Listening to “DEMON(S)” right now from DARKEST HOURas I write this and thinking fondly of how this band has kept going and always deliver bangers passionately and reliably. Truly one of the modern underground acts that deserves more credit for carrying the torch for a long time.
Celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, metalcore pioneers DARKEST HOUR have just announced a special livestream event to benefit their favorite local venue during these unprecedented times.
To aid their good friends at the Black Cat in the band’s hometown of Washington DC, DARKEST HOUR is proud to announce a worldwide live streaming event to be held on September 26th, 2020 via VEEPS.com. All the profits of this event will go to the Black Cat Employee fund.
The band writes, “We have been spending a lot of time thinking of our family, friends, and colleagues who are all struggling to find a way through these trying times. The Black Cat has been a constant refuge for us over the years and so it feels right to our best to give back now. We need art, we need music, and we will need a place to all come together eventually to heal form all of this. We want those of our friends who work in the music/art/live events industry to know that we see you, we are here for you, and most of all that you are not alone.
We will be rolling out a special digital merchandise store, and some other surprises so follow along on our social media as we reveal more details. Happy to do our part to support the fund and give back to a community and club that has given so much to us.
Thanks so much in advance for helping get the word out. Just trying to get creative, stay active, give back, all while we try and write the best album of our lives!”
Purchase your presale ticket HERE, or feel free to donate anytime HERE.
Stay tuned for further updates on DARKEST HOUR as they continue to write their new album for release through Southern Lord in 2021.
Produced by Kurt Ballou (Converge), DARKEST HOUR‘s eleventh LP Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora continues to solidify the band’s legacy as a major metal powerhouse. Raw, complex, melodic, yet cutting with razor blade precision, Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora is a fierce album which shows the long-running band as lethal and ravenous as ever.
Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora is available on CD, LP, picture disc LP, digital via Southern Lord, including a brand-new pressing on purple vinyl limited to 300 copies. Find options at the label’s webstore HERE, Bandcamp HERE, and through all digital providers.
In other news, DARKEST HOUR recently launched an official fan club via Patreon as part of their 25th anniversary. Here, fans can choose their desired tier to access lots of band content; some of it never before accessible, some of it so old it has been lost to the black hole of the Internet, and some of it totally brand new and exclusive. Check it out RIGHT HERE.
DARKEST HOUR are one of the true believer standouts of metalcore who have weathered many storms, never got super huge but always put up a good fight, delivering album after great fucking album about society hanging on by tattered threads. A nine city co-headling West Coast tour with Unearth is coming up along with the European celebration of band’s 25th anniversary celebration (including dates with fucking Bloodlet, aghh!) – so much riffjoicing is in order. Sick poster by my friend Chris for the West Coast tour, I might add.
Offers DARKEST HOUR, “2019, we are not done with you yet. Just added some shows on the West Coast with our dudes in Unearth! We have seen all the amazing feedback from you all, and we have listened. Both bands will be playing FULL headlining, rip’n, face melting sets. We have had a ton of fun all over the world with Unearth and we are stoked to slide these dates in before the end of the year. We have some huge things in store for 2020 but if you live in these cities come out and party like its 1999 with us and Unearth!”
A month later, DARKEST HOUR will kick off 2020 with a return to Europe for a sixteen-city special 25th anniversary tour, where they’ll be joined by special guests Fallujah, Bloodlet, Une Misere, and Lowest Creature.
The band comments, “It is with extreme excitement that we announce what we hope to be one of many tour’s next year celebrating our 25th anniversary! Over these past twenty-five years we have toured with both new and established bands and have always worked hard to make our tour packages diverse and interesting. This tour is in keeping with that tradition. Fallujah is ripping progressive death metal who have had our attention for a while, can’t wait to see these riffs live. Bloodlet is a very special band to us. One of our early influences, it is EASY to say we would not be a band (or at least not the same band) without their influence. We grew up going to their shows and it’s a joy to be able to share the stage with them. We got to see Une Misere play this summer and were impressed, insanely heavy, Icelandic mosh of the highest form. Lowest Creature is a killer blend of classic metal elements we all love translated with a new and distinctly Swedish twist. Oh, and you know we will have a few surprises planned for this set special 25th anniversary set. See you in the pit!”
Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora is available on CD, black vinyl LP, picture disc LP, and all digital platforms via Southern Lord; find ordering options at the label’s webstore HERE, via Bandcamp HERE, and through all digital providers.

D.C. metallers Darkest Hour have announced the Canadian winter leg of their tour with Unearth and The Agony Scene.
The tour, dubbed the “Death to False Metalcore Tour” will start at the end of January and run through April first. The leg with Unearth and The Agony Scene runs seven shows from January 31 to February 8.
Darkest Hour are touring in support of their album Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora, released in 2017.
Never ones to dissapoint, the lads in Darkest Hour have continued to deliver socially relevant and sonically consistent, monster album after monster album since day one. It is music that gives you hope and relief that someone is paying attention out there to what matters.
This August 5th the band will release their first Sumerian release, a sign that the label’s scooping up of an established and respected band like Dillinger was no fluke. I am very excited to hear the whole album based on the new teaser video, which you can hear below.

So it’s no secret that a couple of us here at Metal Riot were able to visit the biggest and best metal festival in the world recently. Yes, I’m talking about Wacken Open Air silly. Well, while we were there we got to spend a little time with John Henry (not the steel driving man) the lead singer of the one and only Darkest Hour. We brought him a little whiskey and he was kind enough to sit down for a super candid interview. So if you ever wanted to talk shit (literally) with the man himself here is your chance to see what it would be like. So please click right here to read on, and enjoy yourself.

Taken from their latest release, Washington D.C. melodic death metallers Darkest Hour let it all out in this destructive video. “Love As A Weapon” was shot outside D.C. and also blends eerie footage of violent natural disasters, wild predators feeding, and worst of all, the savagery of humanity. The imagery reflects the lyric “A battleground that you adore/A heavy heart in a savage world.”

Well cretins, 28 lucky cities will be visited in the night by the third installment of a darkly phantasmagoric tour known as the Atticus Metal Tour. The haunting begins February 25th and bumps through the nights until closing March 27th. Darkest Hour, Born of Osiris, As Blood Runs Black, and The Human Abstract are the constant performers, but special guests vary from date to date. Glory be to the ones who attend for alas, my city is not on the tour. Roadtrip!
