“The World Is Yours” encourage ARCH ENEMY on new rager

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 1:25 PM (PST)

ARCH ENEMY have risen once again and are ready to accelerate at full force as they unleash the masterful new single, “The World Is Yours”, taken from their forthcoming album, Will To Power, due out on September 8 via CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS worldwide.

Mastermind Michael Amott comments, “We’ve been hard at work on the new album for a while now and we’re proud to present the first taste of new Arch Enemy music in over three years with our new single and video, ‘The World Is Yours’! This was the first song I wrote for the upcoming ‘Will To Power’ album and Daniel (Erlandsson, drums) helped me arrange and finish it up. One of many songs we co-wrote and co-produced this time around. We had a blast recording together with the full band in the south of Sweden and then mixing with Jens Bogren, who did a superb mix and mastering – in my opinion even surpassing the epic sound on our previous record, ‘War Eternal’. People that have heard this song in particular are saying it’s got the classic anthemic Arch Enemy vibe going on, and I think they might be right about that… Looking forward to playing it live on stage later this summer!”

The massive debut track, which can be heard and seen in their rousing music video HERE , will be offered as an instant download with all digital pre-orders and is also available on all streaming platforms.

Head to http://willtopower.centurymedia.com to find all digital and physical pre-order options.

Under Black Flags We March: 2015 recap in 12 Metal Instagram posts.

While twelve photos cannot capture the full year in metal, I looked around on Instagram for some shots or moments that seemed to me to fit the overall spirit of the year.

I tried to keep it more celebratory , so there aren’t any Paris attack photos in here, though it was an important event for all music. I also chose to show different genres of metal, to remind us we are stronger with one another.

See the choices (including some gig fliers) BELOW.

What were your biggest moments?

12 great post-1990 live albums that aren’t “Alive In Athens”.

Quality live albums have somewhat, frankly, become a rare breed. Sure you have Iced Earth’s Alive In Athens which was made in 1999 (not THAT long ago) but these days it’s far more common to have a golden live moment caught on Youtube, be it a funny blooper, a raging Black Label Society set or Florence & The Machine filling in for Foo Fighters (no pressure) yet still easing into Glastonbury this year like she (Welch) was reclaiming a mystical throne whilst blowing away the uneven Kanye set. Dax Riggs bootlegs are always reliable for bluesy psych/glam rock from the ex-Acid Bath singer. Tearist released a live debut for a full length and it really shook up the noise/art rock scene and created amazing possibilities anew. There’s standbys like Nirvana or Alice In Chains Unplugged. The new Rotting Christ 2x live bad boy is streaming HERE.

Maybe I’m showing my age here but I’d argue though that I have yet to be knocked on my ass by a live release
from many newer bands (here’s a DVD exception). Most of the ones on this list of mine are still more
established than not. Maybe I’m wrong but it seems to be a hurting art form. Cuz bands fuckin’ fake shit in the studio, hahaha.

Here are twelve true bangers, IMO. Some of these even have accompanying footage! Cuz, y’know…we can do that stuff now!

See which twelve artists made the list BELOW.

Album Review: Arch Enemy – War Eternal

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 9:42 PM (PST)

cover

It sent shock waves through the metal community when the startling news came down the vine that Angela Gossow was leaving the vocal throne of Arch Enamy to become the band’s manager, passing the microphone/baton to ex-The Agonist rising star Alissa White-Gluz. Look, skeptics have to remember that Michael Amott knows what he is doing. The guy could have stayed with Carcass I presume, but he chose instead to keep Arch Enemy as his main baby now (which is fine cuz I love Arch Enemy and Ben Ash was in Pig Iron, a sick bluesy stoner rock band with harmonica who played with Maiden once and are under appreciated in the USA…so, long story short, Ash gets my nod as a cool replacement in Carcass for Amott. But let’s get back to Arch Enemy proper.

“Tempore Nihil Sanat” opens the record with a flourish of ominous classical anticipation building. We hear some chanting that could be from The Omen or a Ghost B.C. record before…pay off! “Never Forgive, Never Forget” bangs in with such classic Arch Enemy style that you have to remind yourself there have been line up changes. “Never! Ever!” Even the album art is kind of cool, kind of ugly-like most of their CDs.

New guitarist Nick Cordle (ex-Arsis) does a great job, and though Chris’ leads are missed, the new stuff really is just as good. I mean, it is Arch Enemy. You know what you want and they deliver, with some surprises thrown in here and there. I’ll tell you this…I am more into this than the latest re-incarnation of The Haunted. Though maybe I am biased on both counts since I like Dolving-era Haunted the best and also since I heard Alissa is roomies with the drummer of Blackguard, Justine. Love me some Blackguard!

Anyway, “You Will Know My Name” starts off with almost power metal riffing, and the song could in fact be a mission statement for White-Gluz. She commands the number well, making it her own but showing she has the skill to also competently execute things in a style that makes this album sit well with Angela’s tenure.

Arch Enemy show off new vocalist Alissa White-Gluz (ex-The Agonist)

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 11:02 AM (PST)

Alissa-White-Gluz-The-Agonist

So Arch Enemy shocked everyone earlier in the week and announced Angela Gossow will become the band’s manager and pass her vocal torch on to ex-The Agonist vocalist Alissa White-Gluz.

Angela Gossow, who joined ARCH ENEMY in 2000 and made her debut on the now classic Wages Of Sin (2001), will be stepping down as front-woman and focusing on the band’s management. Now it’s time to lift the veil and present the new line-up with the title track of the upcoming album “War Eternal”. The video was produced by the band’s long time friend Patric Ullaeus.

Alissa kicks butt and, while she doesn’t have the fear inducing and able to dominate your puny manhood in five seconds glare of the formidable Gossow, Alissa still manages to sound really fierce on this new track. Today is a great day. Fred Phelps is dead and choking on Satan’s ding dong. I just heard the new Hellyeah album and it blows away all their old stuff. Agalloch have a new song. And now this! Horns skyward!

Chief song-writer, guitarist and band leader Michael Amott comments: “This is a day to remember. It is such a great feeling to come back with new music and to unleash the first single and video off ‘War Eternal’. Behold the first chapter of the new Arch Enemy saga… This is f**king war!”

Wacken Open Air 2006Surprising news today, as Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy reveals she has left the band and is turning vocal duties over to Alissa White-Gluz. Angela will now take over managerial duties of the band.

Founder and gutarist Michael Amott spoke about the change: “We are eternally grateful to Angela for all her passion, hard work and talent. Her legacy is tremendous and will always be a big part of the band’s history. We feel great pride in what has been achieved in the past, but also look forward to new battles and new victories. We welcome Alissa with open arms – and we hope you will have open ears. We might have just created our most wicked metal opus yet with our upcoming album War Eternal!”

Wa-wah. I think quitting a band right before a tour is a pretty dick move, leave it to the passive Swedes to go amicably about things though. MeloDeath metal veterans Arch Enemy formally released a statement regarding the departure of their founding guitarist Christopher Amott:

“We thank Christopher for the time he’s worked with the band and of course wish him the very best in his future endeavors. Thankfully, there is no drama behind the scenes here. This is the best way forward for all involved. Christopher simply does not feel at home with playing extreme metal anymore. We have already chosen and rehearsed with a new guitar player and we will complete the ‘Khaos Legions’ 2012 touring cycle as planned. We are highly motivated and look forward to continue spreading our music around the world!

Finally, our deepest thanks go to the Arch Enemy fans, whose amazing support and belief inspires us ever onward.”

Swedish melodic death metallers, Arch Enemy, have joined forces with the worldwide human rights organization, Amnesty International, to help raise awareness of social injustices around the world. Click here for upcoming tour dates.

Arch Enemy vocalist, Angela Gossow, stated:

“We have invited Amnesty International to join us on the “North American Khaos” tour to help raise awareness for defending human rights, freedom of speech and saving lives. We are living in very extreme and turbulent times and it is important to take a stand. We hope one day everybody is allowed to freely say what they think, that no government has the right to punish and kill those who do not conform and that those who are oppressing the masses will be brought to justice. It will be a long and hard struggle, but it’s a goal worth fighting for. The metal scene is non-conformist, alternative and revolutionary – We know how to practice what others preach. So let’s go out there and support the cause! Go to http://www.amnesty.org (here) for more info or check out their booth at some of our shows!”

The supporting band Chthonic added:

“Freedom to create is the fundamental to artist’s dignity as freedom of speech is the fundamental to human rights for all human beings. We should fight for those who are denied these privileges in other parts of the world so that they will be entitled to these rights one day.”
