“It’s obviously been a long time coming for us all, and we couldn’t be more stoked to play the songs from “Violent Portraits of Doomed Escape” live. To be able to do that with our brothers in Inferi and Arkaik is the icing on the cake. See you all on the Doomed Escape Tour,” states BLACK CROWN INITIATE guitarist Andy Thomas.
BLACK CROWN INITIATE will be touring in support of their 2020 release, Violent Portraits of Doomed Escape (Century Media Records), which was recorded at Think Loud Studios by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland (Rivers Of Nihil, August Burns Red, Lorna Shore). Having released two critically hailed, fan-worshipped works of progressive death metal, 2014’s Wreckage of Stars and its 2016 follow-up Selves We Cannot Forgive, BLACK CROWN INITIATE have found a new label home with Century Media. Formed in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2012, BLACK CROWN INITIATE have created a stir that’s stretched far beyond the underground with a sound that is at once sweeping, chaotic and epic in scope and ambition. The release of Violent Portraits of Doomed Escape, which was featured on numerous “Best Albums Of 2020” lists, was no exception to the band’s impressive pedigree.
Pennsylvania metallers Black Crown Initiate have released their latest single “Invitation.”
“Invitation” comes off the band’s upcoming album Portraits of the Doomed Escape due out August 7 via Century Media Records. The album was recorded at Think Loud Studios by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, who have also recorded bands like Rivers Of Nihil, August Burns Red, Lorna Shore, and many more.
“We tore our hearts apart making this record, and we can’t wait for you all to hear it. It’s the best thing any of us has ever made. More to come,” states the band.

Black Crown Initiate get more traction than most other bands on this site. Check out their new video for “The Fractured One” off triumphant full length debut The Wreckage Of Stars and you will hear and see why. The clip can be witnessed HERE and discusses “stolen light from our eyes.”
I won’t rest until this band is huge, if I can help in any way by blogging about them way too much, haha. The world is wasting time arguing about scientist Matt Taylor’s stupid cartoon bikini babe shirt while people are dying and our culture is more and more controlled by darkly motivated forces with no soul. Good metal will heal you and make you strong like a shield of good energy or Ayahuasca. Thanks. Rant over.Add to My Radar

Black Crown Initiate seem to be the band everyone is talking about lately and deservedly so. I actually went to the local FYE and bought The Wreckage Of Stars today to support their first week sales because I really believe in what this band is doing. Gruff vocals that still have substance over style, murderous drum precision and guitars that paint the sky red. Check out the hype HERE.Add to My Radar

With the band playing their first show less than a year ago, things are moving fast for Black Crown Initiate. “We started this band with absolutely no clue how far it would take us,” says guitarist Andy Thomas. “It has been an amazing time, as of today, we can honestly say that we are starting a new chapter in our careers; one that will afford us opportunities that we never imagined. We are absolutely honored to be part of the eOne family.”
Black Crown Initiate, or commonly referred as BCI, is firmly planted at Atrium Audio, (August Burns Red, Rivers of Nihil) working with producer Carson Slovak on their debut LP. The effort will be the follow up to the critically acclaimed Song of the Crippled Bull EP they released last year.Add to My Radar
Black Crown Initiate have signed to eOne Music, great news for Metal Rioters who, like me, feel stoked whenever they hear news on this up and coming powerhouse band. plans to release an all new LP later this year. The band got their first big break as the openers for Behemoth.
“eOne is the ideal home for Black Crown Initiate,” says vocalist James Dorton. “This was not without careful consideration; and with them behind us we’ll be able to bring our music to you in the best way.”

The band managed to get the attention and more than a few nods in the press, most notably landing on the “Albums That Will #$@&%*! Your Face Off in 2014” list released by Metal Sucks throughout the year. They touted the EP as a “rare beast that’ll both catch your ear on first listen and keep getting better and better each time.”Add to My Radar
Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus has always been a bar of great metal genre diversity. I’ve seen thrash shows, prog shows, and straight up death metal shows there, sometimes all in the same night. It is also a very fertile ground for New York City’s fledgling bands as well, many citing Vitus as a “dream venue” or one they “always wanted to play.” So Hideous is one of those NYC bands out there working hard to create a memorable experience with each performance. The other two bands both hail from Reading, Pennsylvania: Black Crown Initiate, who take a progressive approach to death metal, and headlineres Rivers of Nihil. Guitarist John Kunz told me in an interview once “I’m going to write a song that sounds like fucking Morbid Angel.” That pretty much sums up their sound.

Escuela Grind is one of the most intense AND fun bands out right now in the extreme metal scene. Anyone who has seen the outfit live knows they put on a careening and death-defying show, blending elements of many of the heaviest sub genres into a world changing charge. It has been awesome discovering truly fired up and creative acts such as them, Habak or Hostilities this year, giving me hope for the next generation of ass kickers. When I heard Indoctrination I was hooked and feel blessed Escuela Grind were one of the first bands I caught live when shows revved up again. Long may they reign.
