While we all mourn the end of DEP, the band have some stuff still up their sleeves. Behold the new video for “Limerent Death”, one of the key tracks from grand finale Dissociation ( Note: so far it is a finale, I mean. Ministry made like 3 farewell records after all and now are just basically back so who knows…anything is possible in an age where At The Gates, Quicksand and At The Drive In all have new reunion material). But yeah, whether the band return someday remains to be seen. Meanwhile celebrate their succinct brand of brash bombast HERE.

Vocalist Greg Puciato comments: “So … we could’ve gone the normal route and put a video out before our record came out, but the truth is we were so wiped out from the writing and the recording and the weight of the breakup that we just couldn’t give a shit at the time. Besides, we knew that nothing more conceptual than live footage ever felt right for this song anyway, and at the time, after being off tour for a while … well … there just wasn’t any. So here’s a little something, directed by Oleg Rooz, who lived with us for our last European tour and shot endlessly. It’s only a year after our album came out and about a dozen shows away from the band finale, but hey … fashionably late.”

Unlike Eminem, the Relapse era is well regarded as the best Dillinger Escape Plan stuff, though I love all their records. Still, the early days were unfuckwithable. Then Miss Machine came along and shit got bananas w/ Puciato on board. And Ire Works is underrated and possibly my FAVORITE if I wasn’t so biased by my Calculating Infinity love like most O.G. DEP fans.

I smell that whore/woah/etc. right HERE.

The Dillinger Escape Plan release “Paranoia Shields” clip

Dillinger-Escape-Plan-One-Of-Us-Is-The-Killer

I liked Option Paralysis a bit better than One Of Us Is The Killer, though the recent album from The Dillinger Escape Plan was also rad and every video has been downright, uh, killer?! The band are one of my all time faves but I haven’t felt startled by their material since the really innovative (and underrated)  Ire Works. BUT, the new stuff since that record has still been great if kind of establishing a kind of new standard DEP sound, more or less. Their videos, however, continue to startle.

Mitch Massie worked on this new video with the esteemed band of spastic yet poppy Faith No More disciples. Ruling the math core scene still to this day, you’ve got to respect Dillinger and this video is another fine entry in a storied legacy.

Watch it BELOW.

So,wake and bake…as usual, listening to “Fantasia” from Stratovarius’ mostly great power metal classic Elements Pt. 1 but wondering how the fuck the drum mix on this album got cleared at several db’s too loud. Still, this shit is so classic. “Stratofortress” is eating my mind (it sounds like “We Need A Little Xmas” was played at a Rush concert by the Great Kat)!!! Then I get an email. Sip coffee. Spit coffee! What?!!

I guess in between touring with Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails and slaying it live (saw them in NJ), Ben from The Dillinger Escape Plan has launched an amazing new media website.  Partysmasherinc.com is live now and billed as, a collective of creative professionals and artistic provocateurs.

PartySmasherInc.com is a one-stop portal for musicians, photographers, illustrators, fashion designers and industry mavericks of all stripes. I am loving the content, from debates on Gaga to interviews with Pentagram and Mike Patton to my favorite piece so far, a piece called DIY stands for “decide it yourself”. (and i don’t mean my poor stoner grammar).

The shared principle that unites this otherwise diverse collection of contributors and curators is simple: self-determination. Party Smasher Inc. exists to enable like minded cultural saboteurs to empower themselves with the DIY spirit.

“I was well into my twenties, with a college degree and a corporate job, playing music with no intention of generating money or some massive fanbase,” explains Party Smasher Inc. founder BEN WEINMAN, best known as the unrelenting guitarist of The Dillinger Escape Plan. “Before I had even realized it, I was making 100% of my living creating art. How did this happen? Because we ignored the ‘rules.’ It wasn’t until I started living my artistic life with that mindset that I became a responsible creator – one who could move people through honest expression. And that is what Party Smasher Inc. is all about. We are here to celebrate the artists that are following their own path, undeterred by the trends.”

DEPtourdatesThis was an interesting line up. New York City’s Webster Hall hosted “blackjazz” Norwegians Shining, Retox and Trash Talk both representing visceral Cali punk and hardcore, and The Dillinger Escape Plan to finish the night’s uncompromising variety. I also found all the singers to be exuding some serious libido. Each vocalist crooned to swoon like it was his last night to bang.  Not many shows have had such pretty dudes fronting the bands on stage either. Great night to be a girl in the crowd. I hope someone got some D, it was definitely out there.

With Dillinger headlining, you could easily guess the stage was set to absolutely demolish the fourth wall, as many of the bands took advantage of the speakers stacked for stage dives into the crowd and extra long cables for the singers to wander into the pit for a stroll.

Summer_SlaughterA black stampede raged through Times Square, as hundreds of metalheads poured into the Best Buy Theater for New York City’s stop on The Summer Slaughter Tour. Eleven bands performed nine hours of chest-rattling metal for the most extreme night of the year. I was front and center for the brunt of it and let me tell you cretins: this show was every bit as intense as it was billed. Armed with my camera, press pass, iPhone, cigarettes, and scores of power backups, I was ready for journalistic war. And I fucking conquered.   Click here for the full spread of pictures and commentary.

Lyric Video: The Dillinger Escape Plan – “Prancer”

Posted by SeanB on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 2:30 AM (PST)

dillingeroneofusNew Jersey “mathcore” pioneers The Dillinger Escape Plan have just dropped the lyric video for their new single “Prancer.”  The song comes from the upcoming One Of Us Is The Killer album.  Said album is due to be released May 14th via the band’s own Partysmasher Inc. imprint.

To check out the lyric video for “Prancer” click right here.  Dillinger also released a video for the song “When I Lost My Bet” last week that you can find right here.

The Dillinger Escape Plan chose to have longtime producer Steve Evetts record the One Of Us Is The Killer, with additional production at guitarist/co-founder Ben Weinman’s studio. Mastering was done by Tom Baker. When asked about the album, vocalist Greg Puciato had the following to say about the recording process:

“Dillinger is a different beast in tracking than most normal bands. Even Steve has told me that there’s no other band that he has recorded that requires this amount of attention to detail. We take a longer amount of time to do one thing than most bands take to do ten. At this point, talking to Ben about it, we only do this once every three years on average so ten years from now I don’t want to look back and think, ‘Fuck man, we should have finished that one three weeks earlier!’ Who cares? You want it to be right and you want it to be the thing that was the closest to what your vision actually was.”

Puciato also stated on the direction:

“I can hear [the influence of old punk and hardcore records] a lot. I can definitely hear that in some of the riffs, which are really aggressive. It’s not a blatant hardcore record or anything like that. I actually think this is the most all over the place and weirdest record we’ve ever written. It’s the first one since I joined the band where Ben has sent me songs and I’ve been like, ‘What the fuck is happening? This sounds like a beehive!’”

Summer Slaughter Tour Line Up Announced

Posted by NichTheHair on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 12:15 PM (PST)

599614_502962246408433_494654365_nThe line up for the annual Summer Slaughter Tour was announced today and it is fierce. The Dillinger Escape Plan headlines the show, with direct support from Animals As Leaders, Periphery, and Norma Jean. There’s also four more bands, making this tour even more insanely aggressive. Cattle Decapitation, The Ocean, Revocation, and Aeon will round out the roster.

There’s still another being added, by way of a fan voting process. So we now have a nine band touring tornado on the precipice of destroying every city it touches down in. Sumer Slaughter indeed. No dates have been announced yet and we will surely have more on that later.

Go vote for the opening band here, maybe vote for Abiotic. or Vektor. Tough call.
