A Dying Planet photo by Brian Kirksey

Hey there killers and saints. We made it to Wednesday. Gotta make sure each day these days, ya know? Good news is lots of cool music haps today and #ptsdawarenessday is spreading depression awareness, so that is good stuff. Bad news is fake SCOTUS justice/stolen seat Gorsuch is helping push through more and more fascism and now Union rights are getting screwed badly via #Janus ruling.  Mitch McConnell is the ugliest piece of shit walking besides Trump. Yuck. I guess when we are all exploited even more we can all listen to Municipal Waste in the gutter and drink cheap beer still, but it would be nice as shit to have work protections and a living wage, y’know? On the plus side, Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez won and that is big news.

And now the metal! If you are not scrambling for your life from an onslaught of MAGA troll negativity or Gestapo-like ICE agents, spend some time in the realm of metal when you need some self care and serious riffage. Today I have three cool developments for you to make you feel a little better about our imperiled world.

A Dying Planet (I know the name is not exactly PMA, hahaha) have a debut out in August. The band features members of Zero Hour and Cynthesis and are a progressive group you will want to know about. The outfit has completed its debut album, Facing The Incurable, and has slated it for independent release in August.

The band also features twin brothers getting progressive together, so that is pretty cool. I like the album name as it sort of reminds me of the tipping point for ecological harm. Wake up, people.

Pig Destroyer by Joey Wharton

Pig Destroyer news! How we savor those words! The notorious extreme metal band are celebrating twenty one years wrecking ears this year and are playing Decibel’s Metal & Beer Fest in December (along with Testament doing a New Order and The Gathering set, wtf!!! So cool… plus Triptykon doing a Celtic Frost set, fuuuuck!!) . A new Pig Destroyer album is also coming this year in September from the fine folks at Relapse. Watch this thing below for Head Cage!

And now, for the raddest news of the day of all from mighty Twilight Fauna. I am jamming hard the new “Crooked Road” track right now and dear lord the awesomeness is real. The transition around the one minute mark from fast BM to ambient tranquility was pretty stunning. Please support one of the coolest and most genuine acts around.

Interview: J.R. Hayes of Pig Destroyer

Posted by flixdestroyer on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 6:02 PM (PST)

JoshSisk4What is there to say about grind titans Pig Destroyer that has not already been said at this point? In my estimation, they are one of the most interesting and innovative bands currently residing in extreme metal. With Scott Hull’s schizophrenic, pummeling and tasty licks, Adam Jarvis’ inhuman skills behind the skins, and of course J.R. Hayes’ demented vocals and top notch lyrical ability, these guys remain a force to be reckoned with after more then fifteen years as a band. As far as I’m concerned, whatever these guys are having for breakfast can be considered news.

With the addition of their first bass player, John Jarvis (Cousin of Adam). it seemed like as good a time as ever to see what’s new in the Pig Destroyer camp. Just a little over a year after the release of their latest Relapse album, the crushing Book Burner, the gents from outside our nation’s capital (Scott Hull for President anybody?) show no signs of slowing down with new tricks up their sleeve. Frontman and wordsmith, J.R. Hayes was kind enough to take five and answer some questions regarding the decision to add a bass player, the band’s plans for the upcoming year, and other various business.

Pig Destroyer release unheard EP in memory of Pat Egan

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 3:48 PM (PST)

massvolumeThe unfortunate passing Pat Egan (Director of Retail Sales for Relapse Records) due to complications from pneumonia last month has has really gotten people banding together to help honor his memory and support his family.  Relapse has already put out a 20 song compilation with all proceeds going straight to a college fund for Pat’s daughter and now Pig Destroyer is doing the same with an EP of unreleased material.  This is a 25 minute, 2 song EP of straight up doom that is available as a digital download only for 10 bucks.

You can find it by clicking right here.

Pig Destroyer has released the following statement on the release:

“This ep was written and recorded during the final day of the Phantom Limb sessions with unexpected extra studio time and resources. In the following years, with Natasha being released on its own and Brian no longer being in the band, our intentions of releasing Mass & Volume basically evaporated. However, looking back now, Mass & Volume serves as a great epilogue to that particular era of the band.

Pat Egan was a friend and a keystone member of the Relapse family for many of the years we have been involved with it. He devoted his life to supporting underground music and he immeasurably helped develop the bands he worked with. His untimely passing on February 18 2013 shocked the many people that his life and work had touched.

This EP is dedicated to the memory Of Pat Egan and to the loving family he left behind.  RIP Pat.”

A memorial event for Pat has also been scheduled for Tuesday March 5th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM EST at Idle Hands Bar in New York, NY. Everyone is invited to attend with all proceeds again going directly to his daughter Katie’s college fund. More information on the event can be found right here.

Pig Destroyer re-signs with Relapse Records

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 9:00 AM (PST)

Richmond, VA grindcore act Pig Destroyer have announced that they have resigned with longtime label Relapse Records. The band released their fifth studio album Book Burner back in October via Relapse and have issued the following statements regarding resigning with the label.

Drummer Adam Jarvis stated: “Super excited to be a part of the extraordinary Relapse Records again! A song comes to mind in the melody of the “Team America” jingle. “Relapse, Fuck yeah! Once again, signing a muthafuckin contract!”

Guitarist Scott Hull stated: “Relapse has been a great home for both ANB and Pig Destroyer since the very early days. We’re not an easy band to deal with but Relapse has been patient, enthusiastic, and accommodating to our headache-inducing schedules, our strict adherence to not touring or behaving like a normal band, and just generally being pains-in-the-asses. We wouldn’t trade that for anything.”

Vocalist J.R. Hayes stated: “I don’t always sign contracts with record labels, but when I do, I choose Relapse.”
