Aries season is here and it is not only my birth month but a stellar fucking month for fiery metal releases. Shit, the Meshuggah video practically has a Balrog in it. Horns, indeed. Heriot, Meshuggah, Egregore, Caliban and Lords Of The Trident take the cake for us this month here at MR HQ. Support!

Between the Buried and Me (BTBAM) have launched a brand new video, which was filmed at the Baltimore Soundstage, The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC, and The Cannery Ballroom in Nashville, TN. “Lay Your Ghosts to Rest” was produced, filmed, and directed by Raymond McCrea Jones and Wes Richardson. The video is a surreal look at the band’s live show, and the detailed light show and production that accompanies the aural experience that fans have come to know and love.

Between the Buried and Me previously announced that they will be joining Meshuggah for their 25th anniversary tour across North America. Now, in addition to those shows, BTBAM will be performing a select few headlining shows on their way out to kick off the Meshuggah tour in Los Angeles, CA. Beginning on May 29th, fans will see BTBAM make their way to the west coast with Trioscapes serving as direct support! Trioscapes features BTBAM bassist Dan Briggs and released their debut album on Metal Blade Records last year. The band also features Walter Fancourt (saxophone) and Matt Lynch (drums).

Meshuggah announce first-ever shows in Mexico and S. America

Posted by GageT on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 8:16 AM (PST)

meshuggahFor apparently the first time in their career, the legendary Meshuggah have announced a string of dates in Mexico and South America, leaving only Africa and Antarctica untouched by their path of destruction.

These are the dates:

11/08/13 Circo Volador – Mexico City, Mexico
11/12/13 Theater Caupolican – Santiago, Chile
11/16/13 Carioca Club – São Paulo, Brazil

It does seem sorta odd that it’s only three shows, but at least they’re showing the area some love.

IMG_8236This past Sunday started off as a rather busy day at my job with what seemed like an endless ten hour shift and ended on a high note after experiencing several bands I’ve been looking forward to seeing live for a long time.  Meshuggah, Animals As Leaders, and Intronaut are currently on The Ophidian Trek 2013 and they just happened to be in my backyard. Fortunately Meshuggah’s lead singer Jens Kidman had just kicked the flu’s ass and wouldn’t have to be replaced by a cardboard cutout of himself.  Unfortunately however, my ten hour shift forced me to arrive just as Intronaut was finishing, but I’ve been told they were excellent from my friends that arrived on time.

I’m rambling. Here’s our top nominees for March 27th – an epic week of epic releases with epic covers: …it’s a damn long list. Just go and vote already!

MR Staff Picks: Top Albums of March 2012 (MetalRiotJD)

Posted by JDKleinhans on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 10:59 PM (PST)

Well, my fellow heathens an cretins, it’s that time of the month again where I get blood all over myself as I struggle to pick my top albums of the month. Maybe it’s because I’m paying closer attention with each passing year and month of my life, BUT DAMN, another great month that continues a great year of metal! Let me remind you again, I haven’t listened to every single album that has come out this month or any previous month. Who has that kind of time!? I wish I did and I’m determined to make that happen someday.

But alas, I’m rambling once again. Why don’t you all just head on over here to see what I declare to be this month’s top metal albums. Let the harassing criticism begin!

The video was directed by Owe Lingvall of Sweden’s Village Road Film while, according to vocalist Jens Kidman, “We were high on tacos and sodas when we recorded this video.” Perhaps more bands should get high on tacos and soda. New Music: Meshuggah – I Am Colossus

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 9:36 AM (PST)

Swedish extreme metalheads Meshuggah have released the third single from their album Koloss due out…next week!  The song is called “I Am Colossus” and can be found streaming right here.

The first two singles can be found here and here respectively.

Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake had this to say about the song:

“‘I Am Colossus’ is way more straightforward than the thrash metal we grew up with. At the same time, it does pose its own difficulties for us as players. It will probably be one of the first songs we attempt to play on tour. The solo – which is basically two long notes that are slow bends – just turned out beautiful. Such an understatement as a guitar solo. Sometimes a slow song is just as aggressive as a fast one.”

Koloss will be the band’s 7th studio release and will be released March 27, 2012 through Nuclear Blast.

Devin Townsend PictureIn what may have a one-off magical moment, Gojira invited Meshuggah‘s Fredrik Thordendal and Devin Townsend on stage to perform the track “Of Blood and Salt” during the Soundwave Festival last week.

The song is off of the French band’s forthcoming  EP. Other guests on that project include Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), and Max Cavalera (Soulfly). No info on date or title just yet.
