic Records–is an all-out celebration of his music in its rawest form. Recorded live during his 2018 “Wall of Sound” tour on its final show in Mexico City at Centro Cultural on April 14, 2018, ONE BAD M.F. Live!! is chock full of his own brand of “feelgood aggression.”
He’ll celebrate the release of ONE BAD M.F. Live!! in Los Angeles, CA at the Viper Room on October 21. It’s the only U.S. show he will do in 2018, but at this show, he will officially announce the details of a full scale 2019 U.S. and Europe tour. Tickets are now on sale here.
As seen in the first live music video which premiered today on GuitarWorld.com, “Whiteworm,” FRIEDMAN and his band–Kiyoshi (bass), Jordan Ziff (guitar), Chargeeee (drums)–are all smiles and are in constant interaction with the audience, pouncing on the rhythms and playing such addictive melodies that one doesn`t miss a vocalist for a moment.

I can’t really write too much right now. I am super fucking sad to learn from Brendon Small’s twitter account that Jill Janus of Huntress fame has gone to the great gig in the sky. She was an AMAZING talent, able to hold her own beside legends and add several fun and powerful new albums to the history of metal. She will forever be a cult metal figure and was an awesome person. She was an animal and mental health advocate and deserved so much more. I was a really big fan and am super upset. Gonna light a candle for her. It was a fun honor to interview her a few years ago and something I will always be thankful I got to experience, especially when we could discuss how cancer affected our lives. Her fucking vocal pipes were no joke and I truly believe she was one of the best. RIP Jill.
It is with crushed hearts that we announce that Jill Janus—frontwoman for the California heavy metal band…
No, not Thanos. Thanatos. Oh, forget it. Just trying to sound metal. What does not have to try to ‘sound’ metal because it is metal af already is our first subjects today, the folks in Porcelain Helmet. No, they are not literally wearing them!
Porcelain Helmet are a quite young band from the Hudson Valley, my neck of the woods. These young thrashers have already managed to befriend Scott Ian, release a cd, get on friggin’ Metallum, and generally kick up some dust! Metal is now a multi-generational genre and we need the youth to rise and keep it going as well, especially as old guard bands retire or heroes die or rock n roll is the musical underdog once more on the world stage. Show this band some love and make them feel inspired to keep mixing it up in the metal ranks. Lot of potential!
And now news from the older generation! Legendary heavy metal guitarist Craig Goldy has an exciting new project Dream Child for classic metal fans. Dream Child is the brainchild of Goldy, and features Wayne Findlay, Simon Wright, Rudy Sarzo and Diego Valdez. Simon Wright slams! Sarzo is such a cool person and is very cool to fans on Twitter. It was the honor of a lifetime for me as a DIO fanatic to get to open for Dio Disciples once in my old metal/rock band Antidote 8 a few years back and to see him shred live.
It is pretty insane how close to Dio that Diego sounds at times. The band are hell bent on making a splash and having some heavy metal fun with Until Death Do We Meet Again, out on Frontiers in September (the 14th).
Goldy says ,”During the very first public memorial for our most beloved Ronnie James Dio, I had mentioned that whenever I do start writing original material again that I would utilize everything that I had learned from working side by side with the Master for so many years in such a way that I would hope to make him proud….and here it is! The name is inspired by one of his lyrics on the “Dream Evil” album and the nickname he gave me at the time, Dream Child!”
“Until Death Do We Meet Again” track listing:
01. Under The Wire
02. You Can’t Take Me Down
03. Game Of Shadows
04. It Is What It Is
05. Playin’ With Fire
06. Light Of The Dark
07. Midnight Song
08. Until Death Do We Meet Again
09. Washed Upon The Shore
10. In A World So Cold
11. Weird World
12. One Step Beyond The Grave
Dang, Grave Digger have some strong merch game! The band are releasing their 20th album soon called The Living Dead via Napalm! I was listening to King Diamond’s perfect metal album Abigail today and so the Grave Digger record’s new evil kid from Hell cover art is not much of a leap for my current mental state. I love how the first lyric video sounds like it is saying “screaming for whengeance”. That rules. There is also a killer anthem called “The Power Of Metal” on the new record which the veteran band were fucking born to write! And they certainly have earned the right! Fans are gonna be really into this record, trust me! Almost four decades of German Heavy Metal from this band! Respect! \m/

Hello my Hell spawned goons. Hope your lives are gonna be unshitty as we move through some weird astrology shit the next few days. I have a LOT of cool news for ya.
We fucking LOVE Monte Pittman around here. The ex-Prong and current Madonna axe man is a fucking riff maniac and a super cool guy, truly a gifted metal and hard rock player with his solo band and honestly creative and inspiring on anything he goes near. Now we have the very cool word on the street that he is gonna be touring with Sebastian Bach! Just saw Bach in Poughkeepsie a week or so back and it fucking rocked (read a review HERE)! I can imagine that this pairing is gonna get some fists pumping and kick major ass all around.
Set to commence September 26th and run through November 3rd, the trek, which includes additional support from One Bad Son, will find Pittman supporting two new solo albums, Better Or Worse and Between The Space, set for release via Metal Blade Records. See all confirmed dates below.
