Death metal contingent ABIOTIC have returned with an exciting new pending release, Ikigai.

The album will be released on Friday, February 12th, 2021 via The Artisan Era. Cover art was handled by Caelan Stokkermans known for his work with Soreption, Cattle Decapitation, and Fires in the Distance. Abiotic – Ikigai was engineered, produced, mixed, and mastered by Tony Simone at Zenbeast Media. Vocals were recorded and produced by Nick Loiacono at Fang Studios.

Abiotic guitarist John Matos comments on the development of Ikigai
“Our intention behind Ikigai was to come back with a vengeance. As it has been over 5 years since our last release, we wanted to put together the most cohesive, diverse, deep, and brain shattering record we possibly could and I feel like we’ve achieved that and more with this album. Having written this over the course of the last couple of years and finishing this record during a pandemic, the feelings we sought to bring out with this record; pain, grief, desperation, and perseverance are palpable in every note, every chord, and every word, with lyrics touching on topics of suicide, depression, addiction, climate change and the struggle of finding our reason for being.

We wanted to make this record real and relatable in every sense. This album is without a doubt the best material we’ve ever put together, with brand new elements, and a production/mix that has taken our sound to new heights. The addition of Tony Simone and Kilian Duarte solidified this. We decided to include a variety of guests that we’ve always wanted to collaborate with, like Trevor Strnad, Chaney Crabb, Brandon Ellis, Scott Carstairs, Jared Smith, and Jonathan Carpenter, and are beyond excited for everyone to hear them.

We really wanted to push the boundaries of what fans expect from us while giving them the signature sound we’ve honed in that they’ve come to love. Personally, Ikigai is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life, especially after not knowing if the band was ever going to come back. But we’re back. And we’re here to stay.”

Interview- John Matos of Abiotic

Posted by NichTheHair on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 5:13 PM (PST)

Aboitic‘s John Matos and I had an opportunity to talk about some recent news in their camp. Miami’s Abiotic have been signed to Metal Blade for just under three years and are touring in support of their debut Symbiosis. Falling somewhere in the extremely technical apocalyptic realm of Florida death metal, this five piece has been touring relentlessly and shredding all in their path. Most recently, they completed a tour with Dying Fetus, Exhumed, and Rivers of Nihil. Their live show was tightly rehearsed and they put on a hand grenade of a show.

Shrediculous: Album Review: Abiotic- “Symbiosis”

Posted by NichTheHair on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 12:03 PM (PST)

Miami’s Abiotic just punched me in the face when Symbiosis finally dropped. This album is their debut on the all-powerful Metal Blade Records, but it is more a re-recording of their EP, A Universal Plague. I feel like my beer milk money was taken after the initial familiarity kicked in with its intro track, Metamorphilia. If you happened to be one of the early adopters and already had the preceding album, you might feel jilted as I do.

Regardless, this album is fucking mind bending. Click here for the full review.

The Bigs: Abiotic enter studio for Metal Blade debut

Posted by NichTheHair on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 12:16 PM (PST)

Miami’s Abiotic are stepping into the big league. The progressive death rookies are beginning to record their first full-length album next week. Previously in the southeast, they have thrown themselves into venue after venue to infect and spread their EP, A Universal Plague. Previously in the southwest, someone at Metal Blade heard it and bam. Abiotic is picked up this month by the mighty Metal Blade Records, toting a multi-record, worldwide deal.

If you live down Florida way, chances are you can catch them on tour this month and next. Other wise, watch this nasty video for their song Vermosapien in anticipation of more to come here.
