After a number of years absence that left fans wondering if we would ever hear Sister Sin again, the Swedish rockers have returned to pump us up with blazing rock n roll glory. The band performed a Raw & Mean From Rehearsal live stream over this past weekend and it was epic to hear their underground, fiery anthems again. Liv Sin has stayed busy with her Burning Sermons album and solo band but many people have also missed the rowdy and bar room brawl ready Sister Sin songs. It was killer to hear “24/7” kick off the set (about an hour into the video below) and feel the adrenaline build! Will more be forthcoming? I don’t know, but this was one of the best things to happen yet in 2020 for rock fans.

Sometimes we get to write about fun stuff like how good the new Seremonia album is (fucking amazing) or what is our favorite Megadeth or Gojira era. Other times we have a platform to help share some very important perspectives or stories and it is important to do so. The feminist website #theflounce published a piece I wrote after talking to ex-Enabler bassist Amanda P. Daniels, who just days ago told the world she had been assaulted and abused while in the band and in a relationship with Jeff Lohrber.

Metal scribe Kim Kelly spoke at length to Amanda about her ordeal in full and that link is also embedded in my piece, but the main point of my article is that no one, regardless of gender or that some people make false accusations or “cry wolf”, should have to feel afraid to speak up when they feel or know they have been wronged.

Some words from Otep Shamaya, Liv Jagrell of Sister Sin, Yasmine Kittles of mighty Tearist (aka just about my favorite person in the world right now besides my Mom), indie legend Kelley Deal of The Breeders and R. Ring plus Elan from my duo #bitchwhip offer words of support to show there is precedent to speak up. We also include three songs from The Gits, Karyn Crisis’ old band Crisis and War on Women to remind that there are people who care and will listen.

Hot Summer Nights with Sister Sin

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 7:43 PM (PST)

11774236_10203485932063483_1549836880_n Sister Sin have more than enough fire in their bark to silence critics. While anyone who knocks the Swedish band’s surefire smack to the head of adrenaline charged rock n roll is surely a nincompoop, the few who are that dumb are really missing out. No matter, the true believers are rocking the hell out as hard as we can!

I think this band is right at the top when it comes to straight up classic heavy metal/hard rock that aint afraid to scrap. Recent bad ass fifth album Black Lotus features the most power packed lip biting gut punchers from the band yet, “Chaos Royale” and “Au Revoir” dripping pure heavy metal splendor… blood, guts, sweat and tears.

I caught the band on an off night from Mayhem Fest and watched them slam it hard to a small Poughkeepsie club (aka The Loft). It was my second time seeing the band and they retain the high octane power I remembered. “Desert Queen” was everything you’d want in a hard rock, classic metal influenced jammer live, while “Fight Song” from Now and Forever and “On Parole” and especially early underground hit “Outrage” showed the band’s ongoing quality.

Black Lotus is certainly the finest hour to date for addictive hard rock band Sister Sin. The Swedes deliver on the promise of earlier records with a full on winner through and through. When people questioned this band’s signing by Victory Records, I knew they were missing the bigger picture. While new song “Desert Queen” doesn’t have the full on attack and most amazing chorus ever like “Chaos Royale”, Liv Jagrell and the band still deliver a classic heavy metal story  style song. I will admit I read it first as “Dessert Queen” and had face blush inducing fantasies of Liv in a Dairy Queen outfit pouring hot chocolate syrup on a Midnight Truffle Blizzard treat, but this video of the band, some witchy imagery and the impassive sands of a desert will do, I guess.

Sister Sin are in it to win it and the conviction of the band is evident in every hard hitting note and in Liv’s sultry and empowered snarl.

“We took a bit of inspiration from ancient times and aimed for a darker feeling in this video”, explains guitarist Jimmy Hiltula.  “Since the song has a dark feel to it, yet is very melodic, we wanted to capture that along with having the Desert Queen character in it.  Also, we wanted to take some focus off the band and give more room for Liv portraying this gypsy kind of woman, reading cards and being enigmatic”.  Hiltula continues on the filming, “The desert shots were absolutely crucial for the whole video and 11 Frames (producer) did an awesome job with these beautiful pictures.  We couldn’t be more excited about this video!  We have all met the Desert Queen in our lives (or eventually will), the mystery lies beyond.”

It’s no secret we love Sister Sin around here (the band was one of our first band spotlight’s for some time). Sister Sin are so good live and were a super inspired signing for Victory Records a few years back. Black Lotus is their dark and soulful new jammer and the powerful music video for the first single “Chaos Royale” is being shown exclusively on Seriously, this song jams so hard and Liv and the boys give it their all. This chorus is super memorable and exciting.

Hard Rock Fall for the Fallen

Hard Rock is here to stay. Regardless of the ebb and flow of record sales or the medium the music is conveyed in, Hard Rock will never truly die. It is, essentially, immortal. The essence of rock spans beyond time with a multidimensional lightning soul blast featuring the cartoon heads of all your favorite bands. So don’t freak out…But support bands and buy shit!

I wont rest until  everyone wants Life Of Agony to make a new album as much as I do. Meanwhile, we are also gonna focus on a few recent or pending Fall hard rock releases you need on your radar, road warriors. On the heavy side there is Orange Goblin’s Back From The Abyss, Monster Magnet’s Milking The Stars re-imagining record, Nashville Pussy’s Up The Dosage, HellYeah’s critic pounding Blood For Blood or Castle’s recent Under Siege to highly recommend but elsewise, what rocks?

Interview: Sister Sin – Now and Forever

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 7:17 AM (PST)

Sweden’s top notch heavy metal champions Sister Sin have finally released their much desired new album, the aptly titled NOW AND FOREVER (Victory). It is a statement of purpose firmly etching the band into metal’s pantheon, their best record yet! The early stirrings of talent shown on their previous releases (best showcased on the excellent 2010 release TRUE SOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND) bear fruit here and show the band in their finest form to date.

When you hear a real, hard working and true band make a mark, it is a cool feeling. Ever hear “Rapid Fire” by Judas Priest and felt amazed at how it influenced so many? Or recently I saw a Sons Of Anarchy episode that featured Social Distortion’s “Machine Gun Blues” and thought about how cool it was that a legit punk band was featured on a hit series instead of some crap. Well, NOW AND FOREVER will give you a similar feeling that genuine bands still can matter.

Sister Sin aren’t always the most cerebral or likewise depressed band, but they DO want you to feel good and remember why Rock N’ Roll can always bring people together. This is bad ass stuff that still retains grit and street cred even as the band gain ground. Their first week showed Sister Sin at #36 Top New Artist, with the Cameron Webb mixed LP instantly waking people up. Tour dates with Doro Pesch and a will to bring the metal to the people show that Sister Sin have longevity in their sights.

Sweden’s Sister Sin bring a classic, heavy metal sound into the 21st century! This powerful act, fronted by show stopper Liv Jagrell, have been winning over fans with hard touring and solid songwriting. Liv is a big fan of big energy power rock like Twisted Sister. Her gritty yet melodic voice over the ballsy hard rock riffs make Sister Sin pure metal fun. They’ve made waves in America touring with Otep and Blackguard and have upcoming dates with the legendary Doro Pesch. New album Now and Forever better be blowing up your speakers real soon!
