Wovenwar debut commanding “All Rise” music video

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 8:07 AM (PST)

Wovenwar‘s take charge (and soon to be signature live track  once fans really fall in love with it) “All Rise” is now paired with a music video as well!

This song is gorgeous, stirring and huge. I have been singing it for weeks. Shane is the man! Very inspiring and full of impressive guitar highlights and Jordan’s stampeding drums as well.

AllMusic is streaming the brand new music video for “All Rise” (directed by Scott Hansen – now here:

Tim Lambesis sentenced to six years in jail

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 2:11 PM (PST)

“I’m a cop, you idiot”  – Red

According to Lambgoat, Tim Lambesis has been sentenced to six years in jail. His wife’s testimony is tragic, though the Total Recall part is fucking hysterical if you have a morbid sense of humor.

In a report from, here is what took place when Meggan Lambesis spoke:

When Meggan finally spoke, Lambesis turned in his seat to listen but didn’t look into her face. The wife and mother of three adopted children, Meggan said Lambesis’ behavior changed in the prior months. He had bullied her. He had become “dangerous.” Reading a prepared statement, she claimed her life “felt as fragile as a piece of paper that could float away at any moment.”Meggan explained to the court that Lambesis texted her the day before his arrest asking for his children’s social security numbers: “He was tying up loose ends,” she said. She now believes he was fantasizing about killing her in advance, quoting a favorite line from the Arnold Schwarzenegger’s film Total Recall where he shoots his wife and says, “Consider that a divorce.” Meggan closed by requesting the maximum sentence and a lifetime restraining order.

While I am not condoning his actions, I do believe steroids and hormone imbalance can really fuck you up. Tim has done a lot of good things for the scene and the whole shit is really sad. I feel bad for his kids, his estranged wife and yes, also for Tim. I know there are a lot of clowns out there and shit, I made jokes here myself, but this also sucks for anyone who took inspiration from Tim’s lyrics over the years. I know it is cute to be snarky and dismissive on message boards, but As I Lay Dying were great before this all went down. Tim broke his interview silence with Alternative Press HERE as well and it is a must read. Read the full main Lambgoat piece on the sentencing HERE.

Wovenwar’s “One Year” video is oddly moving

Wovenwar is obviously Shane from Oh, Sleeper with As I Lay Dying minus Tim (for complicated reasons you may have heard about). Anyway, you ought to check out the new video for “One Year” from the new band, a beautiful and melodic song that makes you feel how much these guys care about what they do  and how this whole thing must have really sucked for them. As an AILD fan who was upset by events with Lambesis, I really wish the rest of the guys the best of luck while the dust settles. I interviewed Jordan Mancino years back for Crusher Magazine and he was great to talk to.

Oh, Sleeper not losing Shane Blay

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 4:24 PM (PST)

Oh, Sleeper vocalist/guitarist Shane Blay was announced as the new singer of the Wovenwar project, also featuring members of As I Lay Dying not guilty of tragically poor murderous lapses of character or still awesome Ahhhnold parody metal. Wovenwar is going to be pretty cool but fans of Oh, Sleeper worried it spelled the end for the popular band.

“To put to rest the rumors that I’m leaving Oh Sleeper I tell you this: Micah and I started this band 8 years ago and have stayed with it through the thick and thin. That is still the case. Its tattoo’d on my chest for crying out loud. As long as Oh Sleeper is a band, I’ll be in it.” – Shane Blay

As I Lay Dying frontman’s bail review set for today

Posted by GageT on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 7:37 AM (PST)

As I Lay Dying Band PhotoUnless you’ve been living under a metal rock for the past week, by now you’ve probably heard about As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis’ alleged plot to have his wife murdered. According to the San Diego Reader, his bail review is scheduled for today in San Diego in front of the Honorable Judge David Berry.

Defense attorney Anthony Salerno had this to say:

“Tim never had the intention to harm his wife, absolutely not. This whole thing was a set-up by a scumbag snitch, and then law enforcement ran with it.” He has also characterized the case as “entrapment.”

As we post this, the legal process is taking it’s course and we have no more information than you do. There are many unanswered questions, and the situation will become clearer in the coming days and weeks. We’ll keep you informed as best we can.

Our thoughts right now are with Tim, his family, and with everyone else affected by this terrible situation – and with our fans, whom we love and draw strength from.

As I Lay In Jail

As I Lay Dying Band PhotoSan Diego metalcore band As I Lay Dying’s lead singer is in a bit of trouble. Apparently, Tim Lambesis has been arrested for hiring someone to kill his wife. From what we understand Lambesis asked an undercover cop to murder her and was arrested. So yeah, I guess they actually weren’t a Christian band.

Best U.S. Fest of 2012? Probably Mayhem.

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 9:09 PM (PST)

When it comes to full-fledged package tours in 2012, Mayhem pretty much blew everyone away this year. As far as mainstream metal goes, how can you compete with Motorhead, Slipknot, Anthrax, Slayer and As I Lay Dying on one tour? You might as well just give up. If only High On Fire hadn’t dropped off the tour…well, it’s just as well. That would have been almost too much to fucking handle.

Mayhem was a great current glance at much of the metal landscape.

I wanted to reflect on my own experience at the festival plus share some insight from bands like (the awesome and underrated) Stemm and The Devil Wears Prada on why it was so great this year. Sure, everyone was bugging about Slipknot and they did put on an amazing show at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (especially “Surfacing”). Really, it was about everyone more than one band. While the horribly awful energy drinks and lack of decent booze (which we managed to get around, hee hee) were a downer, it was nonetheless a great, refreshing time that revived conviction that Metal is here to stay/slay.

Album Review: As I Lay Dying- “Awakened”

Posted by NichTheHair on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 1:00 PM (PST)

Awakened marks the fifth full-length studio for As I Lay Dying in their decade-plus career. It follows The Powerless Rise‘s strong, driving beats and expands on the flowing and fluid leads. The thrash roots of old have not been abandoned and there are some heavy blasters in here for your morning cups of metal.

Music Video: As I Lay Dying – “A Greater Foundation”

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 3:35 PM (PST)

California metalcore band As I Lay Dying have released a music video for the song “A Greater Foundation.” This is the first video from their upcoming release Awakened which is due to come out September 25, 2012 under Metal Blade.

If you would like to check the video out you can click right here.

The video for “A Greater Foundation” was directed by Drew Russ and bass player Josh Gilbert recently had the following to say about working with him:

“We were all impressed with Drew’s ability to capture the intensity of live band performances in his videos, and ‘A Greater Foundation’ is no exception. Drew’s technique, along with the all-day participation of some of our diehard fans in Los Angeles, definitely accentuated the energy of the song and makes for an exciting and dynamic video. We can’t wait to unveil it!”
