Video: Dragonforce – The making of “The Power Within” Part 1

Posted by SeanB on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 8:15 PM (PST)

Epic Metal powerhouse Dragonforce have just released part one in the series of “making of” videos for their upcoming album The Power Within.  You can see the video right here.

Dragonforce have also released a new song called “Fallen World” from the album that we have included with the making of video.

The Power Within is set for release April 17, 2012 via Roadrunner Records.  It will be the follow up to 2008’s Ultra Beatdown and their fifth studio release.

Guitarist Herman Li recently had this to say about the album:

“The last two years have been the most fun we ever had making an album. Through writing, jamming and touring together, we have built this incredible energy and it has been fully captured on the new album. This time around we’ve really brought our metal side to the surface and made some of the best music of our career. From the fastest song we’ve ever recorded to the slower songs, and some things you would never expect from us, this is by far the most diverse Dragonforce album yet. This is an exciting new era for Dragonforce with Marc joining the band, so we figured this was an ideal time to take full control of our own destiny and establish our own record label for Europe. It’s all hands on deck running it, but a great buzz!”

Mike Portnoy joining Fates Warning for South American Date

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:53 AM (PST)

Adrenaline Mob/Transatlantic drummer and former Dream Theater/Avenged Sevenfold drummer Mike Portnoy will be sitting in for Bobby Jarzombek of Fates Warning on April 14th for their show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Fates Warning has made it clear that this is a one time fill in and Bobby Jarzombek will remain their drummer and will be playing on their upcoming European tour and album. The band released the following statement:

“We’re pleased and excited to announce that Mike Portnoy will be our special guest drummer for our April 14th show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. We had a great time playing with Mike back in 2005 at the Headway festival in Holland and we’re happy that he’s able to help us out again. We’d also like to make it clear that Bobby Jarzombek is still the drummer for Fates and will be with us for our European shows in March as well as on the new record we’re currently working on. Unfortunately, Bobby committed to another gig on the same day (ironically, in the same city) before this show was planned.”

All that has been revealed is that the album is being called The Power Within, being released under the band’s own Electric Generation Recordings, and you can click here to see a larger image of the cover art and the track listing.

Well, that and the fact that Dragonforce guitarist Herman Li had this to say about the new album:

Today is a sad day in the world of heavy metal.  Mark Reale, guitarist and founding member of the legendary heavy metal band RIOT passed away yesterday.  His passing was the result of a life long and courageous battle with Crohn’s disease.

Mark was tragically only 57 years young and had reportedly been in a coma since early January as a result of a subarachnoid hemorrhage.  This is especially heartbreaking becauese Mark was trying to practice with the band so he could perform right before his condition worsened.

Even though Nightwish is hard at work recording their new album Imaginaerum, frontwoman Anette Olzon took some time out to contribute guest vocals to fellow Finnish metalheads Swallow The Sun’s new song “Cathedral Walls”.  The song is taken from their forthcoming album Emerald City and the Blackbirds set to be released February 1st on Spinefarm Records.  A video for the song has been released, although Anette fails to make an appearance.  Most likely she’s too busy working on the new Nightwish album.  The video can be seen here.

Nightwish’s upcoming album Imaginaerum is set to be released Jan 10th on Nuclear Blast Records.
