Album Review: Unleashed – “Odalheim”

Posted by Allred on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 9:41 PM (PST)

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages; MetalRiot.com, in association with face ripping, neck snapping, ear busting, and an overall ass kicking, bring to you, the undisputed old school Swedish death metal champions of the world, UNLEASHED!

A bit much? Maybe, but let’s face it, Entombed has been hit or miss for years now, the mighty Dismember packed their bags and called it quits, and Grave, well Grave has been holding it down pretty good the last decade, but not good enough to beseech the Viking death metal battalion that is Unleashed.

Odalheim, Unleashed’s eleventh studio album, finds ringleader, Johnny Hedlund and the boys, doing pretty much what they’ve always done since the release of their first album back in 1991. Unfortunately, too many metal heads will dismiss Odalheim as simply being the same old stuff. It’s unfortunate, because those who’ll dismiss it will surely be missing out on a damn good and enjoyable album.

Check out what you’re missing here.

Frontman/bassist Johnny Hedlund had this to say about the song:

“After years of struggle and toil against the armies of White Christ, the Midgard Warriors went across the open sea to gather the battalions there, and to build an army big enough to fight in the final stand,” rails lead hornblower Johnny Hedlund. “At the end of the (Vinland) North American journey, the Midgard Warriors and their growing armies traveled through the Sierra Madre and into Central America to meet with the Toltecs, Olmecs, Aztecs and others. It seemed they had all joined forces to build a rebellion against White Christ. They were now known as the Maya Warriors. We joined for Blot and Celebrations to our common task and for life long freindship. We had now grown to be a very respectful army of warriors that set off to the European continent again…”

Odalheim will be the band’s eleventh studio album, and is set to be released late April 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Unleashed reveal artwork and track listing for upcoming album “Odalheim”

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 6:59 AM (PST)

Viking metal extraordinaires Unleashed have released the track listing nd artwork for their upcoming album Odalheim. Due out April 20, 2012 under Nuclear Blast Records, the album was recorded at Chrome Studios in Sweden with the help of Fredrik Folkare.

Bassist/vocalist Johnny Hedlund commented about the artwork:

“The artwork is made by Sebastian Ramstedt, just like our previous three albums. It shows the new world ‘Odalheim’ at the break of dawn at Birka shores, and just before the attack of White Christ. The concept of the album is taken from the book by the same name. A book I haven’t yet had the time to complete.”

For a larger picture of the artwork and the track listing click here.

Hedlund has stated about the album before:

“Anders (drums) asked me if this might be the fastest Unleashed album to date. I’m not sure, but it’s likely close anyhow.”
