Album Review: Demon Hunter – “True Defiance”

Posted by JDKleinhans on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 6:55 PM (PST)

It’s been a few years since I’ve enjoyed the pleasures of hunting demons but back when I was an avid and professional hunter, I never left the hunting lodge without a little Demon Hunter in my ears to keep me sharp and focused. A mere two years after 2010’s The World Is A Thorn, Solid State‘sDemon Hunter are ready to send the agents of the horde back to the planes of Hell with True Defiance.

Alright, enough of the hunting and demon referencing shenanigans. Head on over here for the full review.

New Music: Demon Hunter – “Wake”

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 7:16 AM (PST)

Seattle metalcore act Demon Hunter have unveiled one more single to coincide with the release of their newest album True Defiance.  The song is called “Wake” and you can listen to it right here.

When asked about the song, frontman Ryan Clark had the following to say:

“‘Wake’ is another song that explores all the best elements of the band.  It’s very riff heavy, vocally melodic, extremely aggressive, grooving, and features some of the best drumming on the record. This song takes what some might consider the standard Demon Hunter vocal structure and flips it- the verses are melodic singing, and the screaming takes place in the chorus. I think those tweaks in the structure make it a unique DH song.  Lyrically, it’s about a person’s fear of the unknown… or the coming to terms with one’s mortality and spiritual life… digging deeper that a daily surface existence or ‘waking’ out of the ritualistic/mundane day-to-day.”

Demon Hunter have released three other songs from the album prior to this that you can find links to right here.

True Defiance is available now on Solid State Records and is a follow up to 20120’s The World Is A Thorn.

Demon Hunter release “My Destiny” music video

Posted by KageDrummer on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 12:55 PM (PST)

Washington metalcore outfit, Demon Hunter, have released the official music video for their song “My Destiny” off their upcoming album “True Defiance.” The music video was directed by Robby Starbuck. Frontman Ryan Clark has stated:

The storyline follows five teenagers as they try to make the most of their dull suburb community – skateboarding, hanging with friends, stirring up trouble, discovering music together. This was how a lot of us in the band grew up. For the performance footage, we wanted to do something that hinted at the ‘early days’ of being in a band – rehearsing in a tiny, grungy practice space, inspirational posters on the wall, fluorescent lights overhead, minimal space, and lots of sweat.

“True Defiance” will be released April 10th through Solid State Records.

Demon Hunter release second single from upcoming album “True Defiance”

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 6:19 AM (PST)

Seattle metalheads Demon Hunter have just released a new single called “My Destiny”.  The song is taken from their highly anticipated new album True Defiance and can be found streaming right here.

True Defiance is due for release April 10, 2012 on Solid State Records and will be the band’s first release since 2010’s The World Is A Thorn.  Frontman Ryan Clark had this to say about the new record:

“We’ve been extremely underwhelmed with metal for the last five years or so, and that’s been the fuel to create this record,” Clark explains. “With an extreme over-saturation of false, fleeting, trend-hopping noise in today’s metal scene, we had to make something we’ve been longing to hear. Something truly meaningful and artistic. Something our fans would love and something that will turn the heads of those who have ignored us for the past decade.”

Demon Hunter release first single from upcoming album “True Defiance”

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 7:17 AM (PST)

Seattle metal heads Demon Hunter have released a single called “Someone To Hate”. It’s taken from their highly anticipated upcoming release, True Defiance. The album is due out April 10, 2012 on Solid State Records.

You can read more on the release here.

Demon Hunter frontman Ryan Clark had this to say about the song:

“‘Someone To Hate’ feels like a perfect first-glimpse at the new record, at one point we were even debating on it being the album opener. It’s definitely a thrash song, but with a Demon Hunter twist. I think fans will dig it because it has a lot of classic DH elements, but it really pushes each of those elements to the max. It’s fast, it’s mean, it’s unapologetic… but of course, it has moments of melody as well.”

Seattle metalcore band Demon Hunter have released the cover artwork of their upcoming album True Defiance. The band has revealed three varieties of cover artwork on their Facebook page, which you can check out right here. New and old fans can check out the artwork in exchange for “Like”-ing their page.

With Demon Hunter, the album artwork carries just as much of a creative and personal significance as the music. Artwork and imagery have been paramount ever since the band’s symbol first appeared on t-shirts and stickers in 2002.

The album art was created by Ryan Clark, frontman and co-owner of Grammy nominated design firm Invisible Creature, along with his brother and former Demon Hunter guitarist Don Clark. It was illustrated by Angryblue (Korn, Bleeding Through, Acacia Strain).

Frontman Clark commented on the album artwork:

“Anyone that knows DEMON HUNTER, understands that the visual element of the band means a great deal to us. Every album cover is a challenge, in that it’s a re-envisioning of the band’s iconic logo. We try, with each record, to make sure that re-envisioning is creative, unique and well-executed. Justin Kamerer is the artist behind the work this time, and I really love how the vision for True Defiance has turned out. His attention to detail and his creative approach to our logo bring a really fresh look to something that’s been used in over 100 different ways over the last decade. To me it feel like this is what the DH logo was always supposed to look like.”

The album is set to be released April 10th via Solid State Records.  This is the band’s sixth studio album.

The band has announced a string of European tour dates with support from Deadlock, Nightrage and Insense. Click here to see the list of tour dates.

Demon Hunter release track list for upcoming album “True Defiance”

Posted by KageDrummer on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 12:50 PM (PST)

Washington metalcore act, Demon Hunter, have released the track list for their upcoming album, “True Defiance.” This will be the band’s sixth studio album as well as their ten year anniversary. The new album will also be produced by Aaron Sprinkle and mixed by Jason Suecoff. Vocalist Ryan Clark has stated:

This record is without a doubt our most aggressive. Every Demon Hunter record must be a step up from the last. I know that’s a goal for every band, but it seldom works that way – especially today, especially in metal. It seems like most bands’ prime years are long behind them. I refuse to let that be the case for us.

“True Defiance” will be released April 10th, 2012 through Solid State Records.
