Upstate NY's Surmiser are a grunge, hard rock and post punk marriage who play every note with the conviction of lifers who have long since given up the notion of turning back. The band is an excellent power trio and have just released their buzzed about latest effort Hold The Static. Songs about depression, addiction and self assessment pair with focused but inspired soul eruptions that take you on a journey through a wide range of emotions. Surmiser are very much worth checking out, constantly working on ways to expand their impact and body of songs to mirror their experiences into something representative to their values in sonic form.

Adrenaline Mob/Transatlantic drummer and former Dream Theater/Avenged Sevenfold drummer Mike Portnoy will be sitting in for Bobby Jarzombek of Fates Warning on April 14th for their show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Fates Warning has made it clear that this is a one time fill in and Bobby Jarzombek will remain their drummer and will be playing on their upcoming European tour and album. The band released the following statement:
“We’re pleased and excited to announce that Mike Portnoy will be our special guest drummer for our April 14th show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. We had a great time playing with Mike back in 2005 at the Headway festival in Holland and we’re happy that he’s able to help us out again. We’d also like to make it clear that Bobby Jarzombek is still the drummer for Fates and will be with us for our European shows in March as well as on the new record we’re currently working on. Unfortunately, Bobby committed to another gig on the same day (ironically, in the same city) before this show was planned.”
