While the rock and metal world reeled last week from the death of the iconic Chris Cornell, thankfully this week is starting off with a reminder that metal, punk and rock will not only never die but has many disciples still here to help carry the torch forward. From UFOMAMMUT’s clobbering new “Warsheep”, to Davey Suicide’s gutter glammy “No Angel”  to Silverstein’s screamo charged “Retrograde”, let’s celebrate that rock still comes in many styles. That said, if you want to kick off your week hard may we recommend you take a big fat Finnish kick in the crotch from grindcore heroes Rotten Sound this Monday. “Thrashmonger” is here and gone in just over a minute but will open your eyes like Uma getting some of that Pulp Fiction adrenaline.

Check it out below and keep the faith.

Show Review: Rotten Sound at The Acheron, Brooklyn, NY- May 22, 2013

Posted by NichTheHair on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10:03 AM (PST)

ROTTEN_SOUND_5_22In Dante’s Inferno, Hell is bordered by the Acheron river. Souls were ferried across this river to their eternal torture. That night in Brooklyn, Hell could have easily opened up beneath us. The shadows twisted and the lights burned dim as each of the opening bands grinded out their menacing set. With overwhelming cheer, Rotten Sound took the stage, celebrating twenty years as a band this tour. Before the room erupted, I had a chance to sit down with bassist Kristian Toivainen for a one on one. Check that interview out here.

Kristian_Toivainen2Finland’s megalithic grind leaders Rotten Sound are touring the States in celebration of a twenty year career. While at Brooklyn’s staple for live metal, The Acheron, I spoke with bassist Kristian Toivainen. We had a nice talk over cold beers about Kickstarter, their latest release Species At War, and some current events. The show afterwards was deafeningly delightful and the opening bands really amped the crowd up for what was to be a very brutal night.
