Faster than you can say ‘Screw You, Mario Lopez’ there’s a new rager of a pro-trans track from the homies of CLITERATI ! One of the absolutely best punk bands in the world, Cliterati never let us down.

Reveals CLITERATI vocalist Ami Lawless of the track, “From my earliest memories until 3rd or 4th grade. I believed I was a boy although I was AFAB. My mother, who was undocumented from Mexico living in the USA would hit me and yell at me for saying I was a boy. I believe she didn’t want to draw attention to us. It took me years to figure myself out. After having top surgery a few years back, I finally become comfortable in my own skin, for the first time in my life. I identify as trans non-binary/emby/two-spirit and my pronouns are they/them. I have quite a few friends who identify this way as well. This song is for all the kids who are still figuring themselves out… we see you and are here for you. Let your light shine.”

Hi, Ami! Sending you all the love. I also use They/Them and sometimes he, but didn’t know you did until recently. So sorry if ever misgendered. You rule and so does your band! This song reminded me of Poison Idea meets Nausea and of course Cliterati because…they are themselves. Haha. Killer tune!!

Greetings, y’all. Wanted to get this Fourth of July week of hellish fireworks and bloated nationalistic selectivism off to a better bang with some activism against this hateful Trump regime. I am just back from an ICE/Concentration Camp protest outside Democrat Antonio Delgado’s office in Kingston, NY where many gathered to protest Dems caving on giving funding to Trump’s manufactured border crisis. There was a diverse and passionate crowd including one Jewish man who spoke in horror of having any kind of horrible camps still on this planet. I interviewed a Jamaican immigrant who was a landlady now and she described the racism she had to overcome and a lot of positive energy was put out into my community in the face of this horror show today. I am thankful to have a month and a half sober again, to be back doing activism more and encouraged by my community and support to be back on low dose estrogen , living my truths and experience other amazing people around me who care about trying to heal the world.

There is a lot of negativity in the metal and rock scene and entertainment in general. Ronnie Radke the walking Wikipedia landmine this week was making very transphobic sounding tweets then trying to backpedal through retweets that clunkily seem like he is trying in bad faith to “learn” while simultaneously disavowing the gender spectrum. I tweeted to Brett from Epitaph that maybe it was time to drop their worst signing ever Falling In Reverse but I am sad to say that the dude from Bad friggin’ Religion, one of my all time favorite bands, was too busy retweeting Ricky Gervais both sides schticking about “leftist extremists” being “bad as well” and thus helping do “Antifa is bad” propaganda layup assistance to Andy Ngo grifter fash supporting false equivalency types. Ughh. Jasta also tweeted in support of Louis CK this week and Corey Taylor liked it, which got crickets. Oh, and fucking Varg has a twitter where he is pretending to be god damned…I can’t…Gandalf The (cough) White. FML. And I thought it was a bad time to be a Swiftie this week!

THANK FUCKING NO GOD then that the excellent souls of Black Flags Over Brooklyn and Bandcamp have put out a sick as fuck hardcore, metal and weirdo RIFFS FOR REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE comp to help inspire morale and fight tyranny as well as fight back for abortion rights for people who can get abortions (which includes trans men, by the way). The comp features some of my favorite acts including my friends in Fucked and Bound (covering Sonic Youth, ahhh!!) , Cliterati, my fave Hether Fortune, Redbait and many more. Emma Ruth Rundle, Terminal fucking Nation, Ithaca, Jucifer, False, Woe, Vile Creature, Twilight Fauna, Immortal Bird, Svalbard, Twin Temple, Racetraitor, mighty Underdark…the list of radness goes on and on. HELP SUPPORT and raise funds for abortion rights! Let’s do this!

This comp is a tremendous example of good and positive energy and momentum in the scene and I hope it keeps growing so everything can get better and we can all treat one another with respect for the sake of the future. Pick this up today and spread the word far and wide!

Thursday’s news, space jammers. First order of business,  a hearty don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out to “EPA Administrator” aka corrupt scum Scott Pruitt. The GOP will forever own the stain of climate denial and corrupt profiteering from endangering humanity recklessly.

Secondly, Therese Okoumou, you are the embodying spirit of a more perfect union, the right to protest injustice and the hope for change to stop the destruction of any semblance of American dignity before we can heal our deep trauma as a nation at ideological war between the forces of Good and the hideous gaslighting White Supremacists who revise history and quake in terror of progressive change. Thank you so much, true American hero. You have more bravery and dignity than the entire GOP and all their supporters in your pinky.

The below image, reshared by Bernice King, is as iconic an American image as I have ever seen in my 40 years.

I couldn’t in good faith just write about (even inspiring or revolutionary) music today without acknowledging the power of this moment. Now, let me direct you to some metal news to stir your spirits.

The new Deafheaven album can be streamed at NPR today! Ordinary Corrupt Human Love is available to curious ears in full RIGHT HERE. I have been crazy busy and so have not heard it yet myself but am gonna put it on in the background as I write this. The intro of “You Without End” that kicks things off has some somber but kind of warm piano and some post-rock vibes before a spoken sample thing and I am digging this mellow expansive beginning so far. It’s nice to be truthful and absorb stuff at your own pace rather than feel like you have to cram an experience in just to get a review shoved out. But anyway, I’m really looking forward to hearing how these guys have evolved as they have grown on me with time. So far I have to say already that this tune is kind of the coolest thing I have heard from them yet and is straddling some more interesting and colorful lines for my tastes.

True punks Cliterati have a new EP called Nuked At Birth you can savor over at Cvlt Nation at present! One of the most uncompromising, fun and important bands in 2018’s underground, Cliterati are miles above most of the pack in terms of importance, relevance and perhaps most importantly…anthemic fucking music!

The latest from the Oregon-grown hardcore punk collective featuring Poison Idea, Voetsek, and Murderess alumni –  this EP serves as a precursor to the band’s split with Violation Wound, set for release via Tankcrimes later this month, and includes one original track as well as the band’s scathing renditions of L7’s “Fast & Frightening” and Cro-Mags’ “Hard Times.” Holy tofurkin’ awesome, batgirl!

Comments CLITERATI screamer, Ami Lawless, “We’re stoked on this free EP with the title track also being the name of our upcoming summer tour. We also have a new Nuked At Birth shirt design to complete the trifecta! The other two tracks are covers that we sometimes do live. This EP was all done in one day. We just decided to have a fun recording/mixing/mastering session, no pressure, and give it to the people who’ve been supporting our band since the demo. The lyrics to ‘Nuked At Birth’ are loosely based on the book Geek Love. Go read it!”

Ami, I used to have a copy of Geek Love and regret I never finished reading it. Thanks for reminding me! The first half was pretty good and someone stole it a long ass time ago, hahaha.

Hear Nuked At Birth, courtesy of Cvlt Nation, at THIS LOCATION.

Download the EP for the cool price of FREE at the official CLITERATI Bandcamp page HERE.

Cast The Stone

American death/black metallers CAST THE STONE and David Hall (Uneasy Sleeper, PortalThe Melvins) unleash a video for their cover of Indfestdead’s (Dan SwanöJesusatan”. The track appears on the band’s forthcoming six-track EP “Empyrean Atrophy”, due for release on August 31st via Agonia Records.

This shit fuckin’ rocks and the David Hall (Portal, Melvins) video is really nuts and visually well done but prob needs a genuine serious warning if you are epileptic. Intense!

Watch List: Metal Riot top 15 up and coming acts for 2017

Posted by Metal Riot on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 4:07 PM (PST)

Succumb

Thought it would be cool today to compile a list for you of the best 15 bands we feel who are on the way up and are on the verge of or already doing incredible things for the metal, rock, industrial , punk or underground community in general. The criteria is that they can only have up to two albums out under the project name, thus some pretty important bands like, for example, Incendiary, Oathbreaker , Auroch, Yellow Eyes or Junius alas at this point have enough releases to not be considered as “new”.  This list is a matter of opinion based on bands we feel are making great work, big waves and/or changing things for the better! It also aims to cover a wide variety, so you will not find all fifteen as death metal bands because that would not be representative of the scene as a whole.

The list contains new faces, old friends in very new projects and more. The fact that most of the choices ended up American bands was not intentional, just who is exciting us the most right now. It is all about great music and people who don’t have that many albums under their belt yet for the amount of buzz they are getting for the band (haha, Gridfailure would be on here but Dave already is cranking out releases by the boatload, for example) as well as the power of their accomplishments.

Anyhow, with no further ado, let’s focus on some positive movers and shakers here in the now frontier.

More BELOW.

Cliterati kick off West Coast Tour

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10:49 AM (PST)

We wanna take an extra moment out of our busy schedules thinking about death metal as we vainly deny the onset of adulthood here to shout out crust punk moshtastic monarchs of the moment Cliterati here as they kick off their new West Coast tour. Ami Lawless fuckin’ rules and this band is one of the best. They already feel like a real, cohesive unit in a short amount of time. That’s what happens when you combine good people with a real punk and metal pedigree/actually caring about what you’re doing. So much more refreshing than the 800th million stale over processed tech death/deathcore promo or interchangeable wankers.

A kick ass recent interview we did with Cliterati was one of the ones that sadly was murdered when we suffered a site malware attack that ended up in us losing about a year of content here…and it was  irreplaceable due to the original recording being gone and me not having backed it up well enough like a fucking asshole. Much chagrin and sorrow…BUT, we can tell you to check the shit out of this tour and become ten times cooler in the process just for being there! The band have a lot in store working with beloved and true af label Tank Crimes, so stay alert!

Tour dates below.
