German extreme metallers Downfall Of Gaia have announced their split with guitarist Peter Wolff. We here at Metal Riot believe this to be far and away one of the best extreme bands on the scene right now and hope they soldier through.

The band comments:

“The year is coming to an end and we would like to thank each and everyone for an intense and busy 2015!
Europe, USA, Japan and Australia – it has been a crazy ride! But unfortunately it’s not only 2015 that is coming to an end. Priorities in life do change and from time to time you have to make choices and walk the path that’s best for yourself even if it differs from the direction of others. So today is the day where we have to say goodbye to Peter! We would like to thank him for the last 7 years, the highs and lows, the willing and the unforgettable time we spent with each other! Our last show with Peter on guitar will be in April 2016.More info soon! Downfall of Gaia will continue as always! So right now we are looking for a new guitar player! Someone based in Berlin or Hamburg (best case/no must) with enough time, passion and willing to tour worldwide!
If this sounds like you – get in contact via booking@downfallofgaia.com. Thanks!”

Dominik Goncalves dos Reis (Guitar/Vocals) of Downfall Of Gaia took the time to speak to me about the intense post-BM band’s vast, dark sonic terrain and their upcoming US tour . Hot off the release of monumental moment  Aeon Unveils The Thrones of Decay (Metal Blade) the group are eager to perform their often ten minute long cosmic chasms of sound live. This group, like The Ocean or BTBAM, Mastodon or Black Crown Initiate, are really giving the extra mile when it comes to pushing themselves to explore every frontier of their band’s skills/sound. Aeon… is completely thrilling and often overwhelming but never underwhelming.

DFoG are touring in support of jaw dropping new Metal Blade album Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay, a work that should catapult them to the forefront of metal discussions in an ideal world. This band is doing important stuff. In my mind, DFoG, T.O.A.D. and Black Crown Initiate are really the three bands who most came into their own this year.

DFoG vocalist Dominik Goncalves dos Reis comments: “We are pretty excited to return to the states and present our new record ‘Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay’ for the first time live on stage! Six months of silence has passed and finally we are ready to hit the road again! Can’t wait for this ride!

Downfall Of Gaia reveal art for “Aeon Unveils the Thrones of Decay”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 7:59 PM (PST)

DownfallOfGaia-AeonUnveilsTheThronesOfDecay

Downfall of Gaia have revealed a deeply evocative cover image and track listing for their new record Aeon Uveils The Thrones Of Decay. There is something so arresting about the image and title. It reminds me of when Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen is deciding the value of each human life versus the beauty of time’s march on the surface of planets.

This image makes me think of the vast cosmic forces and glory of nature, which will outlive our petty schemes (unless the God Particle really ruptures the core of the Universe or whatever, as Hawking said). It joins Allegaeon’s latest masterwork or Cynic’s Kindly Bent To Free Us in striking a deeper thematic chord for more pentive yet restless souls.

The album will be released November 11th in North American, and November 7/10 in Europe/UK. Stop what you’re doing and go stream “Carved Into Shadows”.

From the press release:

“Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay” is a story about indiscriminate relentlessness of time. It’s a journey to the dark sides each individual has to fight on a day to day basis. Time in its majesty is an unbeatable enemy and all of humanity has to deal with loss, unexpected changes and with unwanted circumstances. As a slave to time, mankind is marching to the beat of a perpetually ticking clock. Musically, the album gives the listener less time to breath and features a more aggressive songwriting style than fans have heard on Downfall of Gaia’s their previous releases. It is as aggressive and relentless as time itself!

Downfall of Gaia elaborates: “Each and every song deals with another unavoidable situation that the most of us already got to know. All of us are pretty satisfied with the result of the new record and we are excited to share this new piece of music with the audience! The writing process itself became a bit more complex just because of the fact that our new drummer Michael Kadnar is living in New York and all of us are based in Germany. But in the end we were able to manage all of this in a good way, hit the studio and record our most aggressive sounding record till today. Once again we recorded at the ’79 Sound Studio with Christoph Scheidel and we couldn’t ask for a better guy! Mixing job one more time by Jack Shirley from Atomic Garden and master by Brad Boatright from Audiosiege. Anytime again, guys! We can’t wait to play the new material live!”

Downfall of Gaia have just finished the recordings for their new album Aeon Unveils the Thrones of Decay to be released in the fall of 2014!

Downfall of Gaia comments: “All of us are pretty satisfied with the result of the new record and we are excited to share this new piece of music with the audience! The writing process itself became a bit more complex just because of the fact that our new drummer Michael Kadnar is living in New York and all of us are based in Germany.  “The recording itself went pretty smooth just besides the annoying fact that all of us became pretty sick in the last few days of the studio and right before our European tour with Toxic Holocaust and Black Tusk, sitting there with a cold, fever and hardly able to talk, everything went just as planned! Definitely a funny pic to see! But for now we are happy to be done with the studio and can’t wait to play the new material live!”
