Miss May I release new video for “Shadows Inside”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 5:28 PM (PST)

Miss May I have always seemed confident in who they want to be as a band. The group work hard to connect with fans, stay their course and release album after album with a dedication not so common these days when fair weather scene tourists run amok. Currently on the road winding up a run with Obey The Brave and Auras, Miss May I are continuing to prove that supporting them is to support a band who are invested in making a long term impact in the metalcore and hard rock scenes.

Now you can check out the new title track from the band’s perhaps most mature effort yet Shadows Inside. The album is perhaps the most assured the band have ever sounded. The fast parts are faster, the guitar playing is near impeccable and the arrangements maximize energy as well as set up the hooks for numerous pay offs throughout the release.

Speaking about the title track for Shadows Inside, MISS MAY I lead vocalist Levi Benton states, “Not only does this song open up our new record, it also sets the tone for the record. This album is all about changes throughout life, good and bad. It’s about the past that lives within everyone; their ‘Shadows Inside’. The lyrics talk about how great new things can give light to your past and put you in a better place.

Sharing some details about the creation of the music video for “Shadows Inside”, Levi adds:

We have quite a few videos and we’re always trying to change things up. With this video for ‘Shadows Inside’ we not only wanted to recreate the cover of the record in real life, but we also wanted the performance to be abstract. We had black lights and used old lens effects from the 90’s to achieve a very classic look and something totally different for us.

Album Review: Miss May I – Rise Of The Lion

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 8:43 PM (PST)

Album Art

Rise of The Lion is the latest from Miss May I, a very well loved and established band in their genre. I heard them a few times but in all fairness, despite me knowing more bands than most people can imagine exist, I never really familiarized myself with Miss May I deeply. The name just seemed to emo for what I was into at the time, though now it has really grown on me. It’s cool to see them embrace the Lion imagery stronger than ever and you can tell a lot of effort went into this disc.

Opener “Refuse To Believe” is an anthem that is all about claiming identity and inner strength. “You are not a ghost” is the refrain. The band the record most recalls to mind was, unexpectedly, Threat Signal. The screams really called to mind Jon Howard, one of my favotite and most underrated frontmen. Miss May I aren’t copying anybody and there aren’t a lot of risks or much sense of danger here, but the band are formidable and very capable at what they do. I can understand why people love them. I will rock the latest Polar release for a bit more urgency, but this record still has plenty of very solid moments (the intro of ‘Darker Days” is a serious pit starter).
