EYEHATEGOD Spring Tour 2022 announced

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 7:06 AM (PST)

Gravel throated sewer blues pirates EYEHATEGOD have announced a string of dates (for after their Clutch tour) with an array of co-conspirators. The tour will be including Bat, Come To Grief, (who just announced their debut album) , Escuela Grind and Snafu. This will, to put it simply, ensure a killer combo no matter which date(s) you attend. Having recently seen Escuela Grind demolish a small crowd in Poughkeepsie, I can say that this is gonna certainly rule.

Sludge legends and poetic vagrants of the psychic wounds of humanity, EYEHATEGOD are fucking underground blues metal punk pirates of the truest order. The band have set a March 12 release date for the band’s first new full-length album in seven years, A History of Nomadic Behavior.

Singer Mike IX Williams said of the songs on the album, “We’re not a political band, but it was hard not to be affected by the news from the past year. During this recording, I thought a lot about how stupid humanity has become and how America is now completely divided with these people who don’t believe in science and blindly follow liars and nonsensical ideologies. Some of those feelings may have found their way into these songs, but it is mostly subliminal.”

A History of Nomadic Behavior follows a period that saw the New Orleans based band on the road for three years, preceded by Williams suffering liver failure and a transplant. “We toured our asses off for three years and that’s where A History of Nomadic Behavior basically comes from,” adds Williams before touching on his health challenge: “Death is a part of life, it’s a roll of the dice. Sometimes you take life as it comes, other times you fight to stay alive.” The album was produced by Eyehategod, Sanford Parker (Yob, Voivod) and James Whitten (Thou, High on Fire), with mixing by Whitten. The band recorded at HighTower Recording and Hypercube studios.

Album pre-orders are available now ( Get on that shit now.

We are lucky to live in a time where you can’t step out of your puke infested snake basket without tripping over a grimy sounding band. From Haxen to Misery Kills to Sourvein, the darkness of raw metal and hardcore music is more pervasive than ever. Eyehategod still pretty much take the crown for intense,  blues and junk punk/sludge that will eat you alive or set you free. “Medicine Noose” from their last self-titled record is case in point. From the second the tune opens with a classic sounding EHG feedback ring, you know you’re about to get buried in hell and brimstone.

The veteran band are hitting the road for a Spring run to make some freshly bloomed flowers die. Hopefully no dates will be cancelled, but this band is rock n roll as fuck to the day and so there are no certainties in life. Is there a band more befitting our current American shit show? I think not.

Album Review: Eyehategod – S/T

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 4:29 PM (PST)

The new self titled monster from Eyehategod is pretty much precisely what you’d expect, sludgy ass swamp music from hell with vocals that sound like shredded flesh ground between broken bottles and a boot heel. If there is one thing this band is, it is consistent musically. Long stretches of feedback, nihilistic and satirical song titles, confrontational imagery exposing the hypocrisy of religious hate…it’s all there. All of their albums are pretty much equally as good, with the songs almost coming in second place to the overall mood or aesthetic experience. Nonetheless, they will pummel you raw. Opener “Agitation! Propaganda!” starts things off in a faster mode but soon we are knee deep in southern mud with brain bleeders like “Nobody told Me” or the standout and awesomely titled “Trying to Crack the Hard Dollar”, a song that will make your neck and shoulders tense up.

“Quitter’s Offensive” is a shuffling downcast scrapper that sounds like stumbling down the street wasted. EHG are masters of taking blues roots and bastardizing them into the most gutter pain doom referencing punk metal imaginable. There is a reason crust punks and metalheads alike give them props in a way few bands except for Motorhead and Crass or maybe Napalm Death receive. It’s a testament to the band’s iron will and cockroach survival sense…even after the unexpected death of drummer Joey LaCaze. Joey’s final drum tracks are on this record and it gives me chills to think about. Shit, I found his cell phone number from an old interview in my phone awhile back and it was heavy.

“Worthless Rescue” starts with that vintage EHG feedback you know and love, before their 118th nasty riff takes you south. “Medicine Noose”, “Parish Motel Sickness” or “Robitussin and Rejection”, the titles say it all. Mike iX is a poet of the downtrodden and disenchanted, even when you can’t understand a fucking word he is saying. But really, the guy is like a prophetic force. See them live at the moment on tour with Ringworm and the explosive newcomers Enabler.

Props to Phil Anselmo for recording this at his studio Nodferatu’s Lair and subsequently releasing this on Housecore, really the truest home for EHG these days. While it isn’t my favorite release from the band (that would be the unfuckwithable Dopesick or perhaps Confedaracy of Ruined Lives…always a toss up), the new S/T record is proof Eyehategod haven’t lost a drop of anti-social bile.

Eyehategod return with “Agitation! Propaganda!”

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 4:29 PM (PST)

Following countless years of personal hardships, studio disasters and times of music industry indecision, New Orleans’ own EYEHATEGOD, with much relief and excitement, are proud to announce the release of their brand new full-length! Entirely assembled and financed by the band, the self-titled, eleven-track long player will be released on May 27th by their partners at Housecore Records in North America, May 26th by Century Media in Europe, Australia and New Zealand and May 21st by Daymare in Japan.

Comments vocalist Mike IX Williams, “I have to say I don’t believe we’ve lost nary a step in the creation of this album and we think these newer songs are a killer combination of classic EYEHATEGOD mixed along with our best production, mixing, engineering and songwriting in thirteen years. The main and total tragic break in the chain, was obviously last year’s death of our great friend and drummer, Joey LaCaze. However, his original drum tracks made it onto the final master recordings and we’re fucking psyched about that… As for working with Housecore, it was a no-brainer. We’ve always been a family, and will always remain a family.”

Adds Housecore founder Philip H. Anselmo, “Being a part of the new EHG record is a dream come true. I’ve known, supported and loved the guys for almost as long as I’ve been playing music myself, and it is our pleasure here at The Housecore Records Compound to have ’em aboard. And I gotta mention, having heard the new record, this is the EYEHATEGOD record every true fan has been waiting for…. Hail!”

Check out  the new lyric video for “Agitation! Propaganda!”

now playing at this LOCATION.

As a precursor to the release, EYEHATEGOD will play a special one-off show with High On Fire, Corrosion Of Conformity, Magrudergrind, Strong Intention and Ilsa at the Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland on April 27th. For more info, point your browser HERE.

Cattle Decap prepare new slab of Gore

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 2:11 AM (PST)

Cattle Decapitation has begun the writing process for the follow up to 2012’s Monolith of Inhumanity, which has been lauded as the band’s finest and most complex release to date.

“Since we got home from THE SUMMER SLAUGHTER TOUR the guys have been hard at work on new material! I actually go in next week to grab a quick run through of the first new track they have completed so I can start writing lyrics to it. I have heard the track and I hate to say anything just yet because we will be spending the next full year from now working on the next album, but I will say the stuff they’re working on is intense. I can’t wait to start writing lyrics to it and so far is in league with one of our current musical aspirations… to make fans of our last record shit themselves! We’ll be taking a small break to play a few shows in our region with EYEHATEGOD on their January tour!” – Travis Ryan (Vox/Gurgles)

Cattle Decapitation’s next album is tentatively due out early 2015. Stay tuned to both the band and label’s sites for more updates on the new record and future tour dates. Tread with glee through the land of the severed meatus, friends!
